With fully charged battery and a SDXC card with plenty of space, I'm getting a symbol (below Aperture) on the Control Panel that doesn't appear in the D7500 Manual, p.8, and the camera will not fire. Does anyone know what this is and how to fix it?
Maybe you have focus priority on the shutter release, and the lens is not focusing properly?

Sounds like the bluetooth symbol is what the OP thought the problem is or was, but in truth it has nothing to do with it not firing. I like the response from chulster. It's not focusing and in the setup menu if you have focus priority set, then the shutter will not fire. Change that setting to release or shutter priority. Nikon may call it something else. The OP needs to read the book over and over again and get more familiar with all the menu choices.

But why not fire?
Guessing but perhaps blue tooth was turned on, it could not connect, & therefore D7500 won't fire?

First, disable bluetooth? Then, start from scratch
Thank you all! I think you've resolved the "Bluetooth symbol" issue; and you've given me several places to start troubleshooting from.
Is this the 70-200 lens with a switch on the lens to put into manual focus? Is so, and you bumped the switch ever so slightly, and the camera is set to focus priority, I think it will not fire. Easy to do, and will still look right on the lens barrel. Switch it to M mad back to A, and it might solve this.
Try turning airplane mode on. See if it goes away
Another cause of not firing is the camera is set to look for a signal from the remote. It happened to me. I was using the remote on tripod and didn't turn the dial back when I was done. The next time I picked up the camera it wouldn't fire.
