I am trying to locate a replacement lens cap for a Lumix LX5 and except for a special folding cap, I can not even find out for sure what size (52 mm?) to purchase. I know this is very basic but . . . Any suggestions?

Don't know if this will help . Look at the bottom ( underside of your lens ( near where it says "made in ..... ) the size of the lens cap should be there such as 57 or 67 .

Looks like it is 52mm on the website for that camera .

That sounds like a point and shoot camera
most cameras has the lens size around the edge of the lens or look in the lens around the glasses edge it will say f-stop name of lens and lens size in millemeters. Read your Manuel

I checked around the lens edge in the usual area and nothing there. The manual is mum, but I did find something on another blog- 52 mm.

The lx5 has a 2.0 Lica lens and is my back-up, and as you thought, is a P & S. It is abgreat little carry around camera. Thanks.

Generic lens caps are cheap. Go to your local photography store, show them the camera and ask if they have a lens cap for it. I did that with my SX30 when I needed an extra cap in 67mm for the filter adapter.

Yes indeed, 52 mm. I suggest the JJC
folding lens cap which is all over Amazon. I have one on my lumix, and it screws on very carefully as there are plastic threads on the new cap. There are three spring loaded vanes that pop open when the motorized lens focus barrel extends. The vanes snap back closed when you power down the camera and is an excellent replacement for the factory snap off cap. They are made by JJC and range between $12-15 on Amazon. Ted

Thanks folks. The nearest real camera store is a two hour drive from me. I tried a 52 mm cap and it is way too big. I have read a little about the auto cap but recall something about it not closing tight enough but if that is the best game in town . . . I have been a Mac user for many years and Apple is known for similar decisions without serious user consideration. All Panasonic would need to do is sell lens caps but I guess that is not considered worth the trouble. Ah, but the DMC LX5 is great little camera. I appreciate all the advice.

If there's enough snout sticking out, just get an old discarded dark pill bottle, cut off the bottom and use it. If it's too loose, line with black tape for snug fit. when you cut it off the bottle, leave enough to make a tab, poke a hole in it for tether cord, and bend out a bit. Tie cord to strap lug. I did this on a Kodak P&S, and it worked better than the oe cap. Cheaper than a two hour drive. Just my two cents.MR.ED

Measure the inside diameter of your lens and convert .52mm = 2.04 " just a hair over two inchs.

You guys are creative. Looks like the ways of photography range well beyond f stops and thirds. I'll pursue both. :)

If you're sure it's a 52mm go to ebay. Lots of lens caps there at decent prices.

I borrowed a 52 mm and it was too big. I did locate a top from a bottle of vitamins and it snaps on perfectly. Thanks to 7007's suggestion.
