Thank you for this. I have a Pixel 7 (also an android device and may be similar to Samsung) and are wondering the same thing. Gone are the days when companies that manufactured complex "anything" almost always included an instruction manual. I wish companies would return to this practice. They should include the cost of printing this instruction manual in the price of the equipment. I do not think anyone would have a problem with paying for this.

You know there is a manual, right?

Anyway, once you see the phone icon in your computer you just need to go into the network connection, select USB properties and select transfer file.

If you do not know where that is, just use the search funccton and ask for USB properties.

Simple enough IF YOU READ THE MANUAL.

As to the location? DCIM directory.

What manual? When I bought my current Google Pixel 7 new a year ago . . . there was no manual with it.

There might be one available as a PDF on-line.

Exactly. Some of us old guys still prefer paper to on-line.

I just bought an Invicta watch. Not only did it not come with a manual, one is not available unless you scan a QR Code, which means it can't be printed unless you can print from phone without jumping though a lot of hoops.

Even if so, not as convenient or easy to use.

From now on, I think I will rely less on my phone, and more on a camera with a card.

Don't give up. After reading this entire thread, I've come to the conclusion that you have a cable that only charges. I have one of those and was puzzled when I tried using it to transfer some photos from my phone. USB-C cables are often sold in grocery stores, pharmacies and many other stores like Target and Walmart.

I still rely on "real" cameras when it counts, partcularly when traveling, but I do take pictures with my phone when I'm without a camera. I wouldn't give up that option.

Agreed. At any given time, the best camera is the one you have with you, and that might just be a phone.

I have dozens of manuals in PDF form.
They (the contents) are searchable.
Much handier than dozens of paper manuals.
Plus they take up no <physical> space.

They are fine for people who like them. I don't find them as easy to use.

I use my Galaxy S23 Ultra as my go to camera these days (the Canon R5 sits unused most days).

Transferring photos is easy after you learn the steps. I keep a USB-C cord plugged into my USB port on the front panel of my desktop for the phone or the Pro Grade card reader. I make sure the phone is logged into before I start any transfer. The first time the phone is used for transferring data, it may prompt you to allow the connection. Once this is answered it usually remembers the next time(s) you hook up and log in.

From File Explorer, find the phone under This PC (I am using Windows 11) in the left hand side. Click on the phone and on the right hand side, an icon Internal storage should display. Double click on this icon (Internal storage) and you will have many folders. Double click on the DCIM folder. The Camera folder should be there. I usually click on the Camera folder, Screenshots folder, and Facebook folder (If I saved any photos from Facebook) and do a Cut (CTL-X). I then move to the folder I want to paste (CTL-V) these folders in. I rename the folders and pictures. I then copy and paste these new folders to any backup drives. Email is the slow way and used mainly for showing others of our great works of art (just kidding).

I have hundreds of manuals in PDF. There is pros and cons as compared to paper manuals. The paper manual can be read any where. Using phone to read PDF isn't what I want to do. I need a computer to do it. But of course the PDF take less space and they don't get torn or dirty. What I often do is to print out the few pages I need and then throw them away afterward.
