I'm a Nikkor F mount guy myself. Ran across these recently & thought this might be a good use for my old F mounts one day . . .

Canon people really don't care. The most important part of a camera is the sensor and Sony makes theirs. One of Canon's selling points have always been their glass and the RF mount are some of the best. Nikon is probably closing their Japan plants to save money. That being said, any Nikon shooter who doesn't acknowledge that they are in a dire financial situation is just keeping their head in the sand. Nikon continues to lose big dollars in their camera division which can be seen by the pace of their R&D compared to Sony and Canon. They do not have the revenue from other businesses to cover their costs like Canon and Sony. The whole industry has been in decline for 10+ years but their market share has continued to drop faster due to phones. While they can stick around for a few more years, they will need a cash influx for long term viability. With the camera market in decline what is the chance that the big bucks show up?

People keep saying Nikon is losing money. Is that really so or is Nikon actually not selling as much as in the past?

Thailand is not China.

For a long time now, Japanese made products have focused on world-class quality only. From what I can tell, this was a conscious, deliberate move on the part of the Japanese & I believe it has worked well for them. Forexample, Miroku Corporation is a Japanese gun manufacturer & their own models, as well as the Browning and Winchester models, among others, that have been produced there have been famously world class. Most or all Japanese manufacturers make only their best quality, flagship models in Japan while their lesser models are outsourced usually elsewhere in Asia.

But there really is no reason I can see why Japanese designed cameras can't be assembled outside of Japan to the same world class standards as in Japan, provided the cameras, lenses, accessories, etc. themselves continue to be of the very best design to begin with & sufficient quality control measures are introduced, followed, & rigorously enforced. I admit it is at least unfortunate that outsourcing Nikon's best cameras sends a horrible signal, & this will be very hard to overcome.

All of the Japanese camera makers have been badly hurt by smart phone cameras that continue to advance in quality & features w/each new model. This destructive technology has devastated the world's camera industry overall & will continue to eat into all of the manufacturers' sales & not only the Japanese brands. All that will be left of today's camera manufacturers will be selling professional cameras & lenses as well as some other optics lines & if Nikon's gambit works, the other manufacturers will outsource production, too.

I also use the SB-700 and find it a very good & easily managed flash. Also own two SB-400s, one of which I use on my backup camera & the other my wife uses on her D-3300. I can recommend both. In general, I believe Nikon flashes will work best on Nikon cameras because Nikon unwisely, I believe, does not share either their flash/I-TTL specs or lens specs w/OEM manufacturers. I believe @ least for their DSLR lines, they should do so as they are now pretty clearly targeting upper end mirrorless markets and I believe allowing OEMs to produce great & clearly compatible flashes and lenses would actually help Nikon sell camera bodies.

Long ago my Nikon D80 shutter required replacing; understand it was a common malady of that particular model Nikon. Don't know how many shutter actuations when the problem developed. Indication was the dreaded "ER" message. I sent it off to Nikon who repaired it quickly & inexpensively. No problems since & still use the camera occassionally.

Another green car color, this time American. Highland Green was the color of the Mustang GT driven by Steve McQueen in the movie "Bullitt". I like that movie & I like that color of green.

The "MC" probably means "Multi-Coated"...

In Minolta speak, an MC lens stands for "meter coupled". Looks like a later, autofocus lens to me but I have never seen one like that specific one. Yet the lens overall design looks like other Minolta autofocus lenses.

Not what you're looking for but in the case of jpegs, the photographer sets up the camera in order to create the images s/he desires in the same manner as the photographer who post processes. In either case it's the photographer who is in charge, not the camera or the computer/software.

It is exactly the opposite. Today’s youth have to have a camera with them at all times. Their cell phones have provided them with the ability to do this. Older generations did not have this opportunity. And so today we have more people interested in photography than ever before; by a huge margin. Yes, cell phones limit them in some ways; but we have all been limited by our cameras. They work with what they have and they are addicted to what they have. Most of today’s youth get their first cell phone/camera when are 12-14. How many of us had this opportunity to take almost unlimited photos at this age?

Some of the early Minolta MC & MD lens coating were problematic. I found this on "The Rokkor Files" site.

"The quality of the coatings on these lenses (early MC & MD) is as a general rule not as good as those on later MC and MD lenses, and in some cases radioactive compounds of thorium and lanthanum were added to the glass mixture to increase the refractive index. This is apparent in some of the faster lenses such as the 58mm f/1.2 and 85mm f/1.7, where some early versions that included this glass have had their radioactive ingredients progressively decay, discolouring the glass, and giving the images taken with the affected lenses a very warm cast."

Most describe the discoloration as "yellowing". I have one such lens & viewing through it there is a noticeable yellow cast as are the photos taken w/that particular lens. It's a very nice lens otherwise, but is unusable to me in its current state.

I have come to believe videography will supplant photography. From the video one can capture any image to make a photograph if desired.

I have noticed a growing number of well executed & powerful videos lately that are really very moving.

"if 3rd party glass cost the same or greater than the camera manufacture glass, which lens would most folks pick, the 3rd party glass or the camera company glass?"

I believe they would purchases the best lens regardless of brand name.

Another point. It's pretty obvious that often the camera body manufacturers decide not to produce lenses we need. Who knows why for certain, maybe they anticipate insufficient volume would be sold, they need to allocate RDTE resources elsewhere, etc. At least for those lenses, why not encourage the lens manufacturers to make them & to share information to help them do so. Everybody wins IMO.

And why should Canon,Nikon, Sony share their information with other companies.!!!!!!

Let Tamron, Sigma create lens for their own camera’s.

People buy these lenses for three main reasons, I believe. One, they are often less expensive. Two, they are better lenses than are comparable lenses made by the camera body manufacturers. And three, these particular lenses are not made by the camera body manufacturers in the desired focal length(s) and/or having the desired features.

Photographic manufacturers would all be better off if they would take a collaborative approach.

I believe Canikon & Sony would be better off sharing their information with the lens manufacturers and that doing so would be better for everyone - the camera body makers, the lens makers, and we consumers. The manufacturers would sell more of everything and we consumers would buy more of everything and we would have greater satisfaction with our photographic equipment.

One month ago I successfully had my 1982-purchased & dearly beloved Minolta X-700 fully serviced by Gary's Camera Repair for $60.00 plus shipping. Everything worked out very well and I am well satisfied. Here's the link, but under Gary's repair list (left @ Home Screen), I don't find Mamiya listed; you might email to inquire as I found Gary very responsive & candid.

http://www.garryscamera.com/

I also entered "Mamiya camera repair" on my search engine & found many interesting links, among them this company that does claim to service Mimiyas & other brands.

https://www.precisioncameraworks.com/mamiya

Others here have offered great alternative suggestions, but if one plans to use a camera of this vintage, I believe a thorough going over, cleaning, gasket replacing, & lubrication is a good idea & I also believe this might best be done by someone knowledgeable, experienced, & w/access to replacement parts (likely only cannibalized used parts will be available) if needed.

Good luck & I hope you have as much fun as I am having using my old 35mm camera!
