While I have done Adobe Photoshop, it's been a long time. Since I am just getting back into this, I'd prefer to hold off on making a major investment.

I've been playing with some free programs, the last being Pixlr. There's so much on the web that it gets overwhelming, so I thought I'd throw it out to all of you to get your opinions.

Since I have a lot on my plate, I would prefer a solid program but one that doesn't involve a steep learning curve.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

I am 93 and have never stopped using film, Ilford HP4 & 5 for B & W and Kodak Portra for colour, with me B & W rules OK. I have a Canon 5D Mk3 for plastic photography. Old photographers never die, they just go out of focus.
My Mk5 is always set to manual and with my trusty spot meter, I do the thinking.

At the moment, Covid has imprisoned me, if I catch it it will be toes up time, to keep the brain working I am learning C++ codding I will tell you why another time.
Stay Safe my friends.

You know nothing about Cuba, before the revolution, it was run by a brutal dictator supported by the USA, it was Americas play ground for gangsters, p*******es, and other d*****ts, and as for children dying, in the USA people die because they can not afford medical care or the drugs to keep them alive. Cuba has some of the best Doctors and Surgeons there are and the don,t have sick people that go into schools with high powered gun and shoot dozens of kids every so often.
Before shouting about how bad it is, go and see for yourself, then comment.

I am 90 years old and have paid the mortgage and the fed and cloth the family as photographer since 1950 most of my work was fashion and product promotion, my son took over from me and shoots world wide for top brand products including Nikon, Canon, Honda etc and we never ditched any cameras until they went toes up, the camera we both use and he thinks the best ever made is the Canon 5Dii for stills and video if you go to Utube and search for; Walkers Crisps Sandwich he shot it entirely using 5Diis, I read quite a few photographic sites and smile at the armchair experts spouting about pixels and clarity this and that, and I think if it was still film 97% of you would not be interested in photography, film is making a come back amongst the professional photographers because a colour film will beat a digital image in every respect. I and my son still shoot a lot of film and digital always in manual and separate spot meter because we like to be in control; not the camera, just enjoy your photography and don't get caught up in the camera snobbery for some it is just male jewellery to hang round their neck. I am counting down now will lose my focus. Your eyes are the best camera, if you can't see a good picture the camera won't see it either.

Gaffer Tape gets its name from the film industry, The Gaffer is the Chief Electrician, the tape is used by the Gripps to temporarily hold cables etc in place, when I worked making movies (1960) it was Duct Tape, but now it is Gaffer Tape? I am old

Your camera see's the world in black and white, so knowing where mid grey is in a scene and metering off that is the way I go, but I am 90 and come from a life of film work, I still shoot film now with my Yashica Mat LM Medium format camera. My Canon 5d ii I use set on manual and use a separate spot meter. My brain and experience are my electronics. you now have the luxury of learning without a cost, whereas I screwed up costly film either in the taking or developing stage while I was learning. Experience is yesterdays mistakes.
What I find is; when watching digital shooters, is they do not spend time reading the scene. At 90 I am a fair weather photographer now, but it has been good to me, it paid the rent, fed the kids and gave immense satisfaction.

I don't think there are opportunities in Photo Journalism now, there are too many Iphones and what I call vanity photographers who give their pictures away. but it was for me a good living, stressful having to meet print deadlines, but when the supplement was running a story on Nudist Camps that was interesting, on the other hand when the PE wants pictures of the Kray twins and the Richardson brothers when they are running a story on London crime syndicates, you want fast feet, I am an opportunist shooter, I don't plan anything, always in manual or tv, most of my family are in commercial photography for a living. I have attached a few pics. I have no idea who the ladies are, one was at a summer fair, the other from my office window, then flowers in Bosham Church and my son Simon at work shooting an add for May Belline. (you can't carry that camera about) and his crew. And this is the little lad Simon who loved spending time in my Darkroom, the boy done well

I am an ancient 90 year old ex-Photo Journalist, I am still taking a few shot now and then for pleasure, I still shoot film and off course Digital, it depends on the mood and amount of work I want to put in, if I was not so old and decrepit as the result of a stroke I would shoot only film, due to having think and work the brain harder. I never shot much for pleasure when I was working, the last thing I wanted to do in my time off was take pictures. The great thing about the Digital Age is I can scan my negatives and load them into Affinity Photo and not spend hours in a darkroom breathing in nasty fumes which I believe added to my COPD. Still enough screed about me.
I will be sitting at my PC seeing what you youngsters are up to. I have a son who is a DOP and Producer of commercials working for Fresh Films so he is another interest I have.
I am UK based.
Take Care.
