Will this apply to the Mirrorless camera as well? because the DSLR is on the way out now, and it's not because of the smartphone.... it's because of the mirrorless.....
... I have a phone that takes great pictures, why do I need to buy a camera...

Yea, mirrorless also.
Really doesn't mean a thing to me. Won't have a phone, have enough of both of the other two types and film as well. A lifetime supply of tools I enjoy.

I'll still shoot for a<nother> DSLR, even though my phone takes great pictures.

Will the mass market for cameras eventually disappear? Probably that is already happening. Change is enviable. I do believe that mirrorless cameras will be around for a while yet. What are likely to dissappear are the single lens carry around cameras. Companies like Canon,Nikon, Sony and others would not be investing in the development of new cameras if the did not see a future further out than three or four years. That being said, that doesn't mean that the number of companies in the camera making business will not shrink even more.

DSLRs are already being killed off. It will take probably less than 3 years the way some are buying the DSLRs that are on the store shelves. But this is hardly a surprise. Once parts become more available for mirrorless and the shelves are empty of DSLRs, we will see what happens. I seriously doubt cameras are totally going away no matter how good smartphones get. There are things that smartphones will never be able to do even in the near future.

It will slow down.
Most people who use cell phone camera won't be interested in also purchasing a dedicated camera (They have a camera...). There will be some may get interested in photography enough to purchase one. The cell phone is the "Instamatic" of the future. Dedicated photographers will continue to purchase dedicated cameras. Some when the new models come out (ooh, ooh, gotta have that), others when their present camera breaks or no longer meets their needs.

It all depends on cell phones not meeting the needs of the "photographer".
That's why I will always have a dedicated camera.
(If I say DSLR implying a dedicated camera, 500 people will let me know that MILCs are taking over and DSLRs are going away.
I refuse to type "DSLR, SLR, MILC" to keep everybody "happy".)
You can be a phoneographer or a photographer. I'll always be the latter, one way or another.
How do you kill something that is already deceased?

With a stake? And bury facedown at a crossroads? Some things just won't die. Kinda like your commentary!

I'm 10/90.
(Haha, I'll bet phoneographer turns into a derogatory term for some.
I just have two types of cameras....)
When the new models ended, DSLRs passed into legend. And mirrors became myth. And by 2023 only those with the longest beards could remember a time when photography was limited by mirrors.

But I'm not growing a beard.
