I find myself taking on endeavors where 1)every now and then you produce a result that amazes yourself ( that is really good and I did not know I could do that; 2) it is possible to keep getting better (or have the illusion you can keep getting better: 3) it involves a mixture of technological prowess and skill.; 4) it gets me outside where I might notice something beautiful.

So I like skiing and golf.... always more to buy and more to try to improve. Everynow and then I hit a shot even t he pros would be happy with. Ande there is the illusion i can get better if only I had better equipment which involves endless research and trying out of new things.

Same is true for sailing and climbing.

And the same is true for photography I think..

I am moving all my photos to an external RAID. Should I move the catalogue to the RAID as well or keep it on the main MAC that I use for photoediting? Or does it matter? Thanks as always?

I have a very dark dog. I am looking for suggestions for the best way to photograph him without using a flash. His coat is very black and it is hard to get any definition of his features. Any suggestions are appreciated.

A mask helps brighten things up.....

I’m planning to take a NIKON 400mm F2.8 prime, 70-200 mm F2.8 and 35 mm F1.4 for a trip to the Serengeti following the migration of the wildebeest herds. Cameras are D5, 850 and 500.

1. Should I also take a Sigma Sport 150-600 F 5-6.3 ? Some people said the aperture may not be enough?

2. Is there a different combo you’d suggest? Weight is an issue .....

Would appreciate some guidance.

I went recently. I took a D850 with a 70-200 lens... and a D500 with a 500mm PF lens. In my mind the c ombo was perfect. I also had a Leica Q for camp shots, people, landscape etc... It was really good that I did not have to change lenses....

I was in the same boat. I decided to get the D500 which will be my long distance and wildlife camera. It is small and the crop helps with the long distance shots.

Which iPhoto apps do you like and use for taking phots? I have tried ProCamera and Halide. Are there others? I think it is important to be able to shoot in Raw....

Thanks

I have been very happy with my Nikon 28-300 lens. It has an IQ of about 95% of my best lenses.
