I don't shot with Nikon but this shouldn't matter. switch to manual focus set the f-stop to f/11 and use fast shutter speed (1/250sec), focus on his face play around with the shutter speed and f-stop. Find a happy medium where your shutter speed is high enough to freeze the subject and the f-stop is low enough to maintain focus f/8 to f/16.
good luck

I am using Lightroom classic on my desktop.
All of a sudden my images turn B&W when imported or when I select a folder that I haven't opened since this started. I look at the history file in LR and it shows the file was converted to B&W before I opened it in Develop. I thought I enabled a preset or something. I can change them back by selecting color under the develop module or under quick develop>saved preset>color.

Maybe you should take up golf, or some other hobby. I make photos because I enjoy them. Photoshop and Lightroom are my "darkroom" to turn a photo into a work of art.

I recently purchased the Sony a7R IV. It is a wonderful camera. There are an overwhelming number of setting combinations. I have a rock concert to shoot and I'm looking for a little help with the best setting to get the greatest number of "keepers" I am using a 70-200mm f/2.8 GM lens. I haven't decided if I will shoot APC 1.5 or full frame. I can use a monopod, no tripods. With my Canon full frame with the 70-200 f/4.5-5L lens I would set the ISA: 3200, Shutter: 1/125-500 and aperture: wide open. It's hit and miss at 1/125, better at 1/250 but lots of noise, hand held, in a concert environment. Someone out there must have a winning combination of settings for the Sony. Thanks guys and gals! Personally I would keep the RAW files and delete the jpg. I recently started shooting both RAW&JPG. I have a Sony a7R IV, Large RAW files. I go through the jpg files because they open quicker than the RAW files. A typical shoot is 200-500 shots. I ID the best of the best and delete the rest of the JPG files. With those I can ID the best RAw files to work on. I keep all the RAW files except those I determine are bad, i.e. out of focus, etc. I will create a collection of the RAW files. Remember, you can always take a RAW file and create a JPG. But not the other way around. The RAW files contains all the information of the image. The jpg contains a fraction of that information. If you want to save disk space, delete the JPG files. You can always create another one from the RAW file.

I recently moved to Orange County. I love photographing In the Fall for the long shadows, the change in weather, etc. Where and what is your favorite place to photograph city, beach, landscape, etc, scenes?

Yeah, I have a two HDD NAS drive with two separate network drives and two 8TB HDD, one for my catalog and one for backup. I have so many redundancies built into my setup. I probably have 20TB of open HD space. The hardest part is keeping track of everything.

Thank you for your post. I should add I rented a Canon 5Ds R, for a month. The photos were fantastic. Tack sharp and plenty of room to crop and still have a very nice size after cropping. I usually shot a little wide for just that reason, room to crop.

I have a gray card but find using something in the photo that I know is gray. Mostly I adjust to taste. I photographed a series of concerts to the local paper. The lighting for concerts is terrible. I used the microphone to set the white point for every show. The pictures came out consistent from all nine shows. It didn't matter if the performer was dark complected with a red and yellow spotlight. The white point came out perfect.

I have used Canon for 40+ years. My current camera is the EOS 1DS Mark III. I bought this new and love the camera. I shoot mostly landscapes. My photography today is changing and I need more dynamic range. The Canons maximum ISO is 3200 and there is a lot of noise to deal with. The Sony I have selected is the new Alpha 7R IV. I purchased two lenses, Both G master lenses. The Sony FE 70-200mm f/2.8 GM OSS and the Sony SEL24-70mm GM. I expect the camera around Oct 15. Can someone tell me; am I going to be happy with the Sony? This has left a big hole in the coffers, so to those that use the earlier models of the Alpha 7R series, is there something you couldn't live without for your Sony camera?
PS... I am also looking at the Sony FE 16-35mm f/2.8 GM Wide-angle Zoom. Is this a good choice or is there something else I overlooked.
I respect everyone's opinion here. Canon users, please don't lambast me and tell me I have made a big mistake. The deed is done, I'm switching to Sony.
