This was masterful; honestly written and humorously stated. You have passion in your soul and I am confident
your camera captures it.

It's all a matter of semantics, current lingo, euphemisms, and fashionable buzzwords. Lots of it is just silly and causes confusion and lack of clarity. Sometimes it's "snobbery"!

There was a time when even great iconic master photographers simply referred tho their OWN work as "PICTURES"- I even remember art museum curators and gallery owners calling masterpiece paintings "PICTURES"!

In certain professional circles, it became unfashionable, outmoded, obsolete or kinda not classy to call pictures- "pictures"- they are PHOTOGRAPHS! We don't take pictures anymore we "MAKE PHOTOGRAPHS"! We don't SHOOT kids and brides we photograph CHILDREN and WEDDINGS! Other forbidden words are PROOFS or CONTACTS- the are "PREVIEWS" or "DEBUTE IMAGES" and God forbid, a professional photographer should ask for a "DEPOSIT or a RETAINER" when an "INVESTMENT" is a cooler word. How ridiculous in that? They are not buying into your business or buying stock in your corporation- they're simply making a reservation of making a down payment!

Perhaps "images" is a more authentic word since digital imaging has integrated more digital art and graphic arts into our final products.

Perhaps it's my early education and background in Brooklyn. My advice is to TALK PLAIN ENGLISH!, Sorry SPEAK EGLISH! ...Or whatever language is the first or official language of your country. It's getting that photographs are commutating Cockney Rhyming Slang and endless technobabble.

Straight talk has never impeded my relationships with my colleagues, friends, students, family or clients. When I tell customers "I'm gonna take your picture" rather than "I'm going to make an image of you" has never caused an issue.

Sorry for exceeding the 25-word limit- during social distancing/quarantine time- there is more time to type!

I love your ability to "speak plain english" or whatever language. I bet your photos are clean, crisp and enjoyable. My suspicion is you haven't unfriended anyone for using their cellphone camera. Onward.

I just got back from a week in Cancun. I took a RX100m7 and my iphone 8s. Every time I left the room, it took an hour for the camera to warm up so it did not completely saturate with moisture condensation. So, all my shots were with the iphone. The camera on the phone was one of the reasons I bought it in the first place.

thanks. I am leaning towards the iPhone 8+ for my upgrading. Just learned my grandson(17) also has 8+.
Thanks to everyone for all the helpful comments.

Is battery in iPhone 6 easily replaceable?

good question. I've heard Apple keeps us captive (buying new) by deleting battery availability. Hmmm.
I have a 5c and love it but fear it going the way of the dinosaur-LOL.

Wow - only 2 cameras in a lifetime! I have 4 I use right now, not counting my cell phone!
2 DSLRs - one backup or other type lens
1 bridge camera with a 50X zoom
1 pocketable for those times when you don't want to carry a camera unless it is in your pocket

What is your cell phone?

Like others above, I'm an iPhone 6s plus owner and am going to the new iPhone 11. The video capabilities look incredible. The new night mode is also interesting. I think another very important feature is the water resistance. I like to work around water and have ruined a couple of phones. I like the ability to dip it accidentally.

It seems lots of readers are waiting for the iPhone 11. "Snapshots vs photos" (prior reader comments) made me smile and shake my head. I want simple, less expensive, good snaps/photos...with a phone, LOL.
Will be visiting an Apple store soon and am considering the 8 vs 8+. Thanks for commenting. All comments provide info to consider. All valuable!

Yes. Have already purchased iPhone 11plus max. Will be delivered 1-4 Oct. Yes camera features sound intriguing. Only one reason to purchase. The other is
my current I phone X locks up on me... occasionally I cant open for hours. Of course Problems don’t exist when taking to Apple store. They have run test 6 ways to Sunday and Can’t find a problem. So now I set it to never go to sleep. It stays on 24 hrs a day.

Whenever I have problems with something I get something new. Except for a wife.

Yes, I am influenced by the camera feature. Currently an iPhone 6 user it is time to upgrade the phone for a few reasons; camera being only one of the reasons. Apps on 11 will be faster, screen will be bigger, battery life will be longer, etc. The 6 still works fine, for 85% of my needs/use, but the 15% has me willing:
At Disney World, the App on the 6 is frustrating, as well as other apps I use regularly. The camera is an influencing bonus. Using Disney (vacation time) again as an example: the phone camera is more than adequate for snapshots (and Disney will take photos with a DSLR free all over all 4-parks)
When on vacation, I want to be a Tourist! When I carry DSLR, or Full Frame Mirrorless, Camera(s) I’m no longer on vacation… I’m working.
I NEED to separate work from Vacation time. And I do not need to print mural sized copies of my vacation.
It is still a pleasure to shoot with a Full Frame Body with real Glass, and revel in the quality and ability to use the results commercially. But it is equally a pleasure to carry an 8 oz point & shoot that makes phone calls, runs apps, surfs the WWW, tracks my family, gives me on-demand GPS directions, and a few thousand other options AND helps me be in vacation mode not work mode while still maintaining a full mobile office.
The iPhone is a complimentary device, not a replacement for full-frame with interchangeable glass. And when I send a picture (or video) of a 5-year-old gleefully interacting with Mickey… or other family members, no one cares if the photo came from an iPhone, a Sony A-7 or a Nikon 850; but I would regret missing that precious moment.

Even though the iPhone 7 is supported now and for a while to come, that may change in the not so distant future. (Apple is well known for this). I would recommend going with at least an iPhone 8+ or the iphone XR. They both feature excellent cameras. I have the XR and am very happy with it. The pictures are very good. It is the camera I always have with me. I have a DSLR, and a bridge camera for travel, but the phone comes in handy when I don't have one of those cameras with me.

Thanks. Can you still buy a NEW 8+?

I suppose if you did a local search you might find somewhere local to buy one, but the lowest price deals are usually on line. AT&T will give you a price of around$450 - $500.
With each iteration of the iPhone the camera dynamic range seems to get better. They now have 3 lenses on the 11. The 7+ has two, which makes portraits very nice. The 8 takes even better photos and portraits than the 7+. I have not researched it, so I don’t have any clue about the X. Plus no one I know has one. They all have either an 8 or a 7+.
The thing I try to keep in mind when it comes to technology is that it constantly changes. I can only get the latest item available with as much memory as I can get and stay within my budget.

Simply stated, I have fun with photos, along with seeing humor in most situations. I snap away for personal reasons and enjoy sharing with family and friends. NO ASPIRATIONS to become professional and rarely, close to never, take a selfie. When I search for the diff. in the camera component of iPhones, the technical aspects go beyond my pay scale. Is it too much to desire a good, under $500-600, simple cell phone. To me, the descriptions oversell, using fancy words to avoid saying "no basic change." I will probably try to find an iPhone 8, unsure about used or new. Obviously, my 5c shows I don't need to keep up with the Jones. Would rather spend my money on the trip of a lifetime: just returned from 2 week African Safari and son insisted I take his Nikon 5200 (on auto.)...glad I did, but heavy camera.
pmorin...you are the best....and a local OC???
