Is weight really a big issue, honestly? If it is the answer is obvious.

Is the difference in price really a big issue? If it is the answer is obvious.

Will the lenses available from either be suitable to the type of photography your interested in? My guess here is that in the very slim chance neither will fill your needs there's a number of other quality lens makers that can meet your needs for the camera you select.

That brings up the real question, what do you need, what kind of photography do you envision for your self. Which of the two brands has the most function and options that will meet those needs?

The question is too vague, the criteria too nebulous for any one to be able to answer it.

My main photointerests are: landscapes, travel and monuments, churches etc. I love taking photos, when possible, of churches and also inside where you can find many interesting things to photograph. I rarely do macro and portraits because its not for me.
Tomorrow I'm going to Plovdiv and will bring my Oly gear (1 body and max 2 lenses). So as you can see both match my needs and have plenty of lenses for my type of photography. And yes cost is a problem but not a huge one. You know I'm not a pro so my concern is that expensive lenses are hard to justify to my wife and from what I see Sony lenses are maybe more expensive than Nikons. On the other hand weight is a concern.
I Know it seems a silly question but fore me it is not.
Probably its a serious GAS attack

Thanks for your answers. I'm leaning towards less weight even if my heart is with Nikon. I can just wait another bit and try to make the best choice for me but it's just like my heart says Nikon and my head says Sony because I'm getting too old to lug around heavy gear.

Life can be difficult at times...

Hi fellow Hogs,

I'm in the process of buying a new camera but am not sure what to get.
My choice is between the Sony A7 and the Nikon D610. The problem for me are the lenses. Sony is more expensive and has fewer lenses to choose from but is lighter, Nikon on the other hand has many lenses and cheaper (at least some of them) but is bulkier and heavier.
IQ wise I suppose they are in the same league.

What would you choose?

Thanks for your help.

I also use the 50-200 and agree: it's stellar.

Cannot help you directly but the sensor is not the only factor .

The lens is a big factor.

I know it's not the only factor but I'm curious to see how it performs consiering that the 24mpx is a new one for canon, if I remember correctly.

Hi fellow Hogs,

I'm very curious about the new Canon and Pentax camera announcements: mainly the Canon 760 and Pentax K-S2.
My main question is about sensor performance. I can't really find any information about these new sensors. Maybe the Pentax 20mpx sensor is the same as the one on the S1 but would like to know something about IQ and Iso performance.
I'm also so curious about the new Canon 24mpx sensor.
Does anyone have more information.

Thanks in advance.

Hi fellow hogs,

has anyone tried this lens on a Canon M body? I should like to know how is AT speed. I can buy this lens for real cheep and am willing to know if AF speed is decent with Canon M and new firmware.

Thanks

Hello elandel.
I think you will be ok with the 18-135mm STM.

Thanks

Hi fellow hogs,

I'm going to Plovdiv, Bulgaria next month and I'm planning to take the Eos M with me instead of my Olympus EP5.
I have the 22mm kit lens and want a zoom that I have to buy. I cannot make a decision between the native mount Tamron 18-200 and the Canon 18-135 STM that I can mount with the adapter.

Between these two which do you suggest for faster AF, IQ and portability (even if I think this will not be a problem).
I think one major drawback for the Tamron is it's value if I want to sell in the future. Here in Italy it is next to none.

I also bought the eos m at an incredible price and love it.
I have both native lens and the adapter. I primarily do landscape photography.
I decided to buy the efs 10-18mm wide angle and it works really well.

You did not mention what type of photography you most enjoy.
With the current version of the eos m the focus is quite fast and, for me with my favored type of photography, the focus speed was never an issue.
The incredible image quality is pre-eminent.

By the way I also have a Minolta x700 film camera with several lens. An after market adaptor (quite cheap) allows me to use these lens with my eos m, in manual, and works very well.

I also do primarily landscape and will use it for travel/holidays with some 'architecture' like monuments, churches etc. so AF is no problem for me.
I wouls like a do-everything zoom like a 18-200 and a wide angle with good quality because like you for me IQ is preminent.

From what I remember when I was looking at this when it first came out, autofocus in general was sluggish, regardless of if you were using adapted or native lenses. That may have changed with firmware updates since then.

I ended up going Fuji, so that's about all the info I have.

There isn't a lot of information out there on this system, as it has never sold that well, but it's out there if you look hard and long enough.

Thanks

Sorry, missed that. The rest of my post would still apply in my opinion.

No problem. I would like to know which canon lenses AF reasonably other than native lenses.

Unless you have another EF body, I'd stick with the native lenses. By the time you add in the $99 for the Canon M to EF adapter I don't know that it's worth adapting since you'll loose the advantage of smaller sized lenses.

If you have another EF body, then here is the adapter. http://www.bhphotovideo.com/bnh/controller/home?O=&sku=1021045&gclid=CLGZ46Xum8MCFUw2aQodOSMAkw&Q=&is=REG&A=details

I have the adapter because it came with the kit.

Hi fellow hogs,

I have a question for you. I just bought a Canon Eos M new for a steal with the 22mm lens and eos ef adapter.
I'm willing to fit other lenses - I'm thinking about a zoom.
My question is which lens do you recommend that can AF at a reasonable speed? even adapted ones.
I was thinking about the 18-135 is usm but then read that ther is the new STM version that is faster on the Eos M, is this true.
My main shots with this little piece of kit will be mainly static objects and travel photography.

Thanks.

Agree. For me external buttons are imvaluable and internal AF motor also, but not for all.
