I have that particular bean bag but now just rely on the trucks having bean bags. And, yes, I forgot to add the 1.4x tc. I always put the 1.4x tc in the bag. Last few times to Africa, I have not actually used it. My bag is a Gura Gear 2.0 32L bag. It's all about weight! Maximizing camera equipment without compromising quality. And, also it depends on what you are interested in shooting.

I've been to Africa 9 times, and have always taken my Nikon 500mm (affectionally called the "beast"), f4 and my Nikon 70-200mm, f2.8 lens. I have a D5 and D850. However, I just got the super lightweight Nikon 500mm, PF, f5.6 lens so will be replacing the beast with that lens (anyone interested, its for sale). And, like many stated in the comments section, it is important to bring two camera bodies, especially if one body dies on you while on safari. And, because of dust . . . it can sneak in when your not looking. And, speaking of dust, bring something to cover your camera and lens.

On my last trip, August, 2019, to Zambia and Zimbabwe, I rented the Nikon 200-500mm lens. I had to leave the beast home because we had extreme weight limitations on the bush planes. The 200-500 is a good lens, but I found it did better when mounted on tripod, especially when zoomed to 500mm. My images were much sharper when placed on tripod or a beanbag, not as sharp as the beast but still pretty darn sharp. I do not know where you are going or if you will be on a bush plane but all of my African trips involved a bush plane with weight limitations. And, that's a real consideration when deciding what to bring.

I always take my tripod for Milky Way photography, for videos, for landscapes and storms combined with a wide angle lens, usually the 12-24mm lens. Africa has beautiful landscapes and dramatic skies (especially if you catch a storm) as well as the African night skies. Don't leave home without the tripod. It's great for video as well. I have a lightweight Benro, with a RRS head, total weight about 5 lbs. I also carry a Sony RX100 VI and my trusty iPhone XS Max for catching shots of people and doing short videos. Don't skimp . . . going to Africa is a trip of a lifetime.

First thanks for the quick replies. Does anyone have a local camera shop that might have the lens that will ship out of state? I tried Houston Camera Exchange, Sammy's, Adorama, Hunts, etc. I just talked with B&H customer service. According to their representative, B&H has NOT filled their orders for this lens from 2018. Yikees!! I will definitely have to look at other opportunities.

I have had a purchase order in at B&H since June, 2019, for the new Nikon 500mm, PF 5.6, lens, but still have not received it. I saw Steve Perry's video on some ideas at where to look for the lens but that proved fruitless. I'm now asking if anyone else have had some luck getting the lens, or have an idea or suggestion where someone might have the lens. Lucky, Steve Perry has two 500mm lenses.

Thanks

My husband and I were watching the Season 3, when the sheriff walked into the mayor's office. I noticed the bald eagle shot on the wall since it was showing predominately while they were talking. I thought OMG that looks just like my eagle shot! I paused the screen, then looked up my photos on my iPad. Its the same photo! I took a screenshot and, of course, posted it on Facebook and Instagram. LOL! I was laughing and feeling very cool!

No, I did not get a royalty. I sell my images to Getty Images. I do get a quarterly check from Getty. I'm thinking of capitalizing on the popularity of "Stranger Things" since I've heard that some of the products in the season are quite popular, like "new Coke" and the blouse from the Gap. Maybe people would interested in purchasing my photo through my website.

I was excited to see that my Bald Eagle photo was hanging on the wall in the mayor's office, in Episode 3 and 5, of the new season of Stranger Things. If only I could get credit for it! Maybe they will send me a First Class RT ticket, a walk on the Red Carpet, and a nomination for Best Photo on a wall, in a Drama Series. LOL!

I don't know exactly how the photo got there, maybe through Getty Images?

Actually, I went practiced using the Recall feature photographing cars going by. It's the metering issue that I was having. I believe that when using this feature (its a great feature btw), you will need to update as light changes. But I took your advice and sent a PM to Steve Perry. He maybe able to give me some further tips on using this feature. I wanted to thank you for leading me in the right direction.

I actually thought someone could help me with the recall feature. And that’s what I’m asking.

When you use correct terminology people will think you know what you're talking about.

It’s a “raw” photo in the fact that its not been processes. I forgot that this forum worries more about terminology than what my original question.

Interesting feature. I never heard of that, but I'll follow the discussion. As for your raw image, only JPEGS can be posted here, so that's what finally appeared in your post, somehow. I just tried to attach an NEF file, and nothing appeared but the Download link.

"- When attaching pictures, please make sure to use JPG files. They will be automatically resized and displayed in the posts. If you attach files of other types (such as DNG, CR2), then they won't show in the post. Instead, a download link will appear."
Interesting feature. I never heard of that, but I... (show quote)

Last year, Steve Perry published an article on Nikon's Recall Shooting feature, for the D5. I used it but I can't get the exposure to work. It takes the last exposure which may or may not work. In my case, it didn't work. I would like to use this feature for switching between fast shutter speed shooting to getting blur shots with a lower shutter speed. Some of my shots were way too overexposed. Has anyone else used this feature with good results? The attached photo is a raw file without any post processing but I had switched to the recall feature to take the shot.
