[quote=Gene51]This is one of the few times I agree with KR. He is absolutely correct. I've printed images from a Nikon 70S, a 6.1 mp camera, to 40x60, and sold them, with zero complaints about loss of resolution...

I have a Nikon D50 and have used it as my main camera until three months ago. Never printed larger than 8 x 12 and no one, even pro photographer friends, commented on a lack of sharpness or need more detail. Now that I have retired I want to print up to around 20 to 24 inches and I need more so I bought a 20 mp camera. It will do fine and will likely be the last camera I ever buy. Even this was likely over kill, but even the best of us can succumb to GAS!

Sam I was faced with this delima earlier this year but my canidates were slightly differnt: M1-MarK II vs XT1. I finally decided on the MII for a couple of reasons. First the MII IS system is more robust and at age 68 I suspect shake will be an issue in the near future. Secondly I settled on the Oly 12-100 and Panlica 100 - 400 lens. This way I am covered from 12 to 400 (24 to 800 if you figure the crop factor). The only limitation is the lack of the 2.8 apature and I don't have that much need for it. While the Fuji lens are very good, the Oly lens are, and especially the 12-100, excellant. I am also partial to zooms and Fuji is more limited in that area. Here are a couple of links with a fellow poster that helped me decide:

Hope this helps, and you realy can't go wrong either way, thier both fine systems.

I have never done a stupid thing in my entire life. Every thing I have ever done was perfect--- Those just may have been the 2 stupidest sentences I have ever written. I usually call stupid things that I have done -"Oh $hit" things.

And you realize of course it takes three " at-a- boys" to make up for one " oh $hit". At least that's what my wife claims.

Although TSA hasn't disclosed it's exact reasoning for a purposed ban. Two reasons are generally speculated: problem with lithium batteries spontaneously exploding and the terror threat from some using a computer and battery to ignite a bomb. Cameras are computers and they all have batteries. Apparently cell phones have to small a battery to be a concern, or perhaps their computing capacity is to low. Anyway, to be safe you'll need a very small camera and even then you'll run a risk. I am looking at several options among them the iPhone 7 Plus and the Galaxy 8+ both of which have amazing cameras for cell phones. But as of this minute there is no camera ban in effect exept for the original 10 middle eastern countries.

The island of Burano(sp?) near Venice Italy! But I cheat, I was there last year and shot that same area with the reverse view.

We were there last August. The Spanish Steps, the Trevi Fountain, the Pantheon, Piazza Navona (the streets around it are full of small cafes to grab lunch), Church of San Lugie dei Francesie ( full of Caravaggio master pieces) and Basilica di Santa Maria Sopra are all close together and easily within walking distance. Another grouping is the area with the Roman Ruins( Collossum, Circus Maximus, etc.) and very close by the center of the Italian government including Mussolini's famous balcony. The last area is Vatican City(you could spend the entire day in the Vatican Museum alone) but also worth while is the Trastevere district ( lots of place to eat dinner. Decide what you want to see before you go, get a good map and organize your day. I took my Nikon 55-300 and 17 -55 lens. I used the 17-55 more than 90% of the time. If you have it, take a very fast wide angle prime as most of the museums and churches will let you shoot, but not with a flash. Hope this helps and have fun.

Ask yourself this question: are there things I find myself unable to do with my d3400 that I could do if I upgraded? Be brutally honest with yourself. If the answer is no stick with what you have. If the answer is yes, will the 7100 or 7200 allow you to do those things? If no, again stick with what you have. Although my situation is different than yours, I started with an Olympus OM -1 SLR in the late '70s. Used that camera for over 20 years. The in 2005 I bought a D50 Nikon when they first came out. Still use it today. They both served their purpose well for my needs ans skill level. I am now retired and have on order a Olympus OM D-e Mi Mark II with the 12-100 lens. I want to spend more time with my photography than I could in the past and this camera will let me do things like print larger and better do BIF and grand kids sports. Next year I will add the Panasonic 100-400 and be set for life. The mistake most people make is over buying for what they need and will use, and as my recent purchase indicates, I am guilty as charged! Hope this helps.

1. You cut aunt Sally's head off cameras always move when index finger pushes the button.
2. You would miss the murder occurring just to the left of aunt Sally. As in the movie Blowup. It was seen in the dark room enlargement... and the plot went on.

Heck, 3. Composition on my 27" screen is more easily done than on the 3" camera screen that you can barley see in the sunlight.

Now if you are talking about general zooming in, that is not what I consider to be defined as "close crop, Tight crop."
NO x 2 br 1. You cut aunt Sally's head off cameras... (show quote)

Last year we went to Switzerland (wide vistas and you would think the occasional need for telephoto) and Italy ( Venice, Verona, Florence and Rome: read a lot of limited views and need for wide angle.) Took the DX 17-55 and 55-300 and after I returned realized I did over 90% of my shooting with the 17-55. Take the D610 and your lens and have a great time. But hey, that's just me.

Oh good greif! If everybody does it it's ok? And just who judges if the world is better off? Never mind, I probably know the answer to that!!
