Any suggestions? I have Googled it but haven't found a solution that works yet. Thought I'd ask the hoggers here.

Thanks in advance. The crazy thing is I think I had this issue before but I can't remember what I did to correct it.

Here are a link to data recovery software and reasons why a drive might malfunction. Perhaps one reason might jog your memory as to what you did to correct the situation before.

I have an older recovery software program as well as a more heavy-duty program that have performed well for me:
Lexar Image Rescue 4 and Exxxxx Data Recovery.

https://recoverit.wondershare.com/free-data-recovery/damaged-hard-drive-recovery-software.html

I once formatted by mistake one of my 14 TB WD hard drives and recovered everything exactly to a second 14 TB WD hard drive with Exxxxx.

I am NOT endorsing any program as everyone has their own issues and needs!

Holy smoke! Went to buy a new Android phone. Amazing.. one has a 200 mp rear camera. I can't imagine that. They had it wired up to the display so did not get to try it out. My last phone was 7 years old, the newer ones are amazing. Why would anyone want a 200 mp rear camera? What are your thoughts?

200 MP for better video and general image editing?

One of the reasons I enjoy the UHH site is that the various threads very often whet my appetite to explore other subjects and ideas that are brought up. Your thread got me to search for info about cell phone sensors. I found this: https://thesmartphonephotographer.com/size-of-phone-camera-sensors/

I bought a Sony Xperia 4 years ago that had a 20 MP which was a lot at that time. Among the latest crop of phones, files have grown to 50 MP and sensor sizes have also grown larger.

Now Samsung S23 has a 200 MP sensor for its primary camera and only 12 and 10 MP for wide and tele purposes; it uses only a smaller 1/1.3" sensor while some other brands have 50 MP paired with 1.0" sensors for all 3 purposes. This seems to be the better solution. Only time will tell:
https://www.gsmarena.com/best_android_phone_for_photography-review-2541p2.php

Currently, I use and have used LG, Samsung and Sony cell phones. I bought a Sony Xperia 4 years ago that had a 20 MP which was a lot at that time. Recently, I transferred to my desktop some images from a "run-of-the-mill" LG phone and they were pretty amazing on the whole yet were only 8 MP!

Great cartoon! Your title reminded me of a film I saw in 2012 called Robot and Frank. A "small" film starring veteran Broadway and Hollywood actor Frank Langella and Susan Sarandon. It was filmed up in your neck of the woods, Cold Spring, NY.

A description of the plot and actors (look for free streaming link near middle of the webpage): https://www.justwatch.com/us/movie/robot-and-frank

The film is currently streaming on PlutoTV for free (includes ads): https://pluto.tv/en/on-demand/movies/5bf5b875b5efa3169c8a700e

The film has a message for us oldsters! I highly recommend it! Be well! Ed

Yes, I have problems with printers. I recently got an Epson ET-8500 ink tank printer, and it's great - usually, sometimes. I had done a lot of text printing, and I wanted to print on a DVD. There are so many Menus and settings that it took me hours to find the right combination to get it to print on a disk. After messing with it for a long time, I was able to get it to print on a disk, but it was shifted to the right. No good. It was only by trial and error that I was able to find the correct combination of settings to print on disks....

Any experience with using CD/DVD printable labels? I still have (some where!) printable labels from back in the day when I saved to CDs and DVDs. Avery offered a software template (from their website) with their labels to show you for placement and where to type and several labels could be printed at once.

An older Epson printer had a holder for CDs/DVDs which I found cumbersome so I switched to labels and once in a while, I used a Sharpie!

For those interested, here's everything anyone would want to know about labeling their CDs and DVDs:

Scruples!

Yes, this is a sign to the entrance of NYC neighborhood playgrounds which restrict them to kids only or with their parents. Very often you also see folks without kids just hanging out anyway!

I guess the sign trys to minimize the number of perverts!

UncleBuck!

Nice image! Your post reminded me of the Forbes Galleries, formerly located here in NYC (5th Avenue and
12th Street) on the ground floor. Malcolm S. Forbes, the former publisher and editor of Forbes magazine had among the museum's notable exhibits over time included "Olympic Gold", a collection of medals and other collectibles from some of the world's most accomplished Olympians, a number of Fabergé eggs, an armada of 500 ships and 12,000 toy soldiers and one of the original Monopoly boards. All on exhibit to the public gratis!

The collection included nine Imperial eggs, three Kelch eggs and more than 180 other Faberge pieces, such as jewelry and desk accessories. The nine Imperial eggs were purchased by Victor Vekselberg, a Russian industrialist, for an estimated $100 million, and what he called ''perhaps the most significant example of our cultural heritage outside Russia,'' and returned them to Russia.

I loved going to the Forbes Galleries; Mr. Forbes died in 1990 and his family sold his collections as well as the building and the galleries closed in 2014.

I hear lots of bad things about timeshares and timeshare presentations. My wife and I once owned four of them, and there was never a problem. Well, let me modify that. Getting rid of them was difficult....

Jerry et al!

There's a timeshare secondary market and companies who deal with them. If one wants one (or more!), do it for less!

My brother and SIL have had one for ages and enjoy using it every year!

YouTube last night - Sabine Hossenfelder. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mh_hNvGTmIg&t=58s

The Department of Defense used AI to simulate a real-world situation involving a few imaginary countries. They were surprised and concerned at how quickly the AIs resorted to nuclear war, in one case, just to prevent the other side from going nuclear. ChatGPT was the worst, resorting to nuclear quickly without much need for it. In general, all the AIs found that nuclear war was the answer, whether there was a sufficient reason or not.

Remember "Colossus: The Forbin Project"?

1/25 is way too slow...

Next time try "Auto ISO" with F2.8 to F4 and 1/250 sec for single subject if moving. F2.8 for your 200mm is perfect. Set K value so your live screen matches what you see... ISO is not your main concern.

F6.3 i good for a wide shot with a whole band in focus at 28mm.

Nice image! Jerry's Nikon 28-300mm lens' maximum aperture is F3.5 and has VR so the quoted exposure setting and ISO is a good compromise. This lens gets mixed reviews, photographers either love it or not! I love it as I have two of them!

After modest editing and no cropping in Lightroom, I can’t email a full-sized JPEG. It arrives greatly reduced. Example: 36MP original may be 1.5MP when converted to JPEG but email recipient gets a 175 KB image. I have tried downloading and saving the full-sized image to files, and then sending that version. (Trying to take Lightroom out of the equation). Still the same result.

Several other hoggers have recommended wetransfer.com and I do also!

See this link for more info: https://help.wetransfer.com/hc/en-us/articles/210064643-The-difference-between-email-transfers-and-link-transfers

I photograph art work, mostly flat art and I usually email my clients files of their art. One job required sending them 6 files as big as 700 MB each! They offer a 2 GB limit for free! Using wetransfer.com, the price is right and you can email files. Larger transfers require payment.

You probably know what the term "steampunk" means. If not, take a look at "Mortal Engines" on Prime. It takes place about a thousand years in the future, after a war using quantum weapons made a mess of civilization. The sets and machines are amazing. It's all CGI, of course, but that in itself is amazing, like the dinosaurs in the Jurassic movies.

Another movie with a "steampunk/dieselpunk" vibe is "A League of Extraordinary Gentlemen." See this link for a synopsis:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_League_of_Extraordinary_Gentlemen_(film)

It's an adventure/action movie starring Sean Connery in his last film before retiring.

From Wikipedia: "...the film features prominent pastiche and crossover themes[5] set in the late 19th century. It features an assortment of fictional literary characters appropriate to the period who act as Victorian era superheroes. It draws on the works of Jules Verne, H. G. Wells, Bram Stoker, Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, H. Rider Haggard, Ian Fleming, Herman Melville, Oscar Wilde, Robert Louis Stevenson, Edgar Allan Poe, Gaston Leroux, and Mark Twain, albeit all adapted for the film."

Hi,
Can anyone help me with this?
I have a Nikon D7000 and I shoot with RAW. How can I get the files to transfer to JPG or something, Currently, my Photoshop CS5 does not recognize them.

Any idea anyone?

Thanks for your help.

Chasc!

I normally use Nikon NX Studio (as well as Nikon Capture NX2 for my older Nikon cameras) for my NEF files among all the other editing programs that I also have and use. Each has their own features and efficiencies!

Very often, I use FastStone Image Viewer, see: https://www.faststone.org/FSViewerDetail.htm for a "quick and dirty" image adjustment. It is simple to use compared to other software! Currently, I'm using a relatively new (2 years old) Nikon Z5 camera and my NEF files download and open without a problem! If I can open these files, then FastStone will probably open your older Nikon D7000 NEF files. The price is right (FREE DOWNLOAD!).

In the Menu bar along the top is "Tools." The drop down window contains batch processing tools. Go to "Help" all the way to the right to download a Tutorial.

Your NEF files will remain, not be converted and encumbered with DNGs and you will be able to save as jpegs or whatever!

I’m still trying to figure out my new camera. I try and read things on the web, but trying to make since of things. I have been using the electronic shutter for most pics. I read that the mechanical shutter is faster. Wondering what others are using when taking photos. Also is there an easy way to program buttons for single shot and continuous shots with a click of button. Thanks everyone

Whenever I get a new or "brand-used" camera, I always Google: "Suggested settings for XXX camera" and many hits later, I can peruse any number of websites and their recommendations.

Here's one for your Sony A-1: https://www.colbybrownphotography.com/the-complete-setup-guide-for-the-sony-a1/

The photographer shows each of the camera's menus and his suggested choice. Although he's a Sony shooter, when you click on "Blog," there's quite a few travel and technique articles that would interest all photographers.

I've been watching YouTube videos about 3D printers, and the temptation to get one is growing stronger. Bambu and Prusa seem to be the top choices, although not the least expensive. Several of the YT people say people hesitate to buy one because they don't know what they would print with it. That's my problem. They go on to say that once you have one, you'll do a lot of printing. I'm still doubtful about how much use I'd get out it. Making things is cheaper than buying them, but you have to figure in the cost of the machine, the supplies, and the electricity. They run hot. They all say there is no such thing as a perfect printer, regardless of cost.

I like to use the ‘soft shutter release buttons’ on my older, Nikon cameras — such as the FM2n or FE2. The kind that screw into the shutter buttons. BUT, they do have a nasty habit of becoming unscrewed, then lost. And, they do cost to replace. So, my question is whether someone has a good way to secure them so they do not so easily unscrew themselves, yet are not so glued in that they can not be readily removed when desired?
Any thoughts that have worked for you are welcome.

William!

Have you tried plumber's white teflon pipe fitting tape? It's flexible and you could try wrapping the tape one circumference around the thread of your soft shutter release button. I would give it a try as the tape could be removeable with this usage.
