Holy smoke! Went to buy a new android phone. Amazing.. one has a 200 mp rear camera. I can't imagine that. They had it wired up to the display so did not get to try it out. My last phone was 7 years old, the newer ones are amazing. Why would anyone want a 200 mp rear camera? What are your thoughts?
Augh, augh, augh, more pixels!
Augh, augh, augh.
My S21 has pixels,
I don't remember how many....
Nor care?
I like the images, but not conducive to printing 8x12s.

What the web says: The 200MP sensor can take good photos in both broad daylight and low light. Photos in normal mode have captured most details and if you turn on Night Mode, the images will be on the brighter side.
For $1200 - I'll pass.

Phone needs a lot of MP so that they can zoom.
Meh. Can you make a phone call with it?

What? You are what? Three, four generations behind?

The megapixels are very, very, very tiny in cell phones, especially phones that have 200 mp. Cell phone manufacturers also use pixel binning, which clusters the megapixels to make them bigger but hurts resolution. Finally, they use lots of AI and other technologies to improve the final look of the jpeg. Great for sharing on social media and when viewing on a phone screen but not as good for printing.
200 mp sounds good, however, when marketing the phone.

I don't want photographs of my rear at any definition level.

I don't want a camera that photographs my rear no matter what the resolution is.

I think Olympus makes the most popular rear camera and they are still making them. No when the sold their camera business they didn't sell the rear camera business. It's a profitable business for them.

try 18...
My S21 replaced my S-III,
ONLY because the S-III would no longer work as a phone after 1/1/2023.
The S-III met my needs, why replace it if it works?
To have the latest and greatest? <ROFL>

200 MP for better video and general image editing?
One of the reasons I enjoy the UHH site is that the various threads very often whet my appetite to explore other subjects and ideas that are brought up. Your thread got me to search for info about cell phone sensors. I found this:
https://thesmartphonephotographer.com/size-of-phone-camera-sensors/ I bought a Sony Xperia 4 years ago that had a 20 MP which was a lot at that time. Among the latest crop of phones, files have grown to 50 MP and sensor sizes have also grown larger.
Now Samsung S23 has a 200 MP sensor for its primary camera and only 12 and 10 MP for wide and tele purposes; it uses only a smaller 1/1.3" sensor while some other brands have 50 MP paired with 1.0" sensors for all 3 purposes. This seems to be the better solution. Only time will tell:
https://www.gsmarena.com/best_android_phone_for_photography-review-2541p2.phpCurrently, I use and have used LG, Samsung and Sony cell phones. I bought a Sony Xperia 4 years ago that had a 20 MP which was a lot at that time. Recently, I transferred to my desktop some images from a "run-of-the-mill" LG phone and they were pretty amazing on the whole yet were only 8 MP!
Be well! Ed
