Connect a new external hard drive and redirect LR to it.

I would suggest too:
Start a new catalog. Save the old one and back it up. Use it to access those images but start a new CAT so saving and backing up on closing is faster.

Actually the SRT-101 is one that is affected by battery voltage different from its recommended 1.35V mercury battery.

It would be advisable in any equipment to use the correct battery voltages. With so many different batteries these days it would be easy to find one greater than 1.6V in a similar case.

I have some film cameras which have an integrated exposure meter. Some can not be set manually. In finding batteries for them, I wondered how the voltage affects the meter reading. If a replacement battery has too low a voltage, how does that affect the exposure? Or if the voltage is too high?

In my Minolta SR101, years ago, the cam had a battery indicator as well.
Metering circuits are not voltage dependent in that, as the battery looses voltage, the circuitry has regulators so the meter operates within a fixed range down from full voltage of the battery. However as it gets low enough the metering will eventually be affected. If there is no battery check button then i give the battery two years to be safe then just change it. Today's cams are so well regulated we can wait till the battery is almost dead then swap it our because everything is affected by low batterer.

If it is a friend, send them what they want.

If it's a acquaintance tell him what you charge.

I agree here.
If an acquaintance, you agreed
to shoot the wedding and deliver images. They didn’t pay for the raw files, didn’t pay for anything.
You still own the rights to originals.
Charge them! Even if a token fee.
But friends or family?
I’d give them everything and stay clear of a situation like that ever again.

Ok how do I do that? Also I just checked the help tab and it says I am not running the current update.

I went to update and learned that the latest version, with Sky stuff, is V22.0 and ONLY for Windows 10. Im still on 7 so will need to wait a while yet.

Most cameras can adjust white balance fairly well but this tip will set your white balance under existing challenging lighting conditions of any kind allowing you to shoot at any subject under that lighting and maintain the same color for each shot. If your Auto White Balance isn't quite doing the job, consider this. Cameras adjust white balance every time you point the camera & trip the shutter. This tip will lock that color value so no subject will change the color value as your shooting. As a pro I carried the Expo Disk to allow me to set a custom white balance for all the different lighting conditions I shot under. I wanted each shot to maintain color balance. This type of pro device cost me $69 but not everyone wants to spend money. What also works is the plastic lid off of a butter tin. By shooting thru the lid or the expo disk, you create an image of 18% neutral gray which is what the camera feels is ideal color. This image will have a neutral gray filter pack set. Shooting at a scene doesn't always create that ideal color so using this technique allows us to lock the color value under our current lighting by using Custom White Balance. You will have to read your manual to find the steps to select this feature. It will ask you for an image on your card that represents a custom balance, choose that 18% image you shot thru the lid. At that point you can move around and shoot at anything under that lighting and come up with consistent color in all your images. What also works is a clean white tee shirt, white wall, white cardboard, they all produce the same 18% neutral gray image so don't get hung up on just using one technique. I just mentioned the butter lid because it is easy to stick in your bag for when you need to use it in a challenging lighting situation. PS that larger lid will fit virtually any glass you put on your camera. One size fits all.

Its nice that cameras give the option to set an image as a reference in creamer, however:
A color Checker Passport, in my opinion, gives far more options and its a quick one shot capture for both WB and a profile for that shoot or that part of a shoot when importing to LR for processing.
One can quickly use it for any lighting changes through a shoot as lighting conditions vary.

The Profile is always there to go back to.

Paul (chgcanon) and Joe (ysarex) sum it up perfectly. Both use raw, both are comfortable with the process and both understand the benefits of shooting raw.

Personally, I have been shooting raw exclusively since 2006. The benefits were clear back then, and even more so today with the improvements in cameras and raw converters. For 98%of the photographers out there jpeg offers no advantage at all from an image quality point of view.

One more note to add here:
In PS we can work with the RAW file and print from RAW right to our Canon Pro printer using the driver that exports the 16 bit depth and does not convert to jpg to print.

I’m an amateur. I have no aspirations of self glory or making money through photography, though I admire those who can.

I just terminated my LR/PS subscription after 5+ years. Why?....because I stopped lying to myself that I would ever become proficient at PS (which I never used after trying to wrap my head around it and watching dozens of tutorials). I was reasonably competent with the LR tools I used, but never developed proficiency in many of them.

The bottom line for me is that programs such as Luminar have a place in my toolkit. Rather than beating myself up for not mastering LR/PS I can push a few buttons here and there and, for the most part, achieve something that suits my needs all while creating time for pursuing other, equally important hobbies.

Works for me.

Yes a tool kit asset, not a one tool to do it all.
I am a Lightroom in Photoshop 10 year user, a pro/amateur😏. Enjoy and love learning these. Also appreciate the variety Luminar offers even in its imperfect and state.
By the way, does anyone remember windows 3.0 3.2? None of that was ever released perfect.

planning to get a Windows laptop for use with PS/LR.. either 16gb or 32gb?

At present I am using macbook pro with 16gb RAM.

Ram is so cotten-picken cheap these days, to not get the max the PC can use is to cut ourselves short on performance for a few bucks.
I just bought 16 gig, two 8 gig cards for $84 ($42 ea) for my Dell.
My be more cost effective to buy after you get the unit and install your self.

Thanks in advanve

I use a light weave muslin, Gray as close to 18% as the eye can tell. There are three options with lighting.
White, gray and black backgrounds with gradients as you work the lighting.
Wrinkles fade in a few minutes as you hang it and a light mist spraying.

I'm in the market for external SSD drives, to save and backup my photos.
I believe I already know the answer to my own question, but would like the opinions of others.
Should I get a larger SSD, say a 2 or 3 terabyte, or go with a few smaller ones, say 500 gigs. My reasoning for the smaller ones is that if something should go wrong with the drive, I'd only loose some of my work, apposed to loosing most or all of it, if it was put into a larger drive.
I know these drives are reliable and don't usually crash, but things happen.
What the consensus here?

Many good ideas! One more here.
Two 4T drives (or 8T), spinning disks in a RAID1 box. Very affordable and extremely safe ie excellent back up.
