I bought one of those generic store branded zooms from Kit's Camera when I was a teen back in the late 70's for use with my Pentax MX. I think it was around $300 which would be about (according to google) $1400 today! I remember being very pleased with the photos I took with it.

I've bought grey and have never had any problems. Buying grey is a risk, but it's one I've been willing to take, and had saved me quite a bit of money. Your "mileage" may vary.

Nice! I'm still waiting for the ones I usually see to return. It's still too cold here (Spokane area) I guess.

I can't imagine how a card reader is going to damage the pins inside the camera.

It is if you're rich and need to impress your other rich acquaintances. Personally I like the f/1.4 so much I've two of them.

Bought a Fujifilm xt5 and had a couple of issues with it, mostly a focus problem I bought this from Abes and after 2 e-mails I contacted them by phone and explained the problems, was told I would be contacted by a tech. So far 3 days and no contact from them. Poor customer service. Anyone else have issues with this company?

I'd rate them right up there with another Popular Photography regular Cambridge camera. In other words, caveat emptor!

(I do kind of miss looking at those old ads!)

Agree 💯. I have an r6 but the lack of a true live view just isn't the same.

Other than $, nothing to do with cameras but mention of the vcr made me smile. Bought my first vcr in 1983 and paid $550 (RCA). The remote had a 20 foot long wire and cost an additional $50.

That made me remember my first VCR. It too was priced in the $500 range from Mongomery Ward. It came with that wired "remote" that was really only a pause button!

My first real camera was a Petri V6; I bought it in 1973, when I was in the Army. Unfortunately it was stolen in 1974. I then bought a the Petri FT2, with a through the lens light meter. I had that for a good number of years; it finally bit the dust and, as Petri Camera Company went out of business, I could not repair it. My first digital camera was a Nikon D40; I still have it and use it, with my 55-200 lens, with close up filters for macro work.

As a teen, I had a Kmart Focal TLR - a rebranded Petri. I remember a friend making fun of its name, TLR since it's obviously NOT a TLR, but whatever. I still had great fun with that camera.

I've had success with the sides of a plastic Milk Jug, cut to fit.

Cool idea! I never thought of that. Thanks!
