First of all I have lost count of how much money I have happily spent at BnH. Every single experience I have had at BnH has been positive. Absolutely no complaints from me what so ever. So what's going on now?

I opened a Payboo account. With this account you can buy what you want, and depending on how much you spend you get so many months of interest free payments.

I bought $6200.00 worth of new gear expecting several months to pay it off so I wouldn't by paying any interest.

I received my first invoice today from Payboo and they charged me $134.00 in interest.

I am not done with BnH by any means. Since i don't have $6,000 sitting around to pay this off tomorow I guess I have no other option except to withdraw money from my pension account to pay off this balance and say good bye to Payboo.

So what's up BnH?

With the Payboo card, you can either pay off your purchase over 12 months and not pay interest, OR not pay sales tax. Chances are you didn't pay sales tax on your $6,000 purchase, so to avoid interest on your purchase you have to pay off what you owe. It's one or the other with the Payboo card; either 12 monthly payments interst-free or no sales tax.

I have found that today's Nikon mirrorless cameras (and to an extent the newer DSLR cameras) handle higher ISOs much better than they did in years past. It all depends on what you think is too much noise, but I have used ISOs of 20,000 with very acceptable results.

It looks to me like the photos are out of focus and overexposed. May I ask what kind of solar filter you used? Here in Nothern California, we were well out of the path of the total eclipse but did see the moon cover about 40 percent of the sun. I had to use a solar filter the entire time as the sun was never really blocked. My settings for this photo were SS 1/20, f13, ISO 100 (on a tripod) with a 100mm-400mm lens. I used a smaller aperture (f13) to hopefully get more detail of the sun.

For you SmugMug users, can you add captions to individual photos? Or password protect any of your galleries?

Yes, you can add captions and password protect galleries and photos.
Here is an example of a captioned photo.

I have had an account with Zenfolio for several years. I create galleries for casual viewing, not for sales. I have about 2k images online. My main problem is that I am currently unable to view any of my photos. The thumbnails will not load into viewable size at all. Another problem is Zenfolio's current practice of the archiving of galleries. If want to view an archived gallery, you can theoretically restore it, but it may take 12 hours to do so. One more problem is the continuing upward spiral in price. It was $50 per year, then $60, now it is $77 for the "basic" plan. So, my fellow UHH readers, what say you about Flickr, or SmugMug? Or, any other place where I can create a nice site for family viewing (not just storage)?

As others have pointed out flickr and SmugMug are now owned by the same company (SmugMug bought flickr). I use both but primarily use SmugMug to store and show my photos. They have unlimited storage and building a website it pretty easy, although not all that intuitive. They also have a very responsive Customer Service team that answers questions 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. If you care to look, here is my site.

Matt Grainer was comparing it to the Nikon 24-200mm f/4-6.3.

Well yeah...who is buying a 200mm f/6.3 anyways?
One meh lens looks good next to another meh lens...must be the marketing play here.

I bought the 24mm-200mm Z lens when it first came out. Great travel lens.

IF the Z90 is the "flagship" DX camera for Nikon, I would expect it to be priced a bit higher than the D500 when it first came out about 8 years ago. That price was $2,000, so I would expect between $2,500 and $3,000. Of course, the Z90 may be the next iteration of the Z50, with fewer features, dropping the price considerably. At this point it's all rumors. The Z6 III should be the next camera released, and most people believe a DX camera will come later this year.

There hasn't been much discussion lately about true pocket cameras. (Ones you can actually slip into a front pocket or cargo pants side pocket.) I know cell phones have encroached in this domain, but I curious if hoggers have a preference as to currently offered models and which one is the best.

I have and like very much both the Canon G7X Mark II and the Panasonic ZS100. I would give the image sharpness edge to the Canon but the Panasonic has more zoom and bells and features.

A word about the Canon. Apparently, some influencers on TikTok or Instagram are using the Canon G7X Mark II, and it's become very popular and hard to find.

The megapixels are very, very, very tiny in cell phones, especially phones that have 200 mp. Cell phone manufacturers also use pixel binning, which clusters the megapixels to make them bigger but hurts resolution. Finally, they use lots of AI and other technologies to improve the final look of the jpeg. Great for sharing on social media and when viewing on a phone screen but not as good for printing.

200 mp sounds good, however, when marketing the phone.

Anyone have personal experience with both of these lenses; am considering my options for a Nikon mirrorless. I have seen the 100-400 at a local camera store; I like its overall weight and would pair it with a 1.4x TC when needed. On the other hand the 180-600 is supposed to be internal focus, and costs less. I would have to get a few new filters IF I got the 180-600; my 77mm filters already fit the 100-400.

I have the Z 100mm-400mm and have used it with both the 1.4 teleconverter and the 2.0 teleconveter. In good light, the 1.4 teleconverter delivers fantastic results. I chose this lens for the size and weight, as I like to take along a long lens like this on hikes. I had the Sigma 150mm-600mm a few years back and, while a very nice lens, especially for the price, it starts to become heavy when hiking for two or so hours. I bought the Z 100mm-400mm and immediately sold the Sigma once I saw the size and weight and how well it handled in my Z cameras.

The 180mm-600mm will certainly give you more reach and costs considerably less, but it's larger and heavier. That may be something to consider if you are planning on hiking or traveling with this lens.

Wanting to get back to my life time hobby, I have been repeatedly perusing the Nikon USA webpage and the Zf caught my eye. It takes me back to the days of the Nikkormat, the FE, the FM, when cameras were simpler. The Zf seems a little bit more more analog than digital, does anyone out there has any comments or feedback on this camera that wants to share?
Much appreciated.
Claude

Here is a very detailed review from dpreview.com. At this point, the Zf is the third best Nikon mirrorless, behind the much more expensive Z9 and Z8. This may be my next camera, depending on what the Z6III looks like, so I have been reading lots of reviews. One of my dislikes of the Zf is the lack of a grip, but a number of third party grips are available that will make it much easier to hold, especially with larger lenses.

Nope, I don't need no stinkin' mirrorless camera and I fer sure don't need no stinkin' full frame. I don't even shoot raw. But they kept it up, they kept showing me stuff till the rationalizer kicked in and my tiny rat brain went to work. What if I get a really good deal on a camera that I really, really want where I can get away with my present lenses for some time to come with no further expense and it will do everything my D7500 and my Z50 will do combined, plus have room for more tricks later if I want to learn them? The pressure was too much. Z7ii on the way. I don't even have the camera yet and I already spent $70 on a memory card (and that was on sale!) and as soon as I get the body to make sure all is well, another $50 or so for a card reader since my old one has no CFExpress type B slot. Might just need another dedicated monopod and maybe a ball head. So much for no further expenses... ah, but then I'll be a really, really great photographer, right? (Did I tell you about the 180-600 they keep showing me?) 😁

I was driving with my dogs when I noticed a turkey vulture circling above relatively low to the ground and low and behold, there was a opossum in the road. The turkey vulture was joined by a few of his friends a few minutes later. These guys are easy to photograph when they are low to the ground and circling.

Nikon Z50 and Z 50mm-250mm lens.

Recently I talked to my good friend who just purchased a Nikon ZFC. He has had it since Christmas. He does a lot of bicycling and likes to take landscape and nature shots. He said he got a spot on the sensor and wanted to clean it but was very nervous about doing so. We discussed cleaning options.

Yesterday he took his Subaru to the dealer for service which is not too far from the Nikon Service Center in Los Angeles. He decided to stop at the Service Center (no appointment) and ask them about the sensor cleaning. "Vic" at the Service Center said they could clean the sensor no charge for him and have it ready when his car was done.

The car service was supposed to take 2 hours. It ended up taking 4 hours and the Nikon Service Center would be closed by the time my buddy got his car back. So there he sat at the dealer.

He called Vic at the Service Center and explained the dilemma and delay. Vic said "No problem, I can drop your camera off to you."

And sure as heck, Vic did exactly that! Upon closing up the Service Center he drove to the car dealer and hand delivered my buddy's freshly cleaned and pristine camera with a spot free sensor.

My hat is off to the LA Nikon Service Center!!! They have always done me right and this is just one more good ending story about strong customer service on the Nikon end. Kudos to Vic and the folks at Nikon Service Center in Los Angeles. You rock.

Thats a great story. Your friend should let Vic's boss know what a great job he did, and that he went above and beyond. That kind of service is rare these days.
