I like "The Missing Manual". There are books on each software as well as each camera. It is an excellent learning tool as well as a reference when you want to try something new.

Just to let members know about the Castle Air Museum in central California. It is located in Atwater which is just off Highway 99. They currently have almost 90 aircraft on display and some some unknown number under restoration. Their web site is at

I have compared prints done by COSTCO and two professional labs. COSTCO prints were at least as good as the pro prints. They have their printers calibrated and adjusted, every year so if you calibrate your screen, you will get accurate colors. If you do not calibrate your screen, let them do any adjustment. It will be close or perfect.

Don't worry about being stuck with DNG files when ADOBE goes out of business. If that were to happen, lots of programers would write conversion software, if the software was not already been written. They always rush to fill a need. That is how people make a living.
Don't buy any thing you do not know how to use. Buy new lenses that fit a specific purpose/style of photography. Always keep a lens cover or shade on the lens. All tripods have a reversible screw to match your camera. You will learn YOUR needs as you learn. Every one's needs are unique.
I agree with Dr. Dan. I lived in Fairbanks for 2 1/2 years. The cruise route covers the southern pan handle. The state is so big that most of it is viewed only by dog sled or small aircraft. My suggestion is take the cruise route then fly north to Fairbanks, the take take the train to Denali N.P. Then continue by train, south to Anchorage. Then fly home.
For those who use a red dot sight, why does the red dot not show in the photo?
The system I use is simple. I import from the camera to a folder called import. Then I rename them with the subject and numerical sequence. Then move to the year folder with location sub folder.
At any point in the process I assign a Keyword. I use Keywords like Prospect, Edited, WIP, Printed, etc. to show editing and display status.
The Keywords can be assigned to suit your personal work style. This system works for me.
Do you really want to stack photos or sort by file name? What exactly are you trying to accomplish?
Although my cameras have GPS capability, I don't use it because of the battery drain. My normal routine is to rename my photos with the location. I also use my calendar to keep track of my general location each day. I do not think knowing my exact location is worth the battery drain unless the exact location is important. So far since digital cameras were invented, I have not wished I had an exact location for every photo.
I have been a photographer for 70 years and have not missed having GPS in my travel photography. If needed I would use my phone to record GPS and a photo of the location. haven't seen the need so far.
Why not use Lightroom Transform? It is much a similar solution.
I have hand held my bird camera shoots for hundreds of sessions with success. Hand held gives me more options. I shoot with a Sigma 150 to 600mm zoom. However, I am getting older and am finding it more difficult to shoot with the long lens with all the weight. I am now using a gimbal mount and tripod, which gives me much of the freedom of hand held but takes all the weight out of my hands. This allows me to freely follow the birds with no weight on me.
The procedure you used in Windows using Light Room is the exact procedure you should use with a MAC, assuming you worked within LR to start with.
CAMPOBELLO ISLAND. It is a US/Canada park which was a summer home for FDR.
