Thanks for the info. I also use the viewfinder for framing, etc., but now due to a retina issue in my right (dominant) eye, I am having trouble with focus / depth of field - mostly during macro shots. The shot often looks good (to me) on the camera's display, but the computer monitor would reveal the focus a bit off, etc, too late to re-take the shot. BTW, I am using Corel PSP X3.

Haven't had too much trouble with portraits, though, as I use the camera's auto focus centered on the eyes, but it would still be nice to see the image on the laptop screen to check for details while the shot can still be easily retaken.

Thanks again!

HI, does anyone know how to tether a Nikon D5100 to a computer? I would like to be able to see the shot on my monitor before pulling the trigger! Thanks in advance.

I have been using the self timer method with live view on my D5100.

This has to be a joke. No decent artist / photographer in their right mind would even use up their memory space for a photo such as this, unless they were going to photoshop someone or something into the picture. Tell me it ain't so!!!!

thanks everyone for the feedback! the pictures that I want to enlarge are 2000 X 3008, so using the formula above, without resizing, would be around 125 dpi. I will probably resize them to somewhere between 200 and 300 dpi based on your feedback.

Thanks again, Danny

Hello everyone,

I have some pics that were shot with a lower mp camera some time ago, and would like to print in 16x24 size. The original files are around 2.5 mbytes. For larger prints, what dpi should they be resized to? 200? 300?

Thanks!

I verbally said "oh, that's pretty!!" when I first saw the picture. Great job!

Thanks for the info. My wife's hair is the most difficult, as it is shiny silver grey, and does not lay flat on her head, so there is a lot of hair with background showing through. I'll check out the software!

I have just started trying to use green screen / backdrop technique, and am having trouble getting my subject's hair lines cleanly when eliminating the green screen background. Any tips would be appreciated. I'm using Corel Paintshop Pro X3. Thanks!

I've been doing a little experimenting the past few days, shooting a few shots in RAW and JPG, with all the proper setting in my camera. Both came out similar, but after conversion to JPG, the ones starting as RAW files had visibly more details and somewhat larger files. It appears that even if they ultimately end up as JPG (if you choose not to use TIF), it seems the details are clearer. I'm going to continue testing, of course!!

Marco, you are correct. You never know when that snapshot suddenly becomes priceless. I'm going to set my camera to RAW and leave it there - memory is so cheap now, why not. I always do some sort of post processing anyhow, so there's really no excuse NOT to use RAW all the time, at least for me, as I'm always looking for that one or two shots that stand out, even when simply shooting "snapshots" Thanks!

Also, think ahead. It may not seem like you want or need RAW quality now, but what about further on down the road when your eye is trained enough to see the difference and you wish you had shot in RAW?[/quote]

Great comment - that is what I did. Now I have SEVERAL older shots that I wished a thousand times would have been shot in RAW, but now after post processing, they are smaller in size, and the details lost DO show up in prints over 11 X14. I've been converted, and unless I absolutely know it's just going to be a "snapshot", it will be shot in RAW, just in case it turns out to be a wallhanger instead!
