I just attended an information session presented at Plano Photography Club where the presenter was clearly an expert in this area. One key statement he made and repeated was that the total eclipse period is a little over 4 minutes. I understood that at that time you do not need any filters as the sun will be blocked out except for the light from solar flares that might be visible. At any other time, you need the very dark filter as mentioned in the other responses. The trick is that you need to be able to remove the filter for that period otherwise you will not get a usable image.

The rest of the time the filter should be fine. He also recommended keeping good quality eclipse specific glasses (the paper frames are fine but make sure the lenses are current (usually just purpose cut piece of ISO12312-2 filters and not a huge expense) - there is also a warning that these eyeglass versions should be less than 3 years old as their protective capabilities decline with age.

If you haven't already got the eyeglasses, get them soon as I have seen reports that stocks are running low, prices are rising and there could be some inadequate versions becoming available.

50 minutes later problem fixed! The issue started with the update of Photoshop yesterday. Adobe narrowed it down to an update of my graphics card GeForce. LR crashed when I tried to start it. Adobe updated the driver and tracked down the locked Catalog - Almost had heart failure when he clicked on a backup from 2018 - I called it in time so he resorted the list of backups and got to most recent.

Overall, a huge Thank You to Adobe. Also thank you to rcarol.

After updating PS yesterday I went to LRC to open an image I wanted to play with the new features of PS.
Clicked the LrC icon and the spinning blue symbol appeared for a couple of seconds then stopped - no Lightroom.
After trying multiple times to open LrC. I shut down PC.

Restarted PC this morning. LRC icon still there - same happened.

Uninstalled LrC
Checked Control Panel>Programs>Programs and Features and LrC not visible.

Reinstalled LrC. Both times the installed version of LrC is 12.3

Tried to open LrC. Same problem. Tried the Adobe help system - no success.

Tried a right click on the LrC icon - Showed "Recent " starting with Lightroom Catalogues v 12.3 and about 10 older versions, then the LrC icon.

Any suggestions ?

Looks to me like those old "count the mistakes cartoon" -Way more fingers and arms and hands that might be real.
Two extra much younger legs and someone's arm has skin that looks identical to the lady's brown dress material. One of her hands appears to be grown out of the other hand which must make getting around and changing clothes a real challenge. At 80, that age is often a challenge by itself without these complications. The spare sunglasses when already wearing sunglasses is an interesting fashion statement.
Having said all this, I would like to hear some comments from the subjects, and hope they get something to smile about.

I have used the RF14-35 for about a year (got it as soon as it came out. Primary use has been house real estate images. I really like it. Also starting to use for landscape and natural flowers/vegetation. Without the lens correction in LR Classic it was quite distorted, but with the correction available and applied on import it works really well.

Last time was there I used a 24-105. Now I have a Canon R and the 24-240 would be my first pick, but would also take a 14-35 or similar.

I found I took more images of bush areas and individual bird/ animals were <10%.

Just in case, make sure you bring some form of waterproof covers for you and the camera unless it is an exceptionally good day in Wellington.

Enjoy your time there.

We did a Viking cruise in July 2022 Budapest to Amsterdam. After 3-4 days I realized that I was using a Canon R with the 24-240 lens for less than 10% of images and by the end of the cruise (14 days) I was using my iPhone Pro Max for the rest - shooting in Raw if the lighting was tough, such as in castles. If I was in an area where I was concerned about theft, I only carried the iPhone. Also only iPhone when out at night.

I was disappointed by the ability to get good images of castles from the boat ( the castles are built on high ground and the view from below is not ideal) - check out what the cruise line images are for info on angles used and then work out how many could be taken from the cruise ship.

Also, you may find that the ability to get onto the villages etc is often not possible in the evenings because the ship doesn't stop overnight every night.

Despite these issues and problems created by low water levels, we had a great time and will do it again in a few years.

Seems this could be used by asking participants to insert keywords into Question - e.g. Travel. birds, birds in flight, Everglades. The search button on UHH seems to work ok (it found Birds in flight" without a problem.
Of course, it needs posters to ensure they include relevant text in the title of their post e.g. "I have a problem" is of no use, but changing to something like "Problem -my XXX body broke, needs repair, Any suggestions on where I can get it fixed?" Probably some better examples but should provide enough info for interested person click and post advice, or any owner of XXXX camera could search using "XXXX, broken body, repair" should get hits from many parts of UHH.

Check out https://www.photoimagesbycarl.net/ Incredible photographer and teacher - when he built his house he included a large studio and it has only one wall of glass - a lot of glass. The other walls are white. He uses many modifiers to direct/shield the sunlight light. His books with images of set-ups for his photos has some great ideas on what could be done.

The backlighting is great! Sets the image apart from those without foreground interest.

Thanks for the response - very helpful.

So, I got the RF800 registered, went back to the Canon site and thought I'd make sure I had registered other Canon products. Tried to register my RF 14035 l lens (This is incredibly good lens and when it finally arrived and when Adobe eventually set up a standard lens correction, I have been very pleased with the results - minimal distortion at 14, very sharp.) - but Canon Product Registration doesn't allow me to register it - Doesn't appear in the pick list - so I go to Support page, but to get support I need to have the lens registered. Went back to main page and did find the lens available for sale on the site.

Anyone else having this issue?

Thanks. I tried your link but that didn't work for me. However, I noticed the web address and tried it. www.usa.canon.com
This then took me to https://myprofile.americas.canon.com/us/addProduct and I was able to register the lens.

Your help is much appreciated.
