Many of the issued that need improvement has to do with CAMERA POSITION.

In out-of-doors environmental portraits, background management must be considered.
As for white balance and skin tone. The late afternoon light is warm and more controllable as to direction It, however, can be too warm

Thank you E.L. your critique was one I was looking/hoping for.
Thank you for not advising me to sell my camera and take up finger painting. :)

The yellow. Obviously I need a better monitor for post work, its negligible on my laptop

Custom WB, I had two volunteer models one in white, one in dark navy, and a setting sun.
I just didnt think I was up to chasing that as well as chasing lights

Many of the critique is camera position. The same things I noticed post shoot.
*Remember 2nd attempt at portrait lighting.
Experience and practice...

I like your example, its actually 3 light sources. CR natural sun, CL/hair kick, and CF fill.

My original intent when I set this shoot up was just to experiment with adding a second light to this type of shoot. There are dozens of vids showing the front fill light on night landscape.
I thought I could do it better..
What started as a simple 2-3 person TFP experiment shoot turned into a 12 person 2 model workshop.

Thank you again.
One of these days I'll get a
"Damn fine job! I wouldn't change a thing" from you.

Thank you all!!

Regards to the notes.
1. She was shorter than expected. And I agree with the horizontal line behind her occasionally being a distraction.
There was a small hill behind us that probably might have worked better..
2 Eye color is contacts.
3. Skin tones, one of those I was manually adjusting in post, wanted to cancel out some of the white from the flash and better blend with the natural light.
4. I was using the beauty dish to illuminate her hair, worked better on some shots than others.

Finally got time to try another portrait shoot.

Gear used:
D500, Tamron 24-70mm, AD200/V860, umbrella, 8" beauty dish/med mesh grid.

Light sunset.
Settings vary due to changing light.

Be kind, my 2nd portrait shoot.

Reply to all.
I did submit more than ducks.
The blog said they were looking for outdoor, adventure and sports photography.

My panoramic, landscapes were rejected for "duplicate" content and out of focus (varied among pics.) *Some had a near object in focus with the mountains out of focus.

Ducks, either bad description or out of focus.

Sports. "This is from an event that requires a media pass" *No they dont. But I get the CYA for prep sports.

In summary I could keep trying to play the guessing game on descriptions, and write detailed editor notes about the the subject, obtain media passes for every open prep event I attend or I can say the possible. 25c per download isnt worth the effort and move on.

The forums have folks that are pretty clear that at best if you're a top contributor your best average return will be around a couple hundred per month.

So if youre retired or bored maybe its worth your time. For me, it's not.

My avatar?? Taken in a NoDak blizzard on the side of the road doesnt meet your approval?
Get bent, and your momma wears Combat boots.

If you've ever needed a lesson in humility try submitting to Shutterstock.

If it were for just technical reasons I'd be ok with the rejections.
But Description not clear enough?
"Male, Mallard duck in flight" ??
Then the usual Duplicate content exists or Item not in focus
*They're not big on perspective shots, and if its low light and a bit noisy you'll get the same.
Some of the stuff I get, no press credentials for shooting a prep sports event is a CYA thing.

But after submitting 40 pics of various subject matter, resubmitting after reworking descriptions only to be rejected again I'm done.
Not worth the effort for the .25c possible download payoff

Sorry for the delay.
I ended up sticking with just the 70-200 Tamron on my D500.
Battery usage wasn't bad 1.5 (Not using the grip/double battery) shots taken approx 2k.
Drying/defog question - I keep most of the silica packs i receive and sow them throughout my bags.

*Note, there were to be some branding "hit list" images but since there were 9 of us out there skipped those and went for action and human interest instead.

CC away, it was 15f, bright sun on ice.

Good luck

From my initial research looks like an ok side hustle. Might be a good gateway to getting Sr/Prom shots.

The quality will vary greatly as they dont vet the shooters.
They only provide a pay portal.
Hosting and delivery are up to the shooter.

You can pay $35 for a media lanyard that includes a background check, but its usefulness will vary by state and governing body.
After that you can buy a starter kit that includes a media tabard and some marketing materials.

So good and bad, the payment app is nice for organizing their cut is 10%

So if you're an average "Uncle" with a camera looking to make some side money on events you were already attending why not.

I dont see anything evil about it aside from a mild push to attend team workshops that cover marketing and some skill building $999 usd.

What could kill the brand is the lack of vetting anybody with $35 can wear their brand and represent them. Couple of bad reviews in a market can kill a reputation.

Hello all, thank you for your input.

Stuck with the 70-200mm for the entire day.
Skipped the grip, and only had one battery swap.

Pictures to follow in a separate post

Do you have to put two batteries in the grip?
My grip will work with only one battery in it.

Nope. One in cam, one in grip.
But using the grip exposes two batteries to the cold vs just one at a time in the camera.

Hi all,
Volunteering to shoot a Polar Plunge event.
*Brave people dive into a frozen lake to raise money for Special Olympics.

Base gear:
D500, 24-70, 70-200mm
2 spare batteries, 2 spare memory XQD/SD

Options. 150-600mm, tripod, backup D5500 body

Yes I have appropriate snivel gear
Leaving the battery grip off thinking I'd rather have 2 warm backups instead if chilling 2 with only one warm B/U

Temp tomorrow mid teens to low 20s Farenheit.

Thoughts, suggestions?

Thanks all!

For those asking for specs.
D500, Tamron 70-200
1/1600sec, f2.8, ISO160

Results might have been better stepping down to f4/f5 and bumping up the ISO

Not normally my thing but they were just there.

Good practice and challenging to get these right with the overcast and white snow background.

CC welcome
