Looking for more telephoto W/o breaking the bank. I wandered through B&H's site and found a Sigma 100-400 with an adapter for about half the cost of a genuine Sony lens. Any experience with Sigma or using adapters with the camera?

Also look at the Tamron 100-400 with tripod collar. Also, look at the Canon 70-300 IS II, and the Canon 400 5.6 prime.

If you can manually focus, I would be looking at the Nikon 400mm ED IF AIS - about $300 - 350 with a dumb adapter.

Be aware, the A6000 does not focus great with the Sigma adapter. The A6400 - yes.

I use the Tamron 18-200mm (from KEH) and a Meike 6.5mm fish eye, in addition to the standard Sony 16.50mm.

I have that exact setup (a6000, MC—11 and Sigma 100-400). The lens can be very sharp if everything is right. I have quit shooting bursts, on quick moving subjects, on the high setting because it does not focus fast enough but set on slow it does much better. Since I don’t have the Sony 100-400 nor a newer camera I can’t compare, but for the money I’m very happy with it. I did buy a third party tripod collar for about $50 which looks and works great.
I should mention that I just got a super deal on the Sony 70-350 (should be here on Wed.) to try to pick up the missing fast focus (I shoot a lot of air shows). I will make a test run, with both lenses side by side, to see if it’s any better and let you know if you can wait about a week.

I went the MC-11 route with a Sigma lens and was very displeased with the lack of auto focus. I am still seeking a long lens to be used with the A6000 and await evaluation by Lknack or anyone else.

You may want to consider upgrading the camera to a6500 (for example). One of the reasons I sold my a6000 and got the a6500 was that legacy lens use was really no good on the 6000 but is fairly good on all the models above that, with various adapters. I have a dumb Nikon adapter and both Sony A to E adapters. The LA-EA4 works OK with, for example, my two "Minolta" mount lenses. One is a 50mm Macro and the other is a 500mm mirror lens.

I would add that my Sigma 30 mm 2.8 for E mount works very well on my a6500 because both kinds of focusing (contrast and phase detect).

Some of the other a6xxx models are also very good but I think only the 6500 has in-body stabilization that helps with lenses that don't have it themselves and that even include my Sigma 30.

I have a (now old) NEX 7, with which I use the FE 70-300, 4.5-5.6. It works well, and, if you should choose in the future to go to full frame, of course, it works fine. And on the NEX 7, an early iteration of the 24 MP format, it works fine and produces an equivalent of 105-450mm. It has been out for a while, such that, if desired, you could find a used one.

The Sony FE200-600mm works very well with my A6000, A6100, A7S and A7 III... However, it probably breaks your bank!?

As for automatic EOS->E-mount adapters. I have Metabones III & IV, a Commlite, a Fotodiox, a Sigma MC-11 and King adapters. Of all the ones I've tried, the MC-11 has been the most consistent. All work well with Canon lenses but some are not all that great with 3rd party Canon EF mount lenses.

I have used the Sigma MC-11 with the Sigma 150-600mm Canon mount on my a6000 without any problems. I have the older A-mount Minolta 70-300mm lens with LA-EA4 Sony adapter. It also works fine. The older Minolta 70-300mm lenses are dirt cheep on the used market.

Do you do lower light or faster action shots as a rule ??

I was using the 150-600mm mostly for birds. Bald eagles and Red Tail Hawks primarily. Then the a7iii came out and it was much superior to the a6000 on focusing. I found the LA-EA4 or LA-EA3 worked focus faster than the Sigma MC-11. Note: I have a student that has Canon lenses with Metabones adapter for her lens on her Sony a7Rii. She has found that the Sigma MC-11 works much better than the Metabones adapter.
