E-mail the Alaska state tourism office and get their brochures. In Anchorage you'll need a car to see the nearby sites. Locals often refer it as the closest city to Alaska.Anchorage weather in Sept is not as bad as some said There should be fireweed around and some snow on the mountains (termination dust) but none at ground level. You can see what's left of a couple of glaciers within 30 miles N or S. Some of the best views of Denali could be from the restaurant on the west side of town or from Talkeetna( about 75 miles N) The drive to Seward is dandy. I doubt you'll have enough time to get to Homer and have king crab legs at lands End. Have fun

You'll spend the whole week in the car if you plan on driving both ways. The entire route 101 is scenic. Unhappily it's tourist season so driving will be slowed by other site seers. Others have mentioned specifics but send for the OR tourist info covering the area.

Did a search and didn’t see anything. For mac users only please. I just pulled the trigger and purchased a new M1 Mac Mini with 16GB ram. I've been using a mid-2011 27" iMac since 2011. It only went to High Sierra and doesn’t have ML Graphics so more and more apps don’t work on it. I'd hoped to use the screen as my monitor for the mini but Apple stopped supporting that.

So I am researching monitors that I can AFFORD. I shoot full frame 27MB images.

So my questions:
1. Do I need 4k or can I go with 2K like my iMac monitor?
2. Do I need a monitor that supports Thunderbolt or just HDMI 2.0 (those are the specs for the mini).
3. I'd like a 27" because I have a sunscreen for that size already but is there an advantage of a 32" for photography?
4. Any real life suggestions (meaning you own it).

Remember cost is a factor - I'd like to be able to own a $1,600 BenQ but way out of my budget which is more like $400 at the top in.

Thanks in advance,

Ed

My S.O. has an A6000 and has just added- per advice on this site- a Sony 350mm telephoto. Now between swapping lenses constantly- a macro for flowers and bugs, a "regular" for vistas, and the tele for birds and long shots, she's thinking another body would be nice. So, used A6000s are available as are A6500s. I read here that the A6500's stabilization is improved which would be nice with the tele. But the probably most important question is the difference in learning curves between the 2. IE. would she have to do a bunch of rethinking if swapping between an A6000 and an A6500? She is enthusiastic but has yet acquainted herself with all of the features of the A6000.

My favorite Sony A6000 user "needs" more telephoto Both Sony 70- 350 F4.5- 6.3, and Sigma 100-400 F5-6.3 (with adapter) are similarly priced.

Looking for more telephoto W/o breaking the bank. I wandered through B&H's site and found a Sigma 100-400 with an adapter for about half the cost of a genuine Sony lens. Any experience with Sigma or using adapters with the camera?

Write or e-mail the Alaska tourism office. They have great tourism publications. From Wrangell St Elias you might take the road down to Valdez. Valdez isn't that attractive but you can take the ferry from there to Whittier passing the Columbia Glacier. When I was there you drove off the ferry, they put you and your car on a train and dropped you off on the Seward Hwy. From there you could head to Seward or back to Anchorage avoiding a return trip to Anchorage on the Glenn Hwy. Since you said time wasn't a problem... When in Seward a side trip to homer and its spit are available. Some of the best views of Denali are from Anchorage or Talkeetna. I can't think of a good reason to drive to Fairbanks.
Have a great time

Thank you for all the suggestions which could have helped but.. I've been asking on behalf of my girlfriend who is a bit tech shy. She is using Lightroom 6. She attended a class and gets how to use it enough. She's afraid to update for fear of not understanding the newer version.
Is the newer version so much different to cause some understanding problems? Are there good sites for learning in case I can convince her to change? Though it looks as if she could simply ask @HH again if she's having questions.
Thanks again

Please excuse if this seems obvious.
O.k. take card from Sony a6000- insert in laptop with lightroom, click on "import". Pictures show up along with a new folder containing the pictures.
Take card from Sony HX400v, insert in same laptop, pictures show up but no new folder. Remove card pix go away- no new folder. Are the pictures being stored someplace else? Or, how do I get them into a folder"

Try to get to the Giants Causway as early as possible to beat the tour buses. The Cliffs of Mohrer are a huge tourist place. A local (All of whom were very friendly and provided good suggestions on everything from restaurants to sights) suggested we see the cliffs of Slieve which are taller and more rugged than Mohrer but less tour bus friendly. If you like salmon- it's inexpensive and very fresh. Most Irish beers are low alcohol. Have a great trip.
