At Monument Valley, I have taken the guided tour and also did the drive myself. On the guided tour, you see a few places that you are not allowed to go by yourself, but it does not cover all the places that you can go on your own due to time constraints on the tour. I would suggest the drive yourself yourself plan, but both are good. Sights that you will see nowhere else.

Study up on the history of the Salton Sea. Then take a day and drive the circumference. Largest inland body of water in California, yet unknown by many people.

I have been to Antelope Canyon, and although it is dusty, it is not THAT dusty. My main suggestions would be, do NOT change your lens, and if you have an internally focusing zoom, that would be preferable, if the is a faster zoom and in the range that you need.
I had read all the horror stories concerning rude treatment by the guides and being herded through like cattle, etc. I found none of that to be true, at least with the guide that we had.

I would also suggest that when you leave the canyon, that, at the first opportunity, you give your camera a good cleaning on its exterior.

I have bought 2nd party batteries for both my Nikons and Olympus cameras. I probably have half a dozen of various brands. I basically see no difference between original and 2nd party except the cost.

As Jaymatt said, take a Jeep tour, but do your research. I got the wrong one and all that was involved was fast driving over bumpy roads.

Our politicians are wasting time, effort, and money trying to legislate a way to make Tide change the appearance of their laundry pods. These kids are eating detergent! They are the problem, and continuing to eat the detergent will solve that problem. They can't taste good, and they don't contain mild-altering chemicals, so why are they doing it? There's no reason, so changing the pods won't solve this problem, if it really is a problem. I've used Tide and Cascade pods for years, and I've never been tempted to eat them. If they change Tide, what about the nearly identical Cascade pods? How about bars of soap, shampoo, flea dip, rat poison?

Yes! Where does it end? At some point we need to stop trying to save people from themselves. Heaven forbid, that they learn to pay for and deal with their own actions.

I have been against the term "crop factor" from the very beginning. Why should everything be based on what proportion of 35mm it is? If that is going to be done for anything smaller, why not for anything bigger, such as medium format, 8x10 etc? I propose that if it is larger than 35mm, it should have a CRAP factor.

Jerry, I have 3 cars with heated seats. That is nice, but 2of the 3 have heated steering wheels. Given a choice, I think I’d give up the heated seats before the heated steering wheel. But here in Michigan, I’ll keep them both.

And what did you think of the new Star Wars?

First time questioner. I have Nikon D5200 and Nikon Speedlight SB-600. I'm a non-professional but like to take good pictures. My pictures are primarily for family and my wife's facebook page. My problem is that whenever I use the Speedlight flash (more power of course), the people come out over-exposed. When I take the same picture using the on-board flash, the exposure is normal. Both of the shots attached are in P-mode from about the same distance, using "Center weighted average" metering. Any idea why the Speedlight is constantly giving pictures/people that are over-exposed?

The SB600 flash head will swivel and also point up. If at all possible, try to bounce it off something white.

In ‘71-‘72 I was stationed at Phu Loi, north of Saigon with the 213th Avn. Co, flying Chinooks. In early ‘72 we were sent up to Da Nang to support the efforts going on up there. Some tough conditions there. I never left the base other than to fly a mission. I left there in May and DEROS’d and then got out of the Army. My first tour was in ‘68-69, with the 199th LIB as a helicopter pilot. In the dry season, it was HOT and dry. In the rainy season, it was one monsoon after another. Had some interesting flying experiences there. Don’t miss it and have no urge or desire to go back to see where I was.

I was at Camp Eagle just outside of Phu Bai. For about 4-5 months I was tasked with taking tail rotor hubs down to Da Nang to be inspected. About an hours flight along the coast in a Huey. I never went through the monsoon in the south, but in the north it was pretty miserable. As I recall, I got there early in February and didn’t see the sun until about April. Just constant rain, and damp cold. And now it is a vacation spot. Go figure.

I'm lucky we have 4 quality hardwood lumber suppliers close to home, they all stock curly maple and other nice furniture and tonewoods. Lotsa tropical and other exotics too.
Can't seem to find any walnut or cherry burl though.

Ever been to Charlotte, Mi. to the L.L. Johnson lumber store? I’m about 45 miles from there and make it on occasion. Nice selection of Woods.
