Planning to take the CAT from Bar Harbor to Yarmouth Nova Scotia in later May/ early June. Going to be driving around in NS. Will be there for 5 (five) days only . What are the places to go ? Is PEI and Halifax around driving range and can it all be done in just 5 days ? Taking my R5, 100-500, RF800, 100 RF Macro, 5DIV, 16-35 f4. Interested in photographing birds, nature and landscapes like coastal sceneries. Also let me know places where to stay and food joints. Thank you.

Halifax is approximately 3 hours from Yarmouth, where the Cat docks, that's if you stay on the main highway. My favourite restaurant in Yarmouth is Rudders.

There are some interesting side trips on the way there; Shelburne is another not so well know historic town and the location setting for a new Disney movie this summer (Washington Black). Also Carters Beach in Port Mouton is stunning (see pic, taken in mid Summer), although it might be a little early in the season. Once past Liverpool, I suggest turning off the main highway towards Voglers Cove and follow the road along the coast although the first 10-15 miles there is not much to see.

Lunenburg has been mentioned and I've included a panorama I took last October (it is also where I happen to currently live). From there follow the coast to Halifax and it will take you through some amazing villages and hamlets, including Peggy's Cove. Lunenburg has a number of places; Fish Factory, Grand Banker (I recommend), Salt Shaker Deli and the Knot Pub. In nearby Mahone Bay, they have the Mug and Anchor and a new one recently opened and finally in the Village of Chester, the is the Fo'c'sle Tavern, the oldest pub in Nova Scotia.

Plan to spend a day around Halifax, the downtown has some point of interest, not to mention great restaurants. My favourite is the Henry House, located in the actual home of one of our Father's of Confederation.

I'm not all that familiar with Cape Breton although it is a long drive. The Cabot Trail has some of the best scenery in NS, plus there is the Fortress Louisbourg Historic Site. As an alternative, I recommend the Annapolis Valley, the area around Wolfville and Grand Pre is home to some amazing wineries. In fact the land was once covered in water and salt water marshes, reclaimed in the 1700's by the Acadian farmers. Grand Pre was one of the staging areas for the Grand Expulsion, when the British sent the Acadians away (many settled in Louisiana) in 1755. If you are not familiar, search the internet for the story of Evangeline.

These are just a few suggestions, but my final one is try not to do too much or you won't get to see and enjoy it. Not in 5 days. Yarmouth - Halifax - Annapolis Valley (extending to Digby and returning to Yartmouth via the French Shore) is a nice loop that you can do in 5 days and see plenty. If you haven't already, check out the government's tourism site: https://www.novascotia.com/things-to-do/attractions?f=lCsVht6Uf2

Night 1: Lunenburg
Night 2: Halifax
Night 3: Wolfville
Night 4: Digby

Good luck and enjoy your stay! If you have any questions, I think you can message me through this site.

My wife and I went paddling around Lunenburg harbour on Sunday. We just purchased the kayak (it's a tandem) at the start of the summer and still getting used to it. This is the first time I took my camera with me and it went well. At least I didn't drop it overboard. It was supposed to be hot and sunny but once we hit the water, clouds moved in which was good because it kept the temperature down but not so good for picture taking. Thought I would share a couple since I've been absent for awhile.

When, in PS, you selected, did you choose Edit\Fill\Content Aware? I've had incredible luck cloning out unwanted stuff with Content-Aware Fill.

I did. When I try to remove the people in the back though, the trees and bushes start blending into the roadway to the point it no longer looks natural. Almost all of the other photos have had people or objects edited out of them but for some reason that one just doesn't cooperate.

I'm also using PS 5.1 so that may also be part of the problem. I have heard the editing feature is a little more intuitive in PS 6.

Great shots. The North Antrim coast or 'Causeway Route' should be on everyone's itinerary of Ireland. I hope you got to see the Giant's Causeway, the Rope Bridge and Bushmills Distillery on your trip.

We did stop at the Giant's Causeway be it not the distillery (drove past it!) or the rope bridge. You can see the rope bridge in the background of the picture taken at the quarry.

Nice images. You could, in Photoshop easily clone out the walkers on the path to create a unique image. Just sayin.

I tried that but it created unwanted artifacts for the people farthest away and my wife wanted me to keep the couple in the foreground.

While in Ireland last September, my wife and I went on a tour of set locations used on the Game of Thrones. The ones we visited are located in County Antrim in Northern Ireland. The day started poorly with rain, drizzle and generally poor lighting, but being on a tour you can't really pick and choose the optimal time for photography. I cleaned these ones up as bests I could and I doubt I will be selling them, but they sure make nice memories.

Dunluce Castle - Better known as Pyke Castle, home of the Greyjoys of the Iron Islands. It looks a little different without the CGI effects

Ballintoy Harbour and surrounding countryside - Easily recognizable as the main port of the Iron Islands, when Theon returns and meets his sister for a memorable homecoming. Season 2 - Episode 2

Larrybane Quarry - Renly Baratheon's camp from Season 2 - Episode3 (we meet Breanne of Tarth). Actual quarry is off to the right, but filled with people and wasn't really all that photogenic. But the coastline was.

Finally The Dark Hedges - at the very end of Season 2 - Episode 1, Arya is escaping King's Landing with Gendry Baratheon on the back of a cart. We were told it was the only time this location was used for filming but has become one of the most photographed places in Northern Ireland.

Your first shot is a decent souvenir shot. Your second one is a really-good Street shot IMHO. Nice composition, and the colors really emphasize the mood. And the guy in the grey outfit is a great subject and foil for the entire scene. Good work.

Thanks for the feedback! The second one is also one of my favourites from the trip. Usually my handheld, night-time shots are blurry but I am very pleased with this one.

My wife and I visited Dublin (my first time, she had been there previously) to celebrate my turning 60. These two shots taken in the Temple Bar area of the city.

This was my first attempt at photo-merging to HDR from 2008 and I was still very much a noobie with Digital SLR's.

The subject is known as 'the Three Sisters' located in Canmore, Alberta.

Canmore is located just outside the gate to Banff National Park.

This is an interesting forum. I started converting some of my photos to HDR about 10 years ago (or more). I am not a fan of overcooked images but I feel that for some images, a definite improvement is possible.

As always I start with a version of Capture NX (NX2 for images from the D800, NX-D for images from the 750) to do basic pre-processing. I correct WB, crop or straighten the image and remove dust spots before creating four copies at ±2ev and ± 1ev. I save all the files in TIFF format at 16 bit.

I use HDR Efex Pro 2 from the Nik Collection for merging the five images into a single HDR image. The nice thing about the Nik Collection is that they can either be used as plug-ins for PS/LR or as standalone application. Most of the time though, I use them with PS so I can re-edit if I need to.

Here are some pictures I took while visiting the town of Brescia in Northern Italy a few years ago. As I mention, I am not a fan of the overcooked look, I really try to make the final image as realistic as possible. I was supposed to visit there again in April, but that didn't happen for obvious reasons.

My first post is of a couple of Victorian inns. Here is to hoping the owners will be able to salvage something of the summer.

I was just about to edit the posting because I realized I left out that bit of information! My wife and I make our home in Lunenburg, Nova Scotia and I will be posting some from this area, for sure!

Hey there. I joined the site a while ago and enjoy browsing through the posts but have been too busy to post any of my own. But now that I seem to have some time on my hands I thought I would become more active.

I've been dabbling in photography forever it seems, starting with a Konica SLR that I purchased with my first real pay cheque over 40 years ago. I'm a big fan of Nikon and currently I shoot primarily with a D800 and D750 as backup (semi-permanent loan from my daughter but that is another story...). Lenses include Nikon's 24-70 f2.8, 70-200 f4, 24-120 f4 and a Sigma fixed 50 mm @ f1.8. Preference is landscapes, streetscapes and architecture but would really like to try portraiture. I use Capture NX to pre-process images (dust removal, WB correction, straightening, cropping, etc), PS 5.1/LR 4 for everything post.

I could go on but I think I bored you all enough!
