An EOS 60D dates to 2010 and discontinued around 2013 when the EOS 70D was released. The camera was rated to 5 frames per second, plenty fast enough for most everything, but rather pedestrian relative to both new cameras (especially mirrorless) and more sports-dedicated models. For example, the end of this line of EOS DSLRs, the EOS 90D, performs at 10 fps.

The repair is unlikely to be economically viable. KEH has used copies at $260. Even if you could find one around $200 on ebay, that same amount would probably be better spent on a newer camera rather than a replacement / repair.

"Gave out" is not every descriptive, although may be accurate for just dying. If changing batteries with a battery known to work in another camera and the camera won't even turn on, well, probably just time to move on.

I owned this camera until it wore out and gave up on me. Took it to the beach, and it worked in all kinds of conditions, extreme heat and extreme cold. One day it just gave out :(

I have never had a camera so fast when it came to continuous shooting.

Which cameras would be similar to this trophy camera nowadays?

Would it be even worth trying to take it to a repair shop?

Your camera meter is better in this respect. Besides you don't need a meter. Just take test shot and adjust. However, to take good picture which has both sun and shade post processing is likely needed.

What I am saying, is that I am standing in the shade, and the people posing are in the sun, so my camera meter is telling me one thing, while the sun indicates another.

There are a lot of posts on the UHH about this and also a lot of the comparision on the web. The one aspect is the viewfinder which you have to check it out for yourself.

I use the little screen on both...and the controls in the screen..
I have a eosr, it's lighter one advantage

Why do those people who have a choice in a system that still has DSLRs and mirrorless still purchase technologically antiquated and some discontinued DSLRs that came out years ago that will soon not be supported.
They have the option of buying far more technologically advanced cameras for the same money that will still receive service.
Just curious what is the driving force to spend money on old obsolete cameras?

I guess the answer should be more inclined about the advantages and disadvantages of both. I have an 80d, great camera, both in photo and video. If somebody can post this info maybe we can make an educated decision of which is a better choice.

Does anybody know of any good phone apps for this?

Sometimes I find myself shooting in the shade while my party is in the sun and vice-versa.
I just don't want to carry more gear than I should.

Thank you!

I have had this camera for about 3 years, an excellent camera overall.
However, I was filming in 1080, an automatic setting, and after 10 seconds, the camera would stop filming. I could hear the shutter stop. Then, I would turn it off and on, then it would start again for 30 seconds, and it would stop again. It happened 3 times, until I just used it for pictures.
What could have gone wrong?
Anybody else with this issue?
Scary when you are filming an event, and the nearest camera is in your car :(

To all the haters and the lovers, I appreciate your sensible advice. I love this forum because I get points of view from different perspectives.
Lesson learned: buy extended warranty.

Blessings to all!

Yes there had been some A7III with premature shutter failures, and yes in NJ there was a class-action suit over it.

But also know that the A7III is the largest selling single fullframe mirrorless camera in the world and most folks have had extraordinarily reliable and superb performance with it, pros and amateurs alike . Those stories dont make the forums, only any failures or issues.

I personally have owned Sony A6500, A7RII, A7RIII, A7III, A9 and now own A7RIV, A1, A7SIII. I have made hundreds of thousands of professional and personal shots with these Sony cameras around the world without a single camera failure, ever. Never had an issue with my A7III.

In my 40+ years history owning Nikon and Canon gear (both brands) I did experience the occasional camera failure in both brands of gear. No camera brand is immune to this, NONE. And no single camera model is ever without some issues.

My advice, try to talk with the Sony sales rep for your area (your dealer can direct you to that person). I have found them to be more directly responsible to consumers.

Your issue needs checking out. Call Precision Camera in Enfield, Connecticut , they are a major Sony authorized repair facility. Maybe they can diagnose your problem better.

Best to you.

Way back when, I purchased a toy called the Mavica. It was sort of an expensive toy at the time and used a disk drive to store photos on. I had a disk drive failure and sent the camera back to Sony for repair. I think back then it cost about 150 for the repair. The camera worked fine for about 3 months and the drive failed again. Sony said it was out of the 90 day warranty period but to send it in to evaluate it. No luck and this time they wanted to charge me more for the same problem. I told them to send the camera back I had plans to use it as a small boat anchor. Apparently they went ahead and fixed it while doing the evaluation. No Matter, no more complaints from me I just stopped buying anything with the name Sony on it. I had a similar experience with a well known manufacturer, It was an easy decision for me and now I use strictly Canon and their lenses. Easy Peasy and even with service which I seldom use they are always helpful. That is until the time they are not.
