I had my PC replaced with a new one having more speed, memory and storage. In the process, my IT guy replaced my LR CC with LrC and the differences are significant. Two examples of the multitude of changes that befuddle me are:
1. The layout of the editing tools in Develop mode, including the absence of all the colors except Red, Green and Blue. What happened to the others? Also, there are color wheels in LrC the function of which is unknown to me. I've tried playing around with them but haven't figured them out.
2. I shoot RAW and use Picasa in conjunction with LR. Previously with LR CC, when I exported it was seen by Picasa as a full size 20-25MB file. If I wanted a smaller file, I used the Image function in Ps (at the top of the screen) for that purpose. Now, when I export, Picasa sees immediately sees a dramatically smaller file, about 3MB, even though I do not change the file size before exporting. What's up with that?

Can my IT guy deep six the LrC and pull the LR CC out of my old PC (which is now stored as a hot spare in my basement) and install it in my new tower?

Thanks, Hogs.

Now that you have more powerful computer I would go with LRc and get the more powerful set of functions and not have to play with the cloud. You may have to watch a few videos to see the differences but well worth the effort. Instead of the Yugo you have the Audi - lots more things on the dash to to ease your experience.

I don't know if the catalogs are compatible between the two programs, I'll guess not.
You'll probably have to build a new catalog in Elements.
But your pictures themselves do not exist IN THE CATALOG.
They exist in directories on your drive where you put them.
The catalog is simply a <database> LIST of your images that editors use.
The cataloger goes and makes a list of what files are in what directory on the drive.

All true but the old edits if valuable may lost as they are in the LR catalog or sidecar .xmp file. Does elements support xmp files? If not your edits will be lost.

This issue has to do with all previous versions of Lightroom including the current version on Windows 10 running on a Dell Laptop I7 8 GB ram 2 TB SSD (I know the laptop is underpowered but I can't afford a newer one yet) . I have 15 images shot on a tripod with 1/3 to 1/2 overlap. The preview works just fine but I get a merge error in the main processing. This doesn't happen all of the time but about 2% of the time. Sometimes I can fix the problem by first making a pano out of images 1 thru 9 and then a second pano of images 7 thru 15 then merging the 2 panos into a single image. Sometimes that doesn't work either but it always works in the preview. I guess the question would be why it works great in the preview and then fails in the main processing? Has anyone else encountered this issue and if so is there a reason it happens?

Underpower is likely. This usually means memory. I would use the Win task manger to see what else is running on your machine that is chewing up memory and stop them. Many apps when installed like to leave a piece of it running at boot time so when you decide to actually use the app, it cranks up quickly. Too many of those simply tie up memory. I'd reboot and see what comes up. I think the task manager tells you the memory in use. This is stopgap not a solution.

I generally go as small as possible.
Same for sending to my wife to post on her FB page.

If you want people to appreciate your photo especially on FB 2048. any larger will get compressed. Same size for here but also check the box to send the original and we get to see and appreciate it to the nth degree.

I do my editing in Neo, but after editing I hit apply but it does not show up in LRC. Any suggestions?

Apply simply makes the adjustment to the photo in Neo. You need to "exit" Neo to get the photo back to LR.

I have contacted Skylum support but they were of no help. I can export from LRC to Luminar Neo, but when I want to export back, I do not see the export in LRC or on my hard drive. Was wondering if anyone had the same problem and how they fixed it? Thank you in advance

Not sure the term export is correct. When in LR you do an "edit in" Neo(I'm assuming neo can run from LR) and when you are done in Neo(exit/save/whatever) it returns back to LR. Export is kind of reserved for pulling your photos out of LR for printing or posting...

With photo certification being a big deal to show the history and additions or modifications of a photo to fight AI in the news one wonders.
This is just digital information so how many hours will it take to get software to totally defeat digital certification? And make the certificate itself suspect.

Same issue in sports with enhancement drugs. You may not get caught today but sometime down the road, boom, and then you get labeled/suspended/ostracized/etc. Each person has a choice, live for today's gratification, or a little less and never have to look over your shoulder.

I get updates with minor improvements from Luminar every couple of weeks, and they keep introducing new features - at extra cost. As much as I'd like the "Gen" capabilities, I'm not going to subscribe. I'm using Luminar all the time now, and I find it very effective and easy to use.

LR/PS for $10 a month is still best bang for the buck! :) :) It fixes and new function keeps coming at no additional cost. The new gen replacement tool is unbelievable! You can't take your money with you!

My ancient Dell desktop has had it and I am going to buy a new Dell desktop. Looking for advice on how to transfer everything but do not want a method that requires an advanced degree in computer expertese. I do not have vast amounts of images or data to transfer but I don't want to lose any of it.. I am wondering if I could use flash drives to transfer the images and data. Also, it appears Dell no longer includes optical drives in their desktops so, as I use that drive a lot, I need one and am open to suggestions as to which make to buy. Any advice based on personal experience will be most welcome.

I bought my new computer from my local computer store. He moved all my data for me less the Program products that had to be reinstalled. My biggest challenge was the change from win 10 to 11. :) Sure I paid a few more bucks for the laptop but it came with a bow and ready to rock. Ask where you are buying it, do they offer that service and reduce your anxiety.

Have any of you set up Nikon's Wireless Transmitter Utility? I saw a demo on YouTube last night. There seem to be a dozen or more steps to get it running, but then the camera sends images right to your computer.

How much battery power does it use and how fast/slow to send? I can see using for a few shots but not beyond that.

Why would you doubt it? Each of the priority settings have their place and do a very good job just as manual has it's place. Hopefully not hidden in this question is the age old snobism that only real photographers use manual?

I am booked for a photography trip to Uganda in February. Traveled extensively on wildlife trips before Covid using Canon and Fuji systems. Have enough pictures and sold most equipment in intervening time except rangefinder Fuji w/ kit lens and RF100-400 lens that I'm not impressed with in conjuncton with rented Canon bodies. What to do for this trip??? (P.S. Just turned 78 so learning acumen a tad restricted. Don't have a smart phone and wouldn't be happy with Sony RX10 1V.)

Rent Canon R8 or R6 (again). Purchase cheap Oly model and lenses or OMD1iii and get back into that fun system.
Purchase Fuji XT4 or 5 and rent tele lenses for trip. (Had Fuji XT2). Consider older DSLR models?

Any suggestions welcome.

I have friend that uses the RX10 and sells a lot of his stuff. The ZEISS lens is excellent and the weight so much better then even the mirrorless, We are all the same age. I'm still lugging the R5 with a 100-500mm looking to go lighter. Just some food for thought from a cross the river neighbor.

In most camera reviews these days, the reviewer mentions the grip that the camera has - you know, that bulge that's provided for those who are right-handed. I see how the grip is handy, but it's a relatively new feature. I've had Nikons and other brands of film cameras that had no grip at all. I don't recall reviews saying that they were difficult to hold, and I never dropped a camera because it was "bulge-less."

Maybe someone can find the first camera that had the grip/bulge, but my thumb and fingers are able to hold onto most things without enhancements. I suspect part of the reason for the grip is to provide the manufacturer with room for internal components. The "grip" is an accidental bonus.

Just how new, I had one for an old canon AE1 film camera if I remember correctly. I don't have one on my newest, as without, I have a firm hold. I have held other brands witch left the grip wanting. Today the grip also comes with additional battery power which can be very necessary for many making the extra weight worth it.
