I presently own a D7000 and a D800. I have made a trade with a relative who did not want the D700 and it is on it's way to my house. I may just keep all three cameras but if any of you had a choice of a D7000 or a D700 body, both in 9-9.5 condition which would you keep?

If it's a backup to the D800, I would keep the D700, because the controls are basically identical and both are full frame.

I'd keep the D700. it may only have a 12MP sensor, but it'll be your "fast" DSLR for sports or other action. It's buffer capacity is good; it takes an after market booster battery second shutter release; and is built like a tank. It had lots of features taken from the D3, which made it a real bargain workhorse when it was released. That is why the D600 didn't have as many features- the D700 took too many sales away from the top of the line.

I think you should keep the D700 for the reasons above. Then cousin Dennis you can send me the D7000.

I knew I had some relatives living in the area where you live. Where was that again? I have so many relatives back wherever it is. I get so confused.

Thanks so much to those who have given answers already. If I decide to get rid of the D7000 or D700 I will certainly post it here.

As much as I like the D7000/7100, the D700 is a good, FF camera. Snapsort likes it, too. I'd keep the D700 and put the D7000 on ebay.

I'd keep the Full Frame D700...especially if you do sports and or low light...it handles ISO 6400 very well with little or no noise. Even though I own the D7000...I'd give it up in a heart beat for a D700.

I agree with everybody else. The D700 would also be my choice. I own one and use it most of the time. If you really need a DX camera, the D7000 might work but my experience with one I bought 3 years ago was that it was no better than my old D80 so I sold it. May have just been a dud.

Thanks everyone for the replies. Your opinions are just what I was looking for. Now I just have to wait for the D700.

Two additional thoughts to make you feel better about this. When the D7000 came out, the conversation was, "Is the image quality as good as the D700?" Some said it was, others said it wasn't, but noboday said it was better. And if you ever think, "I want a 16mp DX camera", remember that you already have it in the D800.

Hope the wait isn't too long. :-)

Thanks. Good information to think about.

it's slower than the 7000 the 7000 is better for sports the only thing the d700 has got going for itself is it's built like a tank , but the tek knowledge of the 7000 is ahead of the d700 , by a few years , the d700 is worth more than the 7000 on the used market and it's full frame . but the picture quality of the d7000 is just as good if not better . For everyday use I think I would go with
the 7000 , your not losing any thing .

My experience is that the IQ from the D700 is better than the D7000. That's why I sold the D7000 after one photo trip. The D7000 is like a toy beside the D700. As a back up to the D800, the D700 is perfect. That's my kit.

Well Dennis, you know what I am going to say! D700 all the way! What a camera and low light is the deal here. With the battery grip, I've got my 8 fps if needed, as I had been looking at a used D4, but out of my budget.
Now, if you want, just send me your D800 and I will check it out and see if it compares to my D700! lol

The D700 is by far better than the D7000 in almost every respect.
