Hey I see your in the Philly area. I live in Norristown. I know that UM has a camera club. You might want to look into that. They meet once a month and go over a lecture and then go out and shoot.

Nervous as Hell... of I can put it bluntly. In one week I have my first paid outdoor Engagement shoot and I need good advice on camera settings. It most likely will be sunny and in the 90's. I only have a 18-105mm and a 50mm 1.4. It's not that I haven't shot outdoors before with family and friends. It's this time I'm getting paid for it from a costomer. I guess what I'm looking for is, What f stops are good for the outdoor shooting, and best shutter speeds. Just a little encouraging from my fellow Hedgehogs.

What in the world are you doing charging for your services when you don't understand exposure and f/stops and shutter speeds????

I'd be nervous too.

I DO understand those things and I'd not do a paid shoot of any kind at my experience level...there are just too many things that go into really good images that I'm not "super-comfortable" with yet.

But be that as it may...the old sunny 16 rule is a good starting place.

f/16
Shutter speed 1/ISO value.

Example:

ISO 100
f/16
SS 1/100

OR

ISO 100
f/5.6
SS 1/800

And so on.

I have no knowledge of those lenses you mentioned, but Minolta Maxxum AF lenses from 85 on have a great reputation.. Google the Maxxum history and you will be impressed. Compared to modern lenses, they weigh a lot more, but are excellent glass at a low price..... er a, yes I have a Sony Alpha, how did you guess?

Wow, I didn't know that there where 7 or 8 Sony users here. lol. I still love my D5, and I really love my A77 because the fact that I can use my Minolta lenses.

You should save your print photo in TIFF format. This is ideal for printing because TIFF does not compress the file like JPEG.

Maybe it is a stand alone but I can access via PSe9 through my filter selection.

http://www.portraitprofessional.com/

But if you go to the link above, under the heading,

New portrait professional 10 now even better. Look at the second to last bullet, and it says available as a photoshop plug-in

Hope this helps

I haven't had any problems with the VF going black after a picture, but I have noticed having a black screen when I was going to take a picture, and I would be able to see when I raised the ISO. I have done the continous shoot, and the 12 FPS is awesome. I havent giving the camera a full work out yet, but thus far, I am fully satisfied. I have noticed that he camera takes some getting use to. It's nothing like my old Koncia. I'm looking forward to see if there are any other complients. Hopefully Sony get this fixed for you.

what is the lagtime after you've shot the burst of 12 while it writes to disk? And how many frames can it shoot continuously before it needs to take a breath and write to the card?

I didnt really take much notice of the frames or speed when I tried it out, but I will try it within the next day or two and get back with my results.

I'm really glad you started this thread, I was curious about the Sony shooters on here. I think we could become a good resource for each other with the camera's and lenses. Do you mind if I add you to my buddy list to keep up with the Sony users?
