I rented both for about $15 and tried them out. My main reason for the lens was low light. In the end, I got the 35mm on my D7200 because it fit more situations than the 50mm. Now find myself using it more than I thought.

I have the 35mm 1.8 ED lens and it works great for my usage on a D7200 and D5100. I rented both a 35mm and 50mm to see which lens better suited my needs and the 35 won out because of the angle of view. I use it for street and grandkids photos. Have not taken it out for landscape but I am sure it will work well. I also have the 85mm micro which is slower but allows for some great macro shooting and is useful for street also. Drawback is it is DX lens.

Billy, Great shot! Reminds me of Vietnam many many years ago.

What do you have you "Manual Movie Settings: set to? What mode are you shooting in?

l can not find any setting that has "Manual Movie" associated with it. What menu item is that in?

I was shooting in Aperture priority.

Thanks both of you. I looks like I will just use Auto for my casual videos.

I am trying to learn more about taking videos with my D7200. I rarely use it for videos and when I did the other night at my granddaughter’s Christmas program I struggled with setting the f - stop. On my D5100 I can change the f- stop while I am recording but with the D7200 it appears you can only set the f- stop after you stop recording , switch the “movie” selector back to the “camera” setting, set the f-stop and then set everything back to record.
I have read the manual and David Busch’s book and neither mention that you have to stop recording and switch before changing the f- stop.

Can someone help? Do I have something set up wrong?
Thanks in advance

Yes, that's the way I do it. Even on my inexpensive Epson multifunction printer I can save a preset. I just go into my settings before I print and then set the paper size, quality of print, orientation etc., then go to the first tab and create an name my preset. Then next time I print I just choose that preset and it's ready to go. On my more expensive Canon printer, I so the same thing but instead of creating a preset, I just choose a check box that tells it to save those settings for the next time I print. The next time I print it's ready to go. It's always wise to give them a quick check if it's been a while since printing.

Thanks, I should have looked around more! That helps speed the process along.

I'm not sure if it does or not, but look for a way to create a "preset". Or, go to the help menu in PSE and lookup "preset". I know that Lightroom does that but couldn't say for sure if PSE does.

I just looked under preset and nothing seem to show up for PSE printing.

Thanks

Is there any way to set your own default print settings in PSE 13? Every time I go to print from a restart of the program I have to select my paper size, paper quality, print quality and borderless.

I have had many versions of PSE and they have all acted the same.

So, I just returned from a trip to Sedona. Did a lot of hiking and carried my D750 with a Nikon 24-70. Images came out great but I will never carry this combo for hiking again.....just too large and heavy. I also have a D7100 and D5300. I will probably carry the 5300 next time but I was looking for lens recommendations. I have a 18-55 on it right now. Was thinking about a 16-85 but I have no experience with it. Will obviously be used mostly for scenics. Thoughts?

Consider Nikon's 18-140. It is not the sharpest lens but certainly does a good job on most photo's. Because of its construction it is not heavy but seem to be durable enough.

I have plenty of FX glass for the D800 and D810. However my wife wants to start shooting pictures on her own... and wants a lighter set up. She has decided on the the D5500 with 18-140 lens. This Camera fits her hands better and is half the weight ( I tried to get her to use the D800... no luck!!)
How successful will my FX glass be on the D5500?

If the lens has Af-S in the description it is Ok for the 5500. If no AF-S then she will have to focus manually.

I have the Nikon 18-300 3.5-5.6 (the older and better version) and it has been a serviceable lens. I used it on my d5100 and took lots of nice pictures on a trip through Germany. As MT Shooter says, it is soft at the long end, and as with any lens with this much range, there are image quality tradeoffs. However, if you want one lens to carry around, it is a good one that you will enjoy using.

I agree with Nukepr. Have the "old" Nikon 18-300 originally on my 5100 now on my D7200. Rarely do I need to use something else.

My favorite spot on earth. Sunrise-Sunset or any time there is none better. Good photo, would be nice to see some of the foreground but just knowing where it came from OK by me.
