After the last hurricane in Texas flooding my sons home. My 50-600 lens sat on a shelf with 3 feet of water below for two weeks.
Well fungus grew a city in that lens.
Sigma pitched a big story we want to help.
So I sent Lens in and they said oh man we will knock off 100$ on a new one.
Did not accept , the lens takes good images in spite of the fungus , weird but true.
I am just itching to get in that lens and clean it myself. Anybody know how to do this and what tools?
So far I can’t even get independent repair shops to do it. I just want someone with balls to do it and try to clean as much as they can. If it comes out bad it’s on me
Any ideas out there

If the lens still shoots, put in the sun to kill fungus and keep on shooting.

What photo editor seems to work well with an ipad?

Please try Darkroom if you don't want Adobe. Does most everything well.

Because my Windows computer can't seem to find the monitor, I'm without my 145 pages of links.

Here is what Google has to offer. I didn't know there was a free Adobe Photoshop Express.

There is a free version of Capture One. Most don't know. Hidden gem.

Hi my name is Edna Maclean I haven't been on here for a long time
I have windows 10 on my computer but I do not like the photo editing program they offer
are there any free photo editing programs out there very new at this on this new computer
any help would be welcome.

Capture One Express could be what you need. It's free and does most of what Capture One Pro does. Excellent raw conversion and one of the best color editors. Levels, curves, sharpen and done. Stay safe, Dee

I first noticed the use of "image" about ten years ago at a photography workshop. Now I hear it all the time in YouTube videos about photography. Is there a reason for this usage?

Capture is in my mind and I try and image that. Dee

great pick up. That is so weird. When I was checking things out I had not extended the lens. I wonder why that happens?

Old topic but still troubling for me. YOU CAN NOT CHECK THINGS OUT UNTIL YOU EXTEND THE LENS. Maybe more than one thing and operator error? On screen and EVF it shows, "Before taking photos, rotate the zoom ring to extend the lens". Until the lens is extended, you can not focus, release shutter, or access any menu including the i menu. He stated i menu showed M when he wanted AFC. Simple error but can't be done until lens extended. Please enlighten me. I grew up with a camera around my neck and turning 81 next month, still carry. Photogs never really retire. Just keep on clicking. Stay safe, Dee

Well I am back in the game.

Because I called in to a good, local computer repair shop earlier today. Took my iMac with me.

They told me that that particular iMac cannot have the RAM upgraded to 16GB but they could install a SSD. However, they looked up the Apple Photos app and said there were a number of complaints from others that it was freezing.

I was told to save my money, the iMac was perfectly good and to choose a photo editing application that supplied my needs.

My only outstanding query is whether all the relevant software programs, i.e. the photo editing apps, will run without any bother on 8GB.

So a bit more research into the RAM requirements of these software apps and then it's all systems go.

Once again, I couldn't have done this without all your help!

This is an older topic but will post anyway. Hope you see this and get the software you need. I use Capture One and love it. If you don't need the full featured version they have Capture One Express and it is free. Does all the basic edits with their excellent raw conversion. Don't know what camera you have but if you want to upgrade, they have just added a Nikon specific version. It is not much more expensive than PS Elements and much more capable. Especially with colors. Wish you well and stay safe. Dee

I have been having a frustrating problem which is really not reproducible but drives me nuts. Sometimes when I hit the shutter release button, nothing happens. the "?" does flash, but when I hit the ? spot nothing appears. I have the shutter release set to release, not focus. I have read and reread the annual and the longer Nikon-supplied reference manual as well as 2 third party manuals. Everything seems to be set correctly, although Nikon seemed to suggest that as long as the camera is in AF-C the focus won't lock, which isn't the case, since it definitely locks with BB focus when I release the BB.

I asked the same question on dpreview and someone suggested that AF-C is only set in the "I menu." Since I didn't remember how I set it up, I looked at the "i menu." It turns out that when I hit the button to bring up the menu, the initial image under auto focus mode shows the letter M. When you hit okay, the window changes and you see the choices from left to right of AF-A, AF-S, AF-C and MF. The AF-C is highlighted in yellow. When I hit the okay button it reverts to the initial "i menu." Is this something to be concerned about?

To be sure you understand, in custom settings I have a1 AF-C priority selection set as release, in f2 AE-L and AF-L is set as AF-ON, on c1 the shutter-release button AE-L is set to OFF.

Make sure out of focus release is set to enable. It is the next step after selecting AF-ON only.

Go into the Playback menu. Set the Image Review options.

Looking at the rear of the camera, there is a small button just below and left of hot shoe that sets the function of the screen. Three positions. On all the time, on during review and totally off. Easy to bump and change.

Seems like now days almost anyone with the Photo Shop and all the software on line consider themselves a Photographer. Seems like with all this software anyone with a little computer knowledge can doctor up a print. So many go out claiming to be Wedding and event Photographers then go into a software and make things look good. Would anyone without this software consider themselves a true Photographer? What did you do before all this software?

Perspective. compose. frame and release shutter No spray and spray. Was taught to capture.
