My wife and I are going to Nova Scotia first of August. I am taking my Nikon 5600. And probably a 55-200 Nikon lens. I have others I could choose from 18-400 Tamron, 14 mm Nikon, 50mm 1.8 Nikon, 40mm macro. I don't want to carry a lot. Also what SD cards to you recommend. I only shoot JPEG (no lectures please).
Thanks for your advice.
John
PS any ideas for a small camera case.

I just returned from a trip through the Canadian Maritimes. Since it was a vacation with my wife I took mt SONY RX100M7 with a 24-200 lens. A few times I wished I had a longer reach but most of the shots were at the wide end. I am a wildlife shooter and like long lenses but the SONY was great and the IQ is excellent.

Look at Lens Coat collapsible hood for 200-500mm. Packs flat and protects gear in your camera bag.

This might sound like a stupid question cause it is. I was experimenting shot raw with my new d850. I have switched back to jpeg again. I want shot some her shots but that line in grayed out in the menu selection. I must have something else changed. I could keep trying things to figure it out or I ask here. Help.

Read the manual. Either you are using a crop format lens on a full frame body or you has set the image size to crop.

Nikon is constant aperture for full zoom range. That was the deciding factor for me.

On more days than not, I jump in the car with my camera and 150-600mm lens and take a similar tour around my town. I stop at a salt panne, drive a mile to a path I walk through a marsh, then over to a seaside cliff and walk a beach. Back in the car, to a local park fed by a brackish creek, then over to a yacht club for a nesting eagle.
That's 10 short trips in and out of the car.

Where can I safely and quickly put my camera with the lens attached that will keep it reasonably save while a travel from stop to stop?

I use styrofoam form from packing box, that keeps it from rolling, but doesn't really provide enough support over the length of the lens. I thought about a box of dried beans, but that would be full of dust. Perhaps a box of washed pebbles would provide a base.

Yes, it it's not a quick stop, I keep a oversized backpack/camera back in the trunk, but's unlikely to get in there for a 2 minute dirve.

Anyone have have a gadget that will hold the camera and lens in the car?

Look at the LensCoat adjustable bag. Can use vertically strapped to front seat or horizontally on floor or rear seat.

I think it depends on who refurbishes the lens as to who offers the warranty on it. Third parties as well as Nikon refurbish lenses. If you bought a Nikon refurbished lens the Nikon would offer the warranty and you would get paperwork with the lens stating the warranty comes from Nikon. If buying a refurbished item go directly to Nikon or B&H, Adorama and look for Nikon factory refurbished. Anything Renewed would make me suspicious

The Nikon refurbished guarantee is 90 days. I bot a refurbed 24-120 from Nikon. Looks brand new, saved$$.

I think your source got mixed up, DC-3 is a two engine and DC-4 a 4 engine, a wing would be much two different to do that.

I know when I was in Nam "Air America" (open secret = Air CIA) had one damaged at a remote dirt strip and there was an OLD wrecked DC-2 at the field. They used a wing off it to repair the DC-3 so they could fly it out to the base near my unit where they had a good supply of trashed DC-3s and C-47s to get the correct wing from. For a while we were joking that the CIA had the only DC-2 1/2 in the world.

Then we found out that the same thing happened in WW II to a Chinese DC-3, and they have photos of that one: http://www.douglasdc3.com/dc2half/dc2half.htm

You would be hard pressed to find any references to the Nam incident because according to Air America/CIA it never happened of course officially Air America didn't belong to the CIA either. It took a long time for the CIA to sorta admit they owned Air America. A lot of their planes we saw at the base were painted flat black with their markings and tail # in fairly small glossy black. Also even though production ceased in 1942 for the DC-3 (I have read that some were assembled from parts in 1950) and the C-47 production ended in 1945 Air America constantly had what appeared to be new planes to replace loses. (I was in Nam 66-69.) One rumor was they were Soviet built licensed copies of DC-3s which officially were built until well into the 50's (but who knows what they were doing in secret) and the CIA - oops I mean Air America - was buying them through third parties.

C-47 wings bolted on for ease of transport in ships. Only engine controls were in the wing. All fuel tanks were in the fuselage.

I don't know about that. The strongest "purchase point" is the camera body.

Not true! Too much lens can distort the camera body. Safer and better balance if sling is attached to the big lens.
