I too switched from a full frame Cannon 5DIV with several heavy lenses to the Sony RX10IV and have not looked back. It looks and feels like a slightly smaller DSLR which I like. However, I can now instantly zoom in and out from 24 - 600mm without worrying about changing lenses and possibly missing a shot. Note that I no longer create large prints from my Sony RX10IV. Although it is possible in the right conditions, I think you will get better quality prints from the full frame cameras. I only use it for posting on the internet and family photo books. If that is what you will be doing, the Sony RX10IV is an excellent choice.

I went to Iceland 2 years ago with my Canon 5D IV and two high end lenses. Another person on our trip had the Sony rx10iv. She was getting shots that I was missing because I was constantly changing lenses to get the right shot. After the trip we shared photos and the quality of her photos, at least on the computer, were every bit as good as mine. I am sure mine were better if we compared the photos after they were enlarged but neither of us planned to do that. That got me to reconsider my photography needs as I am not a professional photographer and only use the camera for traveling. So, I made the leap and sold all my Canon gear and purchased the Sony rx10iv. I used it all last year on 5 different trips through Europe and Canada and was very glad I made the switch! No more backpack filled with camera gear. I also like that the size of the RX10IV body is similar to the size of my Canon 5DIV so it felt good in my hands. I would definitely recommend making the switch to the Sony RX10IV or one of the similar bridge cameras. I have a friend that has the Panasonic bridge camera and is happy with that.
Good luck and msg me if you have any specific questions about the camera.

Hi everyone, I recently sold all my Canon bodies and lenses to downsize to a single travel camera. I purchased the Sony Cyber-Shot RX10 IV as I still wanted some control over my photography. However, the online instruction manual is 593 pages. There seems to be many You tube videos on the camera. I recall seeing some of you posting suggestions of the best YouTube videos you have found most helpful. I am asking for any guidance on the best online videos (You tube or others) to help me get started in the most efficient way. I will be using the camera for general travel photography. I will occasionally be shooting some wildlife but it won't be my primary subject. I just want to get the basic settings so I can get familiar with the camera and be able to start using some of the great features it has to offer. Any guidance would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in Advance.

Well, it is clear that there are several points of view on this subject and each has its merits. For me, pictures are worth a thousand words and Gene, 11Bravo and Alphanso49UK have certainly made a very good case for the Sony RX10 IV and the Panasonic FZ1000V1. Also, I have been carrying about 10lbs of camera gear with my Canon 5DIV, 24-105 lens and 100 - 400 cannon lenses but I am getting too old to carry all that weight and have to change lenses to hopefully get the shot. I know I could be giving up the power of the 5DIV but since I am not planning to print large photos to hang on the wall, I think it is worth it. I love the feel of 5DIV body and from what I have seen from the 3 bridge cameras I mentioned in my original post, they look and feel similar. I did not consider anything smaller as I don't need it to fit in my pocket and I think it would be harder to capture BIF and wildlife photos. I also appreciate all the comments and technical links you all sent making a case for each camera and in some cases a few other cameras. So, again, thank you all for all the great photos, technical links and personal experiences you provided me. My next step is to go to my local camera shop and see if they have any of the 3 bridge cameras so I can hold them and see which feels best for me. Then I will rent each and make my final decision. Thanks again!

Wow, UHH'ers did not disappoint again with recommendations, links, photos and knowledge. This is going to be a difficult decision. I will definitely rent the three bridge cameras I mentioned in my original post. However, based on my planned use which is more travel photos and some wildlife for social media and photo books, I am leaning toward the Sony for it's technology, reach, and speed advantages. I will rent the SonyRX10 IV, Panasonic Lumix FZ1000II and Leica and make my final decision. After testing, I will wait a month or two to see if any of the three come out with newer models and then make my final decision. Again, thank you all for sharing your knowledge and helping me make my final decision.

I searched the forums and could not find posts on Bridge cameras for several years. I am looking to purchase a new bridge camera (cost is not a concern). I will be using it mostly for travel but do want to be able to shoot in raw and occasionally some wildlife so I would like it to have a long reach. I would also prefer a large sensor with high megapixel count. I am currently considering the The Sony Cyber-shot DSC RX10 IV, Panasonic Lumix FZ 1000 II, and the Leica V-Lux 5 but open to others. I am also not concerned about the weight as it would still be much lighter than my current Cannon 5D IV with several heavy lenses which I will most likely sell if I like the results of the bridge camera. I plan to rent some bridge cameras based on your suggestions and compare the results to my 5DIV to see if I can get to just a bridge camera for my photography needs. Note, I am an experienced, non professional photographer. I don't sell my photos and mostly use the photos to create Photo books and share online with family and friends. I value the recommendations from the UHH community. Thanks in advance for any recommendations you have.

Hi Gene51, is the PC you just purchased a home built PC? I did not catch the brand name. I am also interested in purchasing a new PC and what you purchased sounds exactly like what I have been researcing. However, the big brand names like Dell and HP will run you closer to $3k for that setup from what I have seen.
P.S. I was born in St. Josephs hospital in Yonkers, NY in 1952. Not sure if it is still there.

Thank you all for all the excellent information on this subject. I did not know about “Portfolio” so since I pay the monthly fee for Creative Cloud, I will see if that fits my needs. Smugmug also looks appealing. Thank you again!

I checked the forum on this topic and many posts are old. I just want to create a website (I know I have to pay for the domain name) but would prefer not to pay a monthly / yearly fee to set it up and use it to store and share photos. I might consider selling photos in the future so it would need that capability. I already use sites like Shutterfly, Amazon, google and others for cloud storage but would prefer to set up my own website and then eventually grow it if I decide to sell photos ( I am willing to pay the monthly fee if I decide to sell photos down the road). Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Check out this link for Phone Skope: https://www.phoneskope.com/?gclid=CjwKCAjwssD0BRBIEiwA-JP5rDt8DWBznghFcPZQpqwZvWWN5rYyb7ODuU18e6BAoNjyYdt-qoMrxBoCoMIQAvD_BwE

They have adapters for mobile phones to connect to binoculars, telescopes, etc. I saw them used and they were amazingly easy to use and the results were amazing.

I would also suggest a boat ride on the James River to get good shots of Bald Eagles, Osprey and various other birds if you interested in birding. The Eagle population has soared (pun intended) over the past 10 years along the river.

Also a visit to Jamestown, Yorktown and Williamsburg if you are interested in Revolutionary and Civil war history. They are about 45 minutes from Richmond.

Richmond also has many great restaurants and micro breweries.

Enjoy your time there!

Hi Viewmaster, see my earlier post with the two photos attached. One shot at 5,000 ISO and the other at 6,500 ISO. See if that amount of noise is acceptable to you. They were both shot with 5D4 and canon 100-400 II f/4.5-5.6 lens at almost 200 yards away and cropped heavily.
