April and I have worked on backlighting her. She stands in front of one main light in a normal high key setup and I take her place on the normal 'x' spot. The back light reflecting off the backdrop puts some light on her. Camera settings are the same as I would typically use in a high key shoot, e.g. f/8, 1/125 and ISO 100. Also, since she is in front of the softbox or octagon, the setup is only good for 3/4 length images.
Here are a few that I would appreciate your comments on.
I really like your model April. She's got great expression and very sexy. The poses and expressions in pictures #1 & #4 to me are very good, the other two images doesn't really do anything for me.
Your lighting seems very straight forward and good.

Definitely sensual--nice work.

I think they are all nicely posed and lit - #2 is my favorite

They are all beautiful and well done!
Wonderful mood and lighting.
Likes in order: 4,1,3,2.
Observation - model is fresh, young and not heavily made up.
That said, would consider some attention to her hair.
Personally, the stringiness and lack of luster provide a
slight distraction.
Thanks for sharing.
Very nicely done, Jack. Kudos to April
Being in front of an octagon will give the soft wrap around lighting seen here, but it is a stretch to call it "backlit".
Good captures Jack. April is perhaps the easiest model to work with I have shot with so far. I'm guessing that those were taken in her 'front room'.

April is an amazingly fresh, young, comfortable, photogenic and beautiful model. For me, the absence of makeup adds to her freshness and to the spontaneous, unposed feeling of these photos, as does her wind blown looking hair giving her an aire of innocence. Even her knee level crop works well and leaves nothing wanting. #4 is my fave, #1 is next and #2 and 3, although still nice, don't work as well for me. Finally, I really like your lighting, the wrap around softness from the light behind her and the perfectly lit and shadowless front are close to perfect. Bravo, well done. I'd love to see a lighting diagram as I don't quite understand your explanation.

Just a term I used to differentiate from the more normal lighting setup.

Thanks for your compliments Jon. I'm shooting number 66 with April soon and will pass them along to her.
I took a high key diagram that is found everywhere on the 'net and edited it to one main light and one back light to show the lighting setup used. Now move the 'tog to the 'model's' spot and have the model stand directly in front of the main light. Use the camera settings you would normally use for the high key shot. That's it.
