First run with my new D500
FF 650-500 F2.8, ISO 2000-5000
Middle School gym lighting at night.
24-70mm Tamron. No reach across court, but this was a regular sized gym divided into 3 courts. So no sideline space to back off with and use a 70-200.
Thoughts and suggestions appreciated.
Nice shots in a very challenging environment. I have 6 grandchildren playing in young leagues like that and it's tough...lighting not great, seating not great, and so much going on in the background. But you are capturing the moment and situation, not going for a Sports Illustrated cover, right? :) I think your shots are great and I know much appreciated by the athlete and his parents! And so much better than anyone else is trying to take with their iPhones... :)

Not bad for your first run with the great D500. I have over 210,000 on mine and still running strong.
Ok suggestions, shoot manual, set iso to at least 5000 and maybe 6400. That will be fine as long as you shoot tight. I would shoot 1/800 at wide open. Maybe 1/640 because these little guys are not going to be as fast as high school players. Your shots are under exposed so we have to fine more light somewhere and that's where the iso comes into play. Try different settings during the warm up period.
Good stuff, just practice and you will be fine.
Good luck and have a good holiday season.
