I'm going to southern CA (Torrence,Lagunia Woods, and Escondido) for six days at the end of April.
One night to a ball game in Anaheim, one day to a glass blowing class in Escondido.
Can I get some suggestions on places to go get some good photos in that area.
I'm traveling light,D5300 with Tamron 18-400,unless some one can tell me the necessity for a specific lens.
All suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

The San Diego Zoo's Safari Park in Escondido is a great place to go, if you enjoy taking pictures of wildlife. The Tamron 18-400 should serve you well for pictures at the Safari Park. You will also be close the beaches of Carlsbad, Encinitas and Oceanside. If you travel further south to San Diego proper: Mission Beach/Belmont Park, Old Town San Diego, The San Diego Maritime Museum with fascinating old sailing ships including the Star of India, the USS Midway Museum (Aircraft Carrier), Cabrillo Monument in Point Loma, Sunset Cliffs, Balboa Park (Botanical gardens with flowers, and diverse plant life, as well as museums), The San Diego Zoo, and so much more.

Laguna has some beautiful tide pools. La Jolla is pretty near and the beaches are gorgeous. Torrence is close to Redondo Beach and Manhatten Beach, nice strands and piers for sunset pics. Torrence has some bigger parks for birds and little critters.

I'm a So Cal native, born and raised here. Let me know what you like to shoot and I'll see what's around.

Thanks for the reply's.
I will be arriving in Torrence Wed. April 25,going to Laguina Woods on Fri.27th to meet friends and go to baseball game in Anaheim.
On Sat. I'll be driving to see family and blow glass in Escondido, staying over and departing in early aft.on a solo journey back towards Torrence.
I love to shoot,Birds in flight, flowers, waves, butterfly's, and I'm discovering a love of insects especially spiders.
There is my route, based in Torrence.

Study up on the history of the Salton Sea. Then take a day and drive the circumference. Largest inland body of water in California, yet unknown by many people.

Crystal Cove area is nice. It's on the shore between Laguna Beach and Newport. The beach is nice, and across US 1 are great hiking trails up through the hills that offer some great views and lots of wildlife in the scrubby vegetation.

I lived many years in So Cal, and agree with suggestions that have been made. If you don’t have time for the San Diego area, take a coastal route from Escondido back to Torrance for many scenic areas. For flowers check what is blooming at the Carlsbad flower fields. The San Diego Zoo’s Wild Animal Park is in Escondido....a great place for animal shots. Wine Country north of Escondido is great in Spring. Have fun!

I like the Crystal Cove suggestion. It sounds like you be traveling up Pacific Coast Highway (1). As you get above Huntington Beach check out Bolsa Chica wetlands, lot of bird opps. Sounds like fun

Make sure you check the stadium’s policy on cameras. Some have limits on interchangeable lens size for non-professional photographers.

Cool, would hate to have the same thing happen to you that happened to me a few years back at a UCONN football game. The security wizards at the gate considered my D7000 “professional” and they would not allow me to bring it in to the stadium. It was foolish to try to argue with them.

Have a great trip!

You can easily make an all day trip to Mission San Juan Capistrano on your way from Laguna Woods to Escondido. In Escondido, visit the San Diego Zoo Safari Park. Over 1,000 acres of beautiful creatures in natural habitats. Over in Torrance, you're near Manhattan Beach (where beach volleyball is king, queen, prince, and princess), the Battleship USS Iowa Museum, and, in Long Beach, the Queen Mary and the Aquarium of the Pacific. I have been to every large aquarium in the United States and a few in Canada. Aquarium of the Pacific is in my Top 10 yet it's only 20 years old. I go once a year.
