I think most people have missed the point that in journalism there is to be no photoshopping. Do it all you want for yourself, etc. but not if it is to be published in newspapers etc. We want that level of integrity.

Just curious what everyones thoughts on joining Kelby One. Do you get a lot out of it and is it worth the money?

I actually won my first version of Photoshop (CS3) at a Mac users group in Monroe, MI. So grateful because being an amateur I never would have spent the money. That was ages ago, and I've used it ever since. I just joined K1 and started going through their beginner course and could not believe the tips I picked up! So far it has been worth the money.

I have the RP and also a Canon G -15. I was thinking of replacing the G-15 with a G-9x II, but the G-9 has been impossible to find locally since I prefer to pay cash. So I was thinking that the iPhone 14 Pro could substitute for the Canon G. One problem is the lack of a viewfinder on the cellphone

I just turn up the brightness on my screen and I’ve never missed not having a viewfinder. I love my i-phone camera so much my poor husband is probably tired of hearing about it.

I was glad when the whole argument about whether it was ethical to add vibrancy to an image, if it was ok to go mirrorless … etc etc etc. finally went away because despite the various opinions, Adobe and everyone else doesn’t care and technology marches on. So being upset gets you no where. I developed black and white film and printed in a darkroom. Creative and fun.Removing an annoying stick at the touch of a button-also fun. Constant argument over whether one is more art than than other -less fun and won’t change a thing.

Stunning views in Hawaii. 3 years of planning hikes. Several months pay for accommodations. My 5d mark iii and 150-600 lens for birding ended up in the hotel room because hiking with it in the heat was miserable. Carried my 7d with my kit 24-200 mm canon lens. Broke my heart but at least I didn’t die of heat stroke. I am super grateful I invested in my iphone 14. I hate to give up my gear and really sad that I probably won’t get anything for it selling it on a flooded market

Beautiful! Makes me more sad that it’s so expensive to visit that we gave up until we can camp there. I love it that you made them black and white.

I have never used the exposure compensation dial on any of my cameras. If I need more or less light I change the aperture, shutter or ISO.

What I would like to find out from all of you is why you use the dial as opposed to just changing the aperture, shutter or ISO?

One of the "cons" I have thought of is that if you forget to set it back to zero then your next photo shoot will not be properly exposed.

Please share your thoughts, pro and con, about using the dial over my usual method. Your answers may show me that I'm missing out on a useful "tool" for my photography or it just may confirm my preferred method.

Thank so much for sharing your experience!!

When taking photos of birds conditions can change in a heartbeat. Against green leaves I don't need to change the exposure. Against a bright gray sky I might need 3 stops to keep a bird from being a dark blob, and I need to change it in a second. In Northwest OH we have an amazing number of warblers flitting around and you better be fast if you are going to get a photo. I love exposure compensation.

Even when I’m carrying another camera I often use mine. It’s just a different camera. Better for some things and not others.

I have to laugh at this. I’ll take forever to fiddle around with my DLSR to take a photo when traveling and then just to be sure I captured it well, snap a pic with my phone, “for insurance”. High contrast-iphone wins in a split second.

iPhones made instant photographers out of very lazy people.

Or allow arthritic photographers to continue to look at everything as light, and color, framing, movement and perspective, compose and capture. I can barely lift my 5Dmark3 and 150-600 mm lens let alone hike over 4 miles with it. Not because I’m lazy.
I’m grateful for the question. I’ve been screen-shotting your replies and sending them to my husband. I think I might just have to spring for a new toy!

One incident does not make an issue.

If many folks report a single issue, there is something to address. Anything else is a joke, sorry.

You can try to pass for one who knows what he is talking about'. It just does not wash.

I have been an early adopter of Adobe and never had a single issue other than those I created by not paying attention.

This arrogant response is exactly why I’ve rarely ever asked a question on this site. I really would like to find a site where you don’t have to worry about someone trying to elevate themselves by trying to make someone else look stupid. Maybe I need to start one-where I’d have the power to send someone like you packing. You were obviously not taught that if you don’t have something nice to say-shut up!!

Merlin is a great app, and it's free. You can even upload or take a picture and it will tell you what it is. Really fun to use the sound ID button too.

it was so nice of it to pose for me :) I've tried to re-create this photo in some form and I've never been this lucky again.

I have a sunset where all you see is sky and water. It extremely colorful and a beautiful print. There is no beach or anything else.
I think I should put it under places but since it's highly photoshopped and all there is is sky and water I'm not sure.
Probably sounds like a stupid question but I decided to ask you anyway! I'm sick of going back and forth.

Choices:

Places (landscapes, vistas and locations are the main subject)
Open (photographs that cannot be categorized in any other category, e.g. still life, abstracts, food, products, etc.)

Edit: Thank you for the responses. I'll stick to places.
