I just looked and it was in late 2013 too. We travel with a small group tour company, Odysseys Unlimited. They have great tours for small groups. Some of your photos look so familiar but like many of these authoritarian governments you only get to see whether want you to see. We've been to Cuba, China, and USSR days before the fall of their government in 1991 but returned to a totally different country just a few years ago. Enjoy your photos. was big in film and slow to the digital photography even though my background is in video and computers. I traveled with some of the early digital cameras and people liked my compositions and work. So a now have a Nikon with a few lenses but when I travel I try to stick with a small zoom. I don't like dragging too much around. Keep posting.

That studio looks very familiar. We were there several years ago and are enjoying seeing your take on some of the sites we visited too. One that caught my attention was the guys making gold leaf...who could imagine that is how it was accomplished, at least in Myanmar.

It used to be true, now it’s tasseled out about this time in central Illinois.

I did use a p1000 on a safari to Africa several years ago. I got some absolutely fantastic shots with the digital zoom. However, those long range shots lose resolution in larger prints. A guy on the trip had some big Nikon with a long lens and he was amazed at my results. But he had never used the Nikon or any digital camera before the trip. He was sold a bill of goods by some salesman.

I have a 4-year old grandson who loves taking pictures with my iPhone. These pictures are clear and the composition is spot on, he has a great eye and gets excellent results.

I am looing to buy him his first camera. It has to be simple to use, but robust enough to take good pictures. I have seen the cameras made for children, and do not like them. I want a small simple point and shoot with less buttons and controls, but of good quality an sturdiness. Any suggestions, cost is not an issue?

I’d look for some of those early point and shoot cameras available on eBay that you could pickup for a few dollars. They often had auto focus and large screens to compose. Few controls and some telephoto features. If he drops it or damages it. You can find another cheaply on line or move him to a new level.

[quote=warzone]I had the opportunity to go to a dear friend’s interment at Arlington Cemetery. It was a sight to behold. The Honor Guard took such care and performed their duties with such precision and respect for my friend. I wish all Veterans received such respect while they are still living.[

Far as I can figure out I’ve been to SA 11 times. Senegal, Eritrea, Morocco, Kenya twice, made a several hour (possibly not strictly legal) excursion into Tanzania, and of course Botswana. I’ve spent 16 not really pleasurable hours at Cairo airport, although I did see the pyramids after takeoff. As far as Indian tigers are concerned, see my previous post “tiger, tiger burning bright”. India was, ah, different. Nothing like being in a Tuk-tuk on the wrong side of the road on the busiest road in Delhi! India is, along with China and Russia one of the places I refuse drive.

Cheers
Peter

It's been over a decade since being in Egypt. Spent almost almost three weeks there traveling from Abu Simbel to Alexandria. It is a once in a lifetime trip. India has been one of our favorites, three trips through many parts of that country that is as diverse as Africa. One trip included five days in Sri Lanka another intriguing country that I would like to explore.

We have been to Africa three times too. Egypt, Kenya/Tanzania, and across the southern tip: Botswana, South Africa and Namibia. All are great photo journeys but the big cats and especially the leopards are my favorite, elusive unless you have a great guide. Tigers in India are the greatest challenge if you ever get the opportunity.

My wife and I have done 3 photographers safaris in Africa, 2 in the Masai Mara in Kenya, and 1 in Chobe NP in Botswana. We went to the Mara with David Lloyd Photographers Safaris, and both times stayed in Entim Camp. One night on our first visit we were woken up by thumping and crashing from right behind our tent. We asked the warriors guarding the camp what it was when we went for breakfast, apparently there were a couple of elephants having a disagreement. The warriors tried to move them on, but I guess if an elephant doesn't want to go, not much can be done to persuade him. In Botswana we stayed in tents, which were moved every couple of days as we moved around. We had a bush toilet outside our tent, surrounded by a canvas screen. We could lie in our beds and listen to the lions roaring nearby, and hear honey badgers snuffling around. Because we were many miles from anywhere, our midnight bathroom visits showed the heavens in all their glory, you could almost read by starlight. We went to Botswana with Images of Wildlife, wonderful trips! We would love to go back, Africa gets under your skin, but it's an awful long way from Tucson, and we don't get over jet lag too quickly these days.

All my life and I am 60 now, I could never imagine NYC as a vacation destination until I had to go for a business meeting.

All I can is WOW, my perception was way off.
I decided to take my better half to see the big apple and see what it was all about and got some great shots.

We took the ferry to see the Lady, This is something I have always dreamed of.
For these shots we walked about 15 miles per day and really got to experience the city.

Hershel from B&H photo was kind enough to give us a tour of the store and behind the scenes, B&H is not at all a small operation, they are huge, the store is just the tip of the iceberg, they have my business.

Enjoy.

I grew up in the Midwest but job opportunities put my wife and me in northern NJ settling in eyeshot of the city. We never missed an opportunity to go explore. Sure there are the tourist spots but wandering it’s many neighborhoods and ethnic centers was always an adventure and education. After 35 years we had to return to the Midwest but our memories remain of that great city....and we cannot say we ever had a bad experience even in what some would call the dicey neighborhoods.
