While I have not purchased from Craigs List I have purchased a lot of gear from ShopGoodwill.Com and off of eBay. I have only been burned once in probaby 50 plus purchases and I was able to resolve the one issue I did have. The savings over new or from some of the major retailers is significant and worth the risk in my opinion. I know others will disagree but if you are careful it can work to your benefit.

On a short trip to LA with my wife - she is here for business - so get to play. I walked around the downtown area today with my camera and shot photos of people but mostly buildings, artwork, parks, etc. I was stopped and challenged several times - very politely - by private security (around hotels mostly) for taking photos with a "professional camera". I never felt threatened and they did not ask me to delete what I had taken, they just asked me to stop and move along. This even happened at the hotel we are staying in. Is this now the norm in very large cities? Also my camera Canon T5i is a long way from I would call a 'professional camera'. So in summation - I had a nice walk with interesting experiences to tell about!

I assume the this forum gets some income from the ads that show up on it - I have no issue with that - those of you who do the work to keep this forum alive, functional, and timely deserve some financial support - you earn it, I know the amount of time and effort it takes from experience.

My concern is that one of the ads is, I feel, for a bogus product, and is being falsely advertised. The ads rotate and thus you may not being seeing the same ads I am today but the one for the "WiFi Blast" is just a bunch of bs. I gets your attention by promising to double or more you wireless internet speeds but when you read about the product it turns out to be a simple WiFi repeater. It even tells a nice story about an internet service tech secretly telling a frustrated customer about the device. While it and all the other similar repeaters on the market might increase the speed at your WiFi device at a specific location by giving you a stronger signal, it is not changing the original speed of the signal coming out of the WiFi router - it is just allowing your device to more effectively receive this signal by boosting or repeating it.

Repeaters are neat devices and do what they are intended to do - boost signal strength that has attenuated due to distance from the router - but it is not magically doubling the speed that your internet service is providing. If one does need a repeater in their particular situation, I would suggest they buy one from the same company that made their router - not one from a this company.

If the ad agreement allows I would suggest that a request be made to delete this particular product from our rotation. Otherwise I guess it's buyer beware for the readers of the forum.

I talked with the Canon Techs today and they said my T5i was 'sick' so it is on its way to them for an estimate. I hope it is at least less than the current value of the camera!

I also verified that they have indeed quit repairing the T4i as was mentioned by Marj - but they are still doing work on the T5i.

Thanks for the advice everyone

I am using a Canon T6i and find it more than enough camera for me. My previous camera was the T5i but it has some issues needing attention – the video blinks and has stripes across it and the memory card is sometimes recognized and others not. What are your opinions on whether I should I send it to Canon or to one of the other repair vendors I have seen mentioned in previous discussions – are the non-Canon vendors dependable and less expensive than Canon? I want to give the camera to daughter but want it to be fully functional. Thanks in advance for your advice! “Tenn Guy”

I have been reading the posts, enjoying the photos, and learning from everyone for several months. I live in the foothills of the Appalachians in east Tennessee so have lots of photo opportunities. As someone who also deals with neuropathy in my hands and feet I was encouraged by the post of others dealing with the same issues. I did not realize there were that many others facing the same problems. I am joining the conversation today with a request for advice on camera repair options. I am using a Canon T6i and find it more than enough camera for me. Tenn Guy
