Before I got this KP a year ago, I limited myself to ISO=800, but I had heard good things about the KP’s ISO range, so I have been exploring. I believe we will have to rethink our standards with cameras such as the Pentax KP and the Nikon D750 around. Noise, Dynamic Range, and color fidelity are all expanded to the point that we can finally decouple a need from light from aperture opening, and use ‘fast’ apertures mostly when we want narrow DOF.

I totally agree but it's still hard to "unlearn" the old limitations. I still don't go over 1600 very often as a general rule, but I have "pushed" it to 3200 on occasion. I suppose I should experiment with higher ISO settings too!

I took this photo to send to our daughters to show how long the kitten we adopted last month has become, but I thought it also shows how good modern cameras are without flash.

It still kills me though! It's really hard to use an ISO over 800 since that is about as far as I would push tri-x back in the day. It was almost the same in the early days of digital too. If you went too much over 800 or so the grain (noise) was pretty bad. I still find myself cringing at high ISO settings when in aperture priority but as your picture shows it isn't as much of an issue anymore.

If anyone is in the market for a Canon m50 Canon has a deal on their website. A refurbished M50 with the 15-45 kit lens is $479.99 with a one year limited warranty and free shipping. The sale price is good until February 2nd. Mine came in 2 days and I honestly can't tell the difference between "refurbished" and new which is what it looks like to me. Just thought I'd share!

I did the upgrade to adobe 2020 the other day (photoshop 2020), now my 2020 upgrade is incredibly slow - example: white balance - switching from "as shot" to "auto" takes 30 to 60 seconds same with all other changes ... only happened after the upgrade. any ideas?

Man there are a lot of things. Did you restart the PC (laptop) after the install?

I don't remember Windows having "My Files" and "My Pictures". What version of Windows did you have, and what "another Win10 update" are you referring to?
People are still getting used to Version 1903 as the current, latest upgrade. Version 1909 has been announced and is coming soon.

1909 is already out. I had a couple of PC's at work update to it today.

That's what it usually does, but I didn't shut down last night. Maybe it updated in its sleep???

You got it. Once you aren't using your PC long enough it will just go ahead and apply the update and restart for you,

I'm on a budget, balancing supporting my extended family with our hobbies, travel, and other interests. A dollar spent in one area is a dollar not saved or spent elsewhere. But even if I weren't, the extra low light performance of full frame is just not much of a priority for me, and I'd rather upgrade my glass game than go to the larger format.Size and weight get more important as we age, as well. Right now, there are still APS lenses that would improve my possibilities, and I'll likely go in that direction before upping the format.

I think most amateurs should think seriously before they automatically go the full format route as the logical next step. What will it actually do that you can't do with your crop sensor outfit?

Pretty close to wahgt I was thinking although I would sell my APS-C stuff if I decide to go to FF> However I already decided to see what good glass will do and have already purchased a 24-105 EF-L lens to see what that does for me at least for now!

I missed this one in the thread. Honestly, the older & discontinued 24-105L offers more risk than reward. The lens has a well known issue in the design. Mine didn't have this problem, but I can see how the absence of a lock causes this zoom lens to flop open / extend when carried vertically. This can break something inside the lens, a somewhat frequent and expensive repair. The other drawback is simply the crop factor of not being very wide at a 38mm field of view at the wide end, with a good deal of lens distortion at the wide-end.

If still seeing double from your swig of FF juice, the 17-40L or 16-35 f/4L IS lenses discussed earlier would be better FF matches to your crop body, especially when the thread started with a question about wide-angle.

The non L version of the 24-105 is sharper than the older L model as well as being half the cost.

I did see mention of the "flop" issue of the lens so hopefully I'll watch out for it. Well in some of the discussions here the idea that a super-wide angle for landscape work isn't really as necessary as it may seem made me think about it some. The 24-105L seemed to be a nice all around lens for a larger variety of shooting situations. Truth be told the 17-40L was seriously tempting and I almost went with it, but the greater focal range of the 24-105 won out in the end. The 17-40 or 16-35 will definitely remain on the radar screen.

Sort of poetic for camera equipment but I'll take it!

Fantastic! I bet it felt good to make a decision

Be sure to post photos and let us know how you like the lens. I appreciate your comments on my pics, btw

Well it would probably have been an easier decision if I'd realized the differences between the EF and EF-S lenses and that I could use the EF lenses on the T5i. Even though I already HAD an EF lens!

Well I've decided to hedge my bets a bit. Instead of going FF at this point I decided to get a piece of glass. Specifically a Canon EF 24-105mm f4 L IS USM Lens. This way I can see if good glass will be satisfying enough. Then if I still feel I want to go with s FF body I'll have 2 EF lenses to work with right off the bat.

IMO for what you want to spend you could be pretty happy with APS-C like me or falling quite short with full frame. Full frame can be a long expensive road if not careful.

That's a very valid point!

I upgraded from a T2i to 6D mkII and love it, but a T2i is a lot older than a T5i. My T2i couldn't handle much more than ISO 400 without getting super noisey. But as everyone else has said, glass will make a bigger difference than a body will. I would consider the less expensive EF-S 10-18mm lens for an ultra-wide angle lens (like 16-29mm FF equivalent). I have that lens still and it does a great job and I think gives pictures just as good as the more expensive 10-22 mm lens you're looking at. https://www.amazon.com/Canon-EF-S-10-18mm-4-5-5-6-Lens/dp/B00K899B9Y

I was looking at that and the same lens but the USM instead of the STM. The USM is basically $400 instead of $200.
