In my opinion, camera technology is key for the smart phone manufacturers to survive. Take away the camera features and there isn't meaningful value for a 2000.00 phone over a 200.00 phone. Yes, some speed features and memory but that does not justify a 1800.00 price difference. Their business model depends on consumers wanting continuous improvement and the camera is the sweet spot.

Thanks for posting..... definitely some things to consider. I'll admit that my picture filing system needs some work including back up capabilities. Also need to work on pp. Looking forward to that for 22. I hope you and all have a wonderful holiday season.

Can the use of either type of filter help reduce unwanted reflection or glare? Similar to sunglasses was mentioned as a perspective on the effect. I am curious if using these types of filters will help with the glare making the image richer.

I also appreciate this conversation - it is very insightful to a some pictures I took earlier in the summer. I was taking pictures of a marching band practice from the stands and it was a really bright day and they were on artificial turf - that day was the only opportunity I had to be there, so I had to work with it and try my best. I was using a small aperture f8- 11, and still there was too much sun. Looking back it sounds like a neutral density would have improved the situation. Can someone again clarify where this filter is used compared to a polarizing filter. Thank you in advance.

GAS relief has made me more active. I recently sold 2 DSLRs and my lens collection and purchased a mirrorless with a nice lens. I was previously spending more time thinking about which camera to use for the day instead of using a camera. Now with one camera and one lens I feel relieved from my GAS and am enjoying taking pictures. Okay, a little obsessive but it worked.

I currently have a Canon 6D and 7DII. Both cameras are great for me and I love using them. I use the 7DII for my kids sports and shows. I most often have a 70-200 lens with that camera. The 6D I use for most everything else. I used to keep a 24-105 on the 6D, but I've found myself using the 50 mm/1.8. The problem is both cameras are large and I don't carry them as much as I did when I had a SL1. I'm debating getting a used SL1 (I also have a 24 pancake) to carry for general use, or I'm also thinking about going with a mirrorless. The advantage of the SL1 is that I'm really comfortable with Canon menus and have the lens' already.....and it will be easier to disguise it to my wife vs. her figuring out I've bought a third camera! Or I'm thinking about venturing into the world of mirrorless. Anyone else faced with the dilemma of wanting a easy to carry camera?

Thanks for sharing the web site - a lot of good information. I've decided to keep the 24 mm pancake lens on the camera for now for general use and to improve my skills, and to hold on to my 55-250 stm for track photos. Once I get better with photography then I'll figure out the best lens and save for an L lens.

Thank you for your reply Any insight on the 17-85? It's currently on sale for 299. Why would it be priced so much lower than the 15-85?

I'm new to this forum and looking for some feedback on a general walk around lens for a 7D ii. I'm looking at the cannon 18-135 stm and the 24-105 stm. The 18-135 looks like the kit lens but the 24-105 stm has some good reviews. I'm looking to use the lens for general photography and outside track and field. Both lens are in the right price point for me right now. Thanks for your help!
