I am currently digitizing family photos by taking pictures of the photo! I am using a macro lens and a ring light. I believe the results are very good. These family albums will be shared with as many family members as are interested. This is a rather large project but the pictures will be permanently saved.

On our local free to advertise buy & sell website (serving about 150,000 people) there are for sale 36 Canons of various models and only 15 Nikons. Not that I'm a Nikon fan per se however it does, I think, indicate more people hang on to their Nikons and more people dump their Canons ( I have two Nikons, two Canons, one Lumix and one Olympus so I'm NOT biased )

I am a Nikon guy however I believe that each have good points and bad. I also believe that I have Nikon because when I started taking pictures back in 1977 that is what I always dreamed of having. My first camera was a kodak 110! My second was a Minolta XE 5 (I believe I got the model correct). Today I think it is more important to know your camera well no matter what you shoot with. I am curious to see what the future will bring. Will phones rule?

I have a D7200 and have been into BIF, but I'm interested in macro. For Christmas and my 80th birthday my family will spring for either a Nikon 105 VR f2.8 macro or a D500 body. I have a 200 - 500 and a 70 - 200 kit, and a wide angle kit. Your opinion would be appreciated. The cost is not the issue.

Well if I was in your boots I would want the lens! I have this lens and it is one of my favorites.

I would contact the manufacturer of the dash cam and see if this has ever happened before. I would also google the camera for problems. If you had an issue it is quite likely others have as well.

I shoot with a d 750 and also a d300. I also have several lenses all are Nikon. My question is really simple. I am looking at the Tamron 150 -600 g2. Does any one have any opinions on this this lense or is there better choices out there? I will primarily be using the lense for birds and anything else I may not be able to get close to.

I believe judging is not the response needed for a learning type of forum. Hindsight is always 20/20 vision. We can all learn a lesson to be very careful with all of our equipment. I know I have had many close calls! I always protect my gear as best I can. Now have said that I am always up for learning lessons taught here in the forum. Keep up the good work positive people!

I believe Nikon glass is the industry standard. Love their glass. Now having said that I believe that you would be better off to buy say the 5600 and an 18-200 mm lens Much more versatile and will last a beginner much longer before needing or wanting something else. I also think the cannon would be a good choice.

In my opinion it is not about the camera.................. When I get my best photos is when I have a vision of how I want the final photo to look and I am able to set up the camera to achieve my goals. When the camera no longer does what I want to do then it is time for a new camera! I also believe that you should spend as much as you can afford on your glass. Most important thing you must be able to do is have fun and enjoy what you are doing if you are not enjoying the situation move on the pictures will not be your best! To challenge my self to learn I like to find a photo I like then go try and get something similar by setting up the camera to do that. Sometimes that takes some reading and learning but that is what makes this all so much fun!

My answer would be to consider where you are going with your photography. Decide how much editing you are going to do then go look for a program that will meet your goals. There will always be a a learning curve. That is why I say choose what you may need in the future and then you will only have to learn one program. I have gone through several and now I am looking at doing the Adobe suite. Yes it is a monthly rental but very powerful programs so once again I will be learning new programs. The good part is there is no end to the people on you tube that are happy to show you for free no matter what program you are going to use. Hope this helps you.
