I am trying to learn to use the many editing features of Lightroom/Photoshop. So far, I have not been able to understand the initial process. I want to place my camera card in my computer and place a series of pictures in LightRoom/Photoshop. I would then like to edit each pic. If someone were able to offer a few simple pointers to get me started, I would really appreciate the help.
First you should copy them from your camera card to an internal hard drive or an external drive. Then Open LR > File > Import > browse to the location you copied the files to and select the folder or photo's you want to import.
Now you can start playing with editing. Google Lightroom tutorials...there are some really good ones for beginners out there.

This is a great way to get things setup right from the beginning. And Steve Perry is a UHH member.

Watch at least 20-minutes of the results of the google "getting started with lightroom training". The software cannot be learned by clicking around. Nor is LR intended to be learned by experimentation. A minimum of 20 minutes free training will save you hours of frustration.

You really do need to understand how the application works BEFORE you get started, this will save you from making many of the mistakes that people often make. Read up on it or watch videos, whichever you prefer. Steve Perry is good to follow, he also does ebooks on photographing wildlife. You will be working from within Lightroom to begin with, Photoshop may come later, depending upon your needs and your ability to learn.
An Adobe link:
https://helpx.adobe.com/lightroom-cc/get-started.html?promoid=4F569LNT&mv=otherYou'll also find a Help menu to Adobe from within the application. Here is a helpful Adobe link. Read up on the Library Module, there are five Modules, but you only need to concern yourself right now with the Library Module. Learn that and get it right and then move on to the Develop Module. Here is the User Guide link:
https://helpx.adobe.com/lightroom-classic/user-guide.html#. Be sure you are looking at information for Lightroom Classic CC for desktop use.
You can also take a look at my LR website at viathelens.net, it explains the basics of LR.

Before you play with Lightroom or try to wing it basically on your own, I would advise you to stop. You can make such a mess of your catalog that it will be a job to straighten out. Take a course on line in Lightroom so you know what you are doing. The course I took is no longer available, look at Tim Gray, Creative Live, the Lightroom Queen. Get recommendations from people here. Doing it right the first time will be much easier than try to fix mistakes.

There are tutorials built into your LightRoom app. Look to the top of your opening page. I should say, help or tutorials, or something like that. Start with the first one, it starts very basic, and then moves forward.
Also, go to google, and type this. Tutorials for Lightroom, what will come up is about 5000 videos on using Lightroom. Good luck and keep on shooting until the end.
Anthony Morgantown Utube very simple videos you will learn very quickly

YouTube has a lot of videos that relate to your question.
Lynda free tutorials via local library is the best in my opinion
