About 1/2 inch of my computer screen is missing from the left side. There is a white "stripe" where the screen should be. How do I get the full screen back? Thanks for your help in advance

Does the monitor have an "auto adjust" feature/button?

Disclaimer: I know nothing about building or repairing computers. With that being said, I recently upgraded to a new deskptop PC. My old desktop had a relatively new 1TB SSD hard drive. (Only a year old). This was the main drive running Windows 10 on my old desktop PC. Now I also have an 8 year old laptop running Window's 7. Would I be able to just replace the drive in the laptop with the new SSD drive. If I did, would it now be running Windows 10?

Your question is somewhat ambiguous. If you are wanting to replace the drive in the laptop with the desktop drive, no, it won't fit. Typical desktop drives are either 3.5 or 5.25 inches wide. Typical laptop drives are 2.5 inches wide. While this is how drives are usually described, these dimensions are not exact and actually refer to the size of the disc platter housed inside the enclosure. Many older desktop computers used an IDE interface, however, SSDs and newer devices use a SATA interface.

In short, you need to inspect the laptop and see if it's actually worth trying to make the switch. An 8 year old laptop may have memory and or video issues running Windows 10 as well.

COrona VIral Disease - COVID

Unfortunately, our government ignored this virus for over two months. As more people get tested, the number of those infected has been doubling every few days. The disease is the big problem, exacerbated by a government that is not helping protect the population. Inaction by the government has led to the hysteria and panic. For how things should have been handled, look at South Korea.

Yes, people do die from causes other than COVID-19, but that's nothing new. This is something new. It spreads easily, there is no treatment, and it is deadly. Making light of it will only lead to more deaths.
COrona VIral Disease - COVID br br Unfortunately,... (show quote)

Actually, the pandemic threat was raised as far back as 2013. Both presidents in office since then have been made aware of the potential pandemic threat, some took more action than others. To imply that the current administration is somehow responsible for the spread of COVID-19 is a bit of a leap. The previous administration took some action, however, in retrospect, not enough. The current administration probably didn't take action quickly enough. Regardless of what transpires going forward, the Donald Trump administration will be blamed for this. Right or wrong doesn't matter. It's all about perception and how the media pushes the agenda. In risk communications, the formula is P=R; Perception equals Reality.

When I lived and worked in Australia, I participated in their census. One of the questions was are you a citizen of Australia? If not, the next question was what country are you a citizen of. No one gave it a second thought. Here in the US, it is a major political talking point if you ask the citizenship of someone that's living in the country. Down under, no one seemed to care, it was just a demographic question. Kind of like there's no hyphenated nationalities like there is here. You were either Australian or you were from some other country. A good friend of mine was an Australian citizen but was from Canada. He was Australian, not Canadian-Australian.

Just bought an air hose for my compressor this morning that was on a "super saver" sale, and when I checked out, the register indicated it didn't qualify for the Veteran's discount.

3 combat tours in the Desert as a special operator. There are a few movies that bring back some bad memories but for the most part I can get through them. To my fellow veterans, thank you for signing that "blank check".

I have been told that Home Depot limits the military discount to $500 per year and it's not provided on all items. I have signed up for My Lowes, which is not a credit card, but more of a project card. As far as I know, there isn't a limit on the amount you can receive, but, Lowe's won't "stack" other discounts along with the military discount.

Took a couple pages to find a response that probably correctly diagnoses the problem given the limited information provided. No video, no BIOS beeps most likely indicates one of two areas to further investigate: the power supply (most likely) or the motherboard (less likely). If the system recently worked, a bad video cable or card is not likely a problem as the BIOS beep codes would still sound. A bad hard drive has nothing to do with the BIOS screen or the Company's startup splash screen being displayed. I have an older HP desktop that originated with Windows XP, moved to Windows 7, and is currently running Windows 10. I have had two Dell desktops that puked and died after just over a year. It's about quality control and not necessarily the brand.

Why is it Microsoft's responsibility to keep track of your BIOS version? Seems like that's something the user should be checking periodically.

A friend of mine bought one of these type battery packs (not this specific item) and after he got it home and read the instructions, it said ONLY charge via wall plug or USB port and NEVER leave the battery pack exposed to constant sunlight. The solar panel is for emergency charging only and it would take several days to recharge the battery pack under "optimum" conditions. That convinced me to not buy one.

A few weeks ago, my 2014 Mac slowed to a crawl. It now takes hours for updates. Just bought the Northrop book recommended here and it refused to download the practice images. I have the most recent update for the Mac installed. Any ideas for what may be causing the problem? P. S. I am not a computer person. I thought I’d try here before spending a lot of quality time at Apple.

Agree with the Apple tech support option. Critical to "older" mac computers is the version of OS your are running. As the computers get older and the OSs get newer and do more and more, the older computers have a hard time keeping up with the OS operating requirements. Some of the older Mac computer won't run the newer OS software simply because they don't have the CPU or GPU horsepower to do so. The Apple people can help with that.

During the Windows update, certain files that are in use are tagged for replacement/update after a reboot. Upon reboot, additional files may be tagged for the same reason, hence the second reboot. This doesn't always happen, it kind of depends on the complexity of the update/upgrade.

I too was in Normandy for the week of June 6th. While security on the 6th was quite high, I don't think it lessened the celebrations at any of the locations. Both President Trump and Macron gave very good speeches, full of praise and thanks and without political tone. It was awesome to be at the American Cemetery, one of about 12,000 attendees at that special event. The town of Sainte-Mère-Église was crazy fun, very festive. All in all, a wonderful week in a beautiful country. I will go back on D-Day again, just not on a 5 year anniversary when the pomp and circumstance is a bit over the top. I shot over 1,000 frames and still mulling through them.
