Seattle's Museum of Flight has a restoration center, where they turn piles of scrap metal back into real (sometimes flyable) airplanes. I toured the Center Saturday and took a few pix.

Their biggest current project is the de Havilland Comet 4, which flew for British Overseas Airways Corp. (BOAC) and other airlines.

Very nice. Restoring a plane is quite an undertaking, especially if you expect it to fly.

Where is the restoration center? I have a daughter in Seattle who I visit periodically and this would be a good stop. I’ve been to the museum several times, most recently in June. I also went to Paul Allen’s Flying Heritage and Combat Armor Museum while there. Both are definitely worth the trip!

It's at the Paine Field airport, where Boeing's largest assembly plant is located (where they build the really big planes - 747, 767, 777 & 787). You can also tour the assembly plant (no cameras allowed); Google Boeing plant tours. Paul Allen's collection is at the same airfield.

Nice set and the Comet has always been a favorite. Short lived because of structural weakness.
