3D Printers, Again

I've been watching YouTube videos about 3D printers, and the temptation to get one is growing stronger. Bambu and Prusa seem to be the top choices, although not the least expensive. Several of the YT people say people hesitate to buy one because they don't know what they would print with it. That's my problem. They go on to say that once you have one, you'll do a lot of printing. I'm still doubtful about how much use I'd get out it. Making things is cheaper than buying them, but you have to figure in the cost of the machine, the supplies, and the electricity. They run hot. They all say there is no such thing as a perfect printer, regardless of cost.

I've been watching YouTube videos about 3D printer... (show quote)

I think it may be a good idea to have decent ventilation when in use. At my Alma Mater (NC State Univ). They’ve currently closed a 6 story major building after discovering “a cancer cluster” of about 100 cases among students and employees working in the basement labs used for 3D printing. Apparently, the contamination was PCBs, showing up at 38x the EPA max reccommended level when the building was in use with the HVAC on. The building has been closed for 3months now as the university does further testing and damage control. Not suggesting that all (or any) 3D printers produce aerosolized PCBs, but perhaps ventilation might be a good idea.

I saw something my Son-in-law printed on his. Best of both worlds, I can use it whenever I want and he paid for it. I’ll share the PCB warnings with him. Maybe he can 3D print an exhaust fan system.

I know how to draw with a CAD software kinda OK but I wouldn't know how to draw a design to feed the 3D printer.

My 3rd advantage is that SIL is a mechanical engineer and he can do that stuff in his 😄

But if I have 3D printer I would try to make battery packs for my Metz 60CT4 flash. Fixture for my shutter tester.

SIL is short for Sister In Law and yet we have a "he" further along. So should we have had a BIL or 'she' ?
Only reason I raise this is I have been viewing 'stories' Revenge and Malicious and they make this mistake very often. It is attention to detail and why it pays to re-read anything/everything before posting.

My bad, I thought it was short for Son in Law. For clarification he is the husband of my middle daughter. He graduated in the 80’s from Gonzaga University School of Engineering. He is employed by a firm that builds and sells machines for the cardboard industry that are sold and installed world wide. He holds at least two patents, maybe more. My grandson works for the same company in their robotics division and is going to Brazil next week for an install.

OK. Just whenever you thought you have caught someone out turns out to be a legitimate mistake which you had never thought of. I probably wouldn't have thought anything of it if I hadn't been reading the stories, which I am trying to give up. There is also MIL and FIL. MIL's appear to be the worst followed by SILs.

It’s because you Kiwis are standing up side down😎 just kidding, I found the most wonderful, generous and pleasant people when I visited New Zealand back in the early 90s and would never hesitate to visit your beautiful country if the opportunity. Loved the place.

I have always enjoyed my visits to the US although they are off now as long as a certain individual, who shall remain nameless, could end up as your leader thus demoting the US to a country that no longer demands respect.

Buy one. If you use it - great. If you don't use it, it probably won't affect your lifestyle.

You know how to use it & make a design to feed it to print?
