Aspect ratios is the correct term. Couldn't think of it at the time.

...I'm doing some printing, and for this, changing aspect ratio is a must for me. I've fallen in love with the 8x24 look...it just seems to me we're in a prison of sorts, imposed by someone designing the initial 35mm SLR's, that is so ubiquitous as to be boring. The sameness of 2x3 is easily changed, however, with today's equipment and post-processing options (not that you couldn't do it pre-digital...it's just alot easier). My D800 allows for a high density pixel count that is ultimately croppable...and even my newer D4 gives me enough room...both of these bodies allow me to engage a crop factor feature, too, but that's not the point. Aspect ratio is what it's all about.

...recently had opportunity to tether through LR on my laptop. I've done this before, but it's rare, so far, that I do an inside studio-type shoot. First; has anyone been able to use Live View whilst tethering? So as to make lighting adjustments before clicking the shutter? I was in a bind for time so didn't get to experiment. Second; I was kinda shocked that the files were not written to my camera's card!? Using a D800. Any thoughts?

...I started using Lexar cards many moons ago but lately have been turned-on to Delkin. I've been using a 64 GB 1000x Delkin card for over a year with great results (read: it has not failed)...also a 32 GB Delkin in my bag and used alot with same results. Big cards work, but it's nice having dual-card bodies too. ;)

You're quite welcome. After you've removed all soap residue and the print is dry, I'd recommend spraying on a clear-coat (check an art supply store).

...been experimenting with 'coats...doing some framing and mounting and foolin' around with canvas...Breathing Color products are very good, but Hahnamuhle spray is really good too...what do you use?

If you don't have print heads on your print, use a mild solution of dish detergent and warm water, wiping gently with a lint-free cloth dampened in the solution.

I bought a D700 when it came out and loved it big...then got a D800 and had a great backup...when I got my D4 I finally sold my 700 to a photo-buddy who is ecstatic with his "new" camera. Stick with the full frame combo, you can't go wrong.

...dude signed on the line. He's a deserter and should be treated as such. *My* army had many draftees (I was one, but enlisted to go to flight school...) and I was in the middle of a war almost universally unpopular, both home *and* in-country. Most of us did our duty, drafted or not, which speaks well for our sense of honor. I've heard/read reports that 5+ men died trying to find this piece of dog-doo. His folks taught him the hippy mentality and he ran with it...no pun... ;)

...I shot the Library of Congress and various Smithsonians last summer with my 24-70 f2.8 and results were very cool. AFA a flash, with all the glass cases and whatnot I would (and did!) stay away...instead find the angle to avoid reflections/glare. Just takes a little time and you get better at it...

...I'm a Nikon guy, but very easily could be Canon. Very little difference in entry-level bodies and lenses. Once you accumulate some lenses, however, then, unless you're blessed with lots of dough, you may become locked-in to whichever company you've bought into. I wouldn't fret at this point, just get the camera that fits *you* best and push on! I own the best stuff Nikon makes, but take fine photos with my phone and/or tablet...heh...
