For my computer ... the difference was speed.

LR 5.7 fast ... LR 6 sluggish.

Sounds like some preferences were changed during the upgrade? They both run the same file format.

Being in front of an octagon will give the soft wrap around lighting seen here, but it is a stretch to call it "backlit".

I'm not sure that I understand your problem. You received faulty goods, you requested a refund rather than a replacement, which you got. The person you were dealing with was probably administrative staff, not a member of technical staff. Indeed it would be unlikely that the company would have any technical staff as such, as they are a shop at the end of the day. It cannot be a language problem, as their English would appear to be equal to your own. However if that is the issue, then perhaps you should use Mandarin. They have done all that could be expected of them, so why would you not leave positive feedback, assuming that is what you were saying.

My lovely 23 yr old daughter has developed a love for travel as well as a talent for photography well beyond my abilities, and I'm a bit jealous.
Her equipment is becoming more sophisticated and correspondingly expensive as well.
Combine that with my love of practical jokes (at her expense), I've developed a intricate & devious plan to absolutely devastate her and then gleefully surprise her at the same time. Please tell me what you think.

We have plans in place to go back to beautiful Iceland this summer for 2 weeks mainly to explore the various waterfalls and mountain peaks, photographing them in detail as we go.

Her birthday will fall during this time, and I plan on upgrading her equipment to a Nikon D810 as a surprise. Of course I will have brought it along, bragging that it is 'MY' new camera.

Now for the practical joke:

I plan to "borrow " her current Nikon D7200 body with the intent of photographing her, as we stand in a precarious position above a cliff , a waterfall or other similar location.

As she stands watching, I'll make a point to change out a lens on what she assumes is the current D7200, fumbling to the point were she sees me 'accidently' drop her camera body perhaps hundreds of feet down to the ground or into the water. I will of course have changed out the D7200 body with an old non-working D40 i just picked up off of EBay for a few bucks -having safely ensconced the D7200 in my bag.

Oh, the look of sheer horror i expect to see on that beautiful face.

Of course being the dutiful dad I am, I will immediately offer up 'my' brand new D810 and the corresponding lenses as a sacrifice for her loss ( which was really for her anyway). I'm just wondering at what point should I hand back the original D7200 and try not to laugh so hard?

Given the learning curve for the D810 you'd better serve her by pre gifting her so she can be familiar with it prior to the trip. Control locations, settings do differ between cameras. If you get her a GPS it'll need the 10 point connector. I got a decent one at Camera for about $50.

Major Tech companies are pouring millions into driverless car technology.

So I'm just wondering, what do UHHers think about this upcoming technology and what changes will it bring?
Will driverless vehicles become the norm and driven vehicles become extinct, perhaps even illegal? Will we
be keeping "Red Barchettas" hidden in our garages?

I love driving but there are too many untrained, unlicensed, uninsured behind the wheel. Some Crash avoidance technology will save lives and override the fools behind the wheel. Issues like "texting" and drunk driving could easily be handled by sensors! So could excessive speed in residential areas- computers could monitor and control that easily!

No, I'm not guessing, but I will conduct the requested experiment and present the evidence tomorrow. The question is serious: Is there some property of the lens that would confuse the meter or otherwise cause an incorrect reading?

Once the lens is in "micro" mode for close up work it will require more exposure as you have changed the relative focal length of the lens by selecting this setting. The f stops on both lenses are for "normal" use, not the "micro" close up setting.

I have an SATA hard drive dock and several hard drives that I use for back ups of all types of things. Works fine. Two are duplicate storage for my photos. As far as the hard drives being fragile, not really. Done it for years with no problems. I don't use the drives for pounding nails. They just sit on the shelf when not in use. Large capacity and real convenient. Used to have an ATA dock. Still got it someplace, but upgraded to SATA when they became the standard drive. I also have some external USB hard drives for backup, but I find the dock to be handier.

Anyone else with a Nikon D610 that had to do AF fine tune for back focus issues....Mine was off quite a bit. Neither my D300 or D7100 had that issue.

Welcome to mass production. That is why a way to adjust is built into the camera, eh?

I've found several discussions on this but none that actually address my question.

I currently have the Tamron 150-600 G1. I've used it a fair amount and it does well but the pictures always seem a little soft. I've read that the new G2 version, as well as the Nikkor 200-500, is much better. I'm trying to decide if it is worth selling my G1 and buying either the G2 or Nikkor 200-500 and if so which. I know the following about each:

Tamron 150-600 G2:
Has much faster focus than the G1 and the Nikkor
Image Quality is excellent but slightly less than the Nikkor
Larger range than the Nikkor (50 on the bottom end and 100 on the top end)

Nikkor 200-500:
Image Quality is the best of the 3 lenses
Focus is faster than the Tamron G1 but slower than G2
Retains it's value better than the Tamron

My concern with the Nikkor is the shorter range and the slower focus. I'm wondering if that could cause me to miss some shots that the Tamron G2 might bring home. I have both a D750 and a D7200 I can use it with and of course I want the best IQ I can get.

Does anyone know how different the IQ is between the Nikkor 200-500 and the Tamron 150-600 G2? Is there a significant difference or are they close enough to not really be able to differentiate?

Is it worth the cost to sell the G1 and buy either the Tamron G2 or the Nikkor? Are the benefits great enough to be worth the cost?

Thanks,
Curtis

The answer from the manufacturer is to format in the camera you use it in! But you knew that, eh?

I used to shoot Raw file with Nikon D750 and am looking for a RAW file format editor.
I am thinking about PS Element 15 or Paintshop Pro X9 Ultimate.
Only my short experience for PP is with Faststone Image View. But I want to start with more powerful software
Please help me to decide which one is better choice for me to start with.
Thanks in advance for your shares and advices.

Elements is designed to work with 8 or 16 bit jpeg images, not RAW files.

My first question would be: Who did the refurbishing? If the answer is the same for both cameras then going with Cameta would seem to be a no-brainer, don't you think? Otherwise, my only concern would be the quality of the refurbishment.

When I purchased from Cameta my Nikon had a 90 day Nikon warranty and a 1 year extension from Cameta.

Looking at photo #2 it looks like the point of focus was the grass in front of the bird. Were you using spot focus or multiple points in this test?
