For the D850 users only. What makes this camera better for what you shoot?
What lens do you prefer and why?
I am thinking of supplementing my d500. I shoot mostly city, people, landscapes and waterfalls and deep woods.
I know that i f I add this camera I am buying new F2.8 glass

My wife is a florist so I shoot her work a lot. I shoot music when I get the chance. Mostly I shoot activists - protests, marches, and rallies. I love the 850's dynamic range and the ability of the camera to shoot well in challenging lighting. I use either the Tamron 24-70 2.8 if I'm going to be inside and I carry a 750 with a70-200 2.8 for range. If I'm going to be mostly outside and I only want to carry one camera, I take the 850 with a Nikon 24-120 f4.

For those of you who carry two cameras, are both the same model or do you have two different models and why for either answer?

I usually carry a D750 with a 24-70 2.8 and an D850 with 70-200 2.8. It gives me a good 'ready for anything' approach for the kind of shooting I like to do.

With majority of R&D money for all brands going into mirrorless, I would expand your brand set and look into the mirrorless.

I agree. I love my Nikons but Sony seems to be the biggest innovator, especially in mirrorless. If I was starting out, I might go that way.

It's not every single day, but I shoot social justice events; sit-ins, die-ins, marches, demonstrations, civil disobedience - that sort of thing. I love the people and the events often unfold in unexpected ways.

I have a Nikon D750 and a Pentax K3. I'm trading the D750 in for a D850 but I'm holding on to the K3. I like the K3 for the same reason so many people like mirrorless. It's not quite as small as a mirrorless but it is small and light enough to make it a worthwhile option to the Nikons if I expect to be lugging a camera all day or if I'm traveling light.

Canon 5D Mark IV. Love everything about my D750 except the loud shutter noise. I often shoot close to people who are speaking or video cams recording people who are speaking. The shutter doesn't just snap, it claps.

Love mine. I did have to have the shutterbox replaced long before I should have, but Nikon did that free of charge.

I used to think that it was ONLY Aunt Millie who would have her eyes closed during the group portraits. Once I had the capability and it was economically feasible with my DSLR, with 4 or 5 exposures to examine, eye blinking was way more widespread than I thought. Aunt Millie, Aunt Susie and Granma Sophie ALL blinked in one or the other of the exposures. So having 5 shots gave me a good chance to have ONE, maybe not the overall best, but a usable photograph that didn't embarrass my favorite sources for cookies and pie!

My wife is Queen of the blink. I could understand if I used flash a lot, but I don't unless I absolutely have to. Still, I have to take three shots to get to get one with her eyes open.

I think it depends on what kind of photography you do. I shoot a lot at of protests and demonstrations where things move pretty quickly and conditions change continuously. You're working in crowds. You're moving from outside to inside. Speakers are animated and passionate. It feels like panning for gold trying to catch speakers on the right side of that line between looking passionate and looking crazy. The crowd, too, is part of the story and crowd shots can be challenging. Even without shooting in continuous mode (which I seldom do), it's nothing for me to squeeze off a thousand images in a day. It takes a lot of time, but they say shoot what you love.

I love my Nikon D750. I considered turning to Canon's 80D for a back-up because I heard that Canons were quieter and I shoot a lot in environments where other people are trying to listen. But when I compared it to the D7200, the 80D just isn't as sharp. I don't want to be a distraction, but I want the shot. I'll get the D7200.
