It's basic photography your subjects have to be withing your depth of field f1.8 is very narrow (thought is great for only one person in your pic) close your f stop to f5.6 or even better f8/f11

A battery grip is a case that screws at the tripod hole in the camera and contain 2 batterias this gives you twice the battery use time and is useful for long shooting events but has nothing to do with the lens, Santel.

I would suggest to use the external flash wireless just get the adapter and mount the flash on top should work fine.
I haven't seen yet any discussion on pro photo labs yet.
